Not as Jiu Jitsuey as I would have liked. But it’s been pointed out to me that I wouldn’t think a Street Fighter was Brazilian Jiu Jitsu enough unless they could hold you down for 99 seconds and make the timer run down, ha ha.

Confirmed on Capcom’s Japanese website to be Sean’s older sister (姉), and practicing the family style of Matsuda Jiu Jitsu.

Presumably it was taught to her by her Japanese grandfather, as it was canon he was teaching Sean Jiu Jitsu.

Update: She has been officially announced now.

Just when I thought today couldn’t get any better for grapplers after Zangief was announced, Famitsu leaked pictures of a new character Laura, who appears to be doing at least SOME Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

I called it that she would be BJJ when I first heard the rumor a while back that she would be from Brazil, but I won’t be 100% convinced till I see her for sure NOT doing Capoeira. Call me paranoid but she reminds me a little too much of Christie from Tekken.

If you believe the rumors that have been right so far, this leaves only 2 characters to be announced to fill out the SFV launch roster. 1 More “Classic Character”, and one more brand new character named “Zen” from India (who I predict will have stretchy arms, replacing Dhalsim in the cast).

Look for the official announcement, details, and video around October 8-12, while Capcom is at the Brazil Game Show, the pattern so far has been to release characters at events in their native country. [Read more…]

For the record, there have been a few other character announcements for SF5 that I have not covered them here because I don’t consider them “newsworthy” (it’s a no-brainer that Ken is in). Getting to see R.Mika again however, is pretty unexpected after such a long time!

It looks like now instead of having a huge wrestling ring appear to jump off of (Alpha3) she simply has a tag team partner that comes in for certain moves. This is a nice way to continue her tradition of dragging corny and unorthodox wrestling elements into a street fight, while also fitting into the game better in my opinion. The wrestling ring was hillarious but it really worked better as a cartoony hand-drawn sprite. In 3d it would be a little weird.

 

 

 

Not many details are known yet about the new Brazilian fighter Necalli who was just revealed. Here is the footage:
