Group: streetfighter Message: 4257 From: Darrick Chen Date: 12/2/1999
Subject: My deepest apologies.
To all members of this mailing list, and especially to my players.

I just wanted to extend my deepest heartfelt apologies for the way I have
conducted my online campaign (or lack thereof).

Quite frankly there is no excuse for the noncommunication that has
transpired between September and now. Before this semester started, I was
ready to fire, get the campaign going to full force.

But life rarely ever pans out the way you wish. AS it was I had a full class
load, work ,adn other resposibilities here on Campus. Also considering the
fact that most of my players exist in very different time zones, scheduling
the game wa pretty tough. AS it was I was only able to schedule one session
this entire semester and due to the fact that my school's server decided to
cut out on me, it pretty much went bust.

So please forgive this wayward storyteller. I was hoping to enhance the
sessions and campaign this semester, but now it's December and fianls are
already looming over my head. I wanted to provide a fun game but it just
didn't work out.

New Legends is not dead. Depending on how my players (if they haven't left
this list by now) feel. I would like to take another shot at it next
semester. But I don't want to promise anything. Steve has expressed a desire
to run a game in the egroups chatroom, and I wish him godspeed. Whoeve palys
with him as gamemaster is in good hands.

For now, I am going to try and see what I can salvage out of my efforts. For
what it's worth, I'm truly sorry.

Darrick Chen

Acutally I havent seen that one. I _did_ see a Chun Li alpha and Chun Li

I'd love to do it on a weekday, but half the time I don't get home from
work 'till 8, which means bedtime at 10. Hardly enough time to play a
good round of Unreal Tournament, let alone an RPG. :p

What! One butt whomping wasn't enough. Now you want to take on the guy

Godzilla sent me that one (you may know him as Chris Peacock on the Thrash
list). It took him three tries too. That's why I wasn't sure that it
would go through without some fancy fingerwork on my part.

Mr. Military challenges El Sid

Mr. military sat at his large desk, looking over the papers that meant
nothing to him. He was angry at himself. Very angry, to have been beaten by
that big-hatted, ridiculous talking islander. He rolled his eyes. Lucky, he
had been lucky.
The last piece of paper was the fighters list from the local street fight
coming up... hmmmm.
One more fight to loosen up, then that straw-wearing clown would get his.
Mr. Military was gonna bring him through a little basic training, all right.
But first thing was first. Mr. Military picked up the phone. "I want a
fight with this El Sid character."

random order. This was the last new message (I got your second message

IC: Well, there's usualy an odd vibe from someone involved in the circut.
Of course, I do know a lot of fighters, if I see one talking to a shady
character in a back table, I'll aproach said shady character.

Still if my Street Fighter sense isn't tingeling, then I'll wait for a bar
brawl to start (if one doesn't start in 15 minutes, I'll start one). This
way, if I do well, they'll come to me.

can this be moved off-list? We get a lot of daily traffic as is and I'd
rather not clutter it more than necessary. The game should only be
mailed to the individuals involved, IMO.

post the turns on the mailing list... sorta like the friendly fights. Do you
think we should take away all campaigns and tournament fights and hold them
elsewhere?

that depends on how many people are going to be involved, and how much
daily posting will be going on. If I'm in the minority I won't
complain. I just don't want Mike to have to step in and tell us to clam
up because we're exceeding our daily post restrictions again.

well, I plan to make 1 turn per day... that's it, one turn, not per player,

Each player may respond with a letter, so that looks like 5 or 6 letters

LOL I'm not going to mail bomb you, dude! Geeze don't be afraid of me I'm a
nice guy I swear! Anyway Whisper now has a new respect for Danielle and will
probably try to rematch with a new tactic. I thought this might happen- if
you notice Whisper's words were quite cautious as to the outcome of their
bout. Thanks for posting Judo though I hadn't seen it before, and no it
doesn't seem too unbalancing a style at all.

Hi guys,

Man, I go away for a couple of days and come back to 300 messages. Which is
cool. But yes, we have once again gone over our daily limit.

So please, Im asking really nicely, stop with the one sentence posts. There
really isnt a need for 'I agree' or 'mmmm, Chun Li' (I prefer Cammy myself
;)

As for the online tournaments, and campaigns. I personally have no problem
with it. As long as you dont get carried away with a million messages a
day. But this is everyone elses list. If you want to voice your opinion,
send me an email off list.

Oh, and for the love of God people, snip the useless parts of messages...

Thanks :)

Oh, Rinaldo, Adam accepts the challenge, and J. Scott Pittman, Im almost
done the history, havent had much time and will send it to you this weekend.
I swear. :)

Thanks guys.

My response? Hey, first of all, it's just a game...BUT falling into the
same predictable patterns is not the hallmark of a great fighter, let alone
not very thrilling for the crowds. Sure the fans know what to look for but
if that's all they see, then they're not going to be too impressed. A
little variation on the theme is a really good thing. And, anyway, there is
a lot more to Snake Kung Fu than those three maneuvers. Last I understood
it, it takes years of training to even get anywhere near the level of
adequacy that it takes to even meet the prerequisites to begin to train in
the specialized style of Snake Kung Fu.

Nah...I just think it was a shout out to all the MK fans out there by White
Wolf (even though I'll probably get blasted for blasphemy). When the
original was released, I think Sub-Zero happened to be the most famous
character in the game. Then again, it would be a little cool to see someone
in the game actually use an Ice Blast. Hell, Acid Breath would be nifty...

Hey, I did my time in that particular style as well. I'll agree with you
about that in the video game...after all, it is difficult to emulate the
real thing with only six buttons and eight directions to go with. But then
again, book or vid, there's no possible way to truly emulate a real, in
life, martial art style. Except maybe for Tae Kwon Do. Grr...:)

Funny. I remember seeing those old strategy guides, too. I definitely
recall seeing Bison's style listed as "Ler Drit", and to reiterate what
Steve was stating, Vega did practice Savate, though only in the kicks.
Watch his regular attacks in the game from WAY back in SFII: Champion
Edition until SSFII and you'll see that even though he still has the jumping
kick attacks he always did, the animations changed while he was standing.
He didn't have any standing kicks in CE, but in SSFII, he did. They even
got the style of the kicks a little accurate.

Subject: Re: More house rules
Players want the advantages. They hate it when the opponents have the
advantage as well. It's the same phenomenon as why tornadoes are attracted
to trailer parks. Besides, seeing as Musical Accompaniment comes from an
external source, not an internal one, if a player can eliminate his
opponent's advantage, no matter how small, he'll do it.

Subject: Re: More house rules
Sure, players and NPC's can die in my game. It's happened a couple of
times. No matter what, lethal or no, I had to enforce the idea on my
players that guns and the people that use them kill other people. It got
ridiculous when I had one of my players rush the bad guys with uzis, even
though there was one of him and six of them. In other words, it was a
common sense issue. Besides, bullets hurt. A lot.

Subject: A tactic favor and some points to explain.
When you challenge someone, please if you want change your current tactic
make it in the same time of Challenge mail, because I read my mails and when I
see a challenge I try to make the fights faster, and when you acept a challenge
if you want change tactics please let me known.

Now I will try my better english to explain the rules: I make this
tournament similar a great movie "Blood Sport"- The first movie

1- This a eliminatory system- You win and go ahead in tournament you lose sorry
but you´re out.
2- Exist 32 fighters in tournament I want at last 16 fighters from people at
this moment I have 13 fighters, many people say to me: " I send a fighter
soon"...
but I don´t start because that don´t send their fighters yet.
3- About time limit: I make stages for this tournament:

* Start the tournament with 32 figthers so I make a random select one fighter
from oriental group will fight with another one from ocidental group in this
stage will happen 16 fights and only 16 fighters will continue in tournament,
for a make it more faster in this stage I use 10 rounds (Moves), I called this
stage Selective fights.
* Now I have 16 fighters now I make random select again but now I don´t use
groups anymore, I will use 10 rounds and this stage still called Selective
fights.
* With 8 fighters the things change is random select but I will use 20 rounds
and this Stage is quarter finals.
* Now with 4 fighters is a random select the semi finals and 20 rounds will be
used.
* Final 2 fighters no timelimit.

Exp points fighters will receive exp points in the tournament.
If not ask to much a question for the fighters: "Why you enter in this
tournament?"

I´m ready and waiting.

Geez Danielle, the boys just can't seem to stay away from you (the shoes,
gotta be the shoes). Gokiwa just got done sending his new tactics to
Rinaldo so he could challenge you.

heh. that was my biggest complaint. The guy had Dim Mak, Rekka Ken,
and a few more of the real biggies for Kung Fu, and yet I never saw him
do anything 'cept Power Uppercuts and Deflecting Punches.

Plus he had 9 Honor, so I tend to be a little more strict on the
high-honor folks. Just like how in Vampire, if you have 9 Humanity, you
have to make conscience rolls every time you have impure thoughts about
Chun Li, let alone kill someone.

My response? Hey, first of all, it's just a game...BUT falling into the

same predictable patterns is not the hallmark of a great fighter, let
alone
not very thrilling for the crowds. Sure the fans know what to look for
but
if that's all they see, then they're not going to be too impressed. A
little variation on the theme is a really good thing. And, anyway,
there is
a lot more to Snake Kung Fu than those three maneuvers. Last I
understood
it, it takes years of training to even get anywhere near the level of
adequacy that it takes to even meet the prerequisites to begin to train
in
the specialized style of Snake Kung Fu.
