well, yea, a lot of fighters take their records very seriously. Path of
Glory, Path of Honor, all that jazz. there's at least one anecdote in
the Players' Guide about a team challenging a lower-ranked team just so
they could add a few cheap wins to their record. (Chimu Nihon vs. the
Howling Mongol Horde).

As an interesting to note to all this talk about rankings...
The street fighters them selves do keep track of rankings them selves.

This is shown in Street fighter 3
Third strike. I was playing ryu and got all the way to ken.

There conversation goes something like this.

Ken: It always comes down to this doesnt it.
(alot of other talk)
Ken: Ready for a beating.
Ryu: Who was the better win ratio.

So rankings are taken into account by the Sfers them selves as well.

True, but Zangief and T. Hawk don't take less damage from any hits,
despite having a stamina of seven and six respectively.

"Ernest goes to Camp Mriganka."

I've been a GM so long that I can hardly remeber any of the stuff I've
made
an NPC do. Your point about Bison, does remind me of a time where we
were
searching around Mriganka <I don't ever remeber WHY!> and at some point,
I
botched a Drive roll, and turned a steam roller on that went about it's
merry way, smashing down walls. Much later on, when the team finnaly got
surrounded and bison confonts them in the lower levels, the entire room
started to Shake, and finnaly BOOM! The steamroller busted thru a wall
and
Ran over the opposition.!

Good question. Personaly, I'd do both, with the elemental being rarer.
Let's take a look at DC for some examples.

Poison Ivy: Hybrid (at least according to the movie)

Swamp Thing: Both

Woodrue (I _think_ that's his name): Well, he's an alien, but I'd make him
a hybrid.

Now let's go to the Tick

El Seed: Hybrid (and so are his busy bees)

And Finaly Marvel

Man-Thing: Hybrid

no, 'coz then anyone with Block-to-whatever combos would have too much
of an advantage on round 1.

besides, insight requires you to watch someone fighting for 3 rounds to
make a roll, which you can't do prior to a fight.

Hey, here's an idea. Start your tactics at round zero instead of round
one. This'll allow you to use your insight or intimidation (although
it'd
be more work to include insight) before the fight. In fact, you could
probably block if you didn't have either of those skills.

Oh, you mean Gokiwa, he'll accept anything.

it still won't hurt.

of course, nobody ever fights in the ring anymore. So maybe all those
injuries come from the idiots bodyslamming each other on concrete.

where? I'd like to read that rule for myself... what does it say about
blocking maneuvers or maneuvers that dont cause damage as part of a combo

The EWA came to my high school a few years back, and I had a front row
seat. After the event was over security had to chase a bunch of kids
out of the ring. These kids were, prior to being chased off, leaping a
good five or six feet in the air by just bouncing. The rings are more
solid than a trampoline, sure, but they are still spring-reinforced with
a lot of "give".

Not exactly... while it is true that they are nto as solid as a regular
ring for like Karate or Boxing, they are still sold enough for it to
hurt.. and bad... To disprove your statement, look at how they walk on
it... if it was a trampoline, that would not be possible...

Move 2: Howard Ng make a Elbow smash for his combo but Mr.Military Back
flip kick is more faster Howard Ng receives: 1 point of damage and
Mr.Military don´t stop Howard Ng Elbow smash and receive: 2 points of
damage.

If Mr. Military was successful in his Backflip Kick, he would have flipped
two hexes backwards from the position of being in the adjacent hex of his
opponent. Therefore, there would be two empty spaces between him and his
opponent (the cool thing about backflip kick, which is why I chose it for Mr
Military). Ok, so an Elbow Smash has a move of 1. Howard should not have
been able to reach Mr. Military to cause him this damage.

Subject: Re: Streetfighter LARP
I don't know if Howard was exaggerating for comic effect, but almost
every convention I'd been to resulted in the Vampire LARPers getting in
trouble for *something*; making noise in the middle of the night in
non-game areas, picking locks to get on the hotel roof, setting fires in
wastepaper baskets, whatever. Not to mention they were wearing (most of
the time bad) costumes that no "real" vampire would wear (I find it hard
to believe that all vampires resemble depressed Goths in appearance or
dress like Dracula) and were in character all the time, even out of
game, to the point where it got annoying.

Never been to a convention. Don't know. Is it really that bad, though?
I
think I read in an article on your webpage about "lilting voices with
waggling fingers going you are MINE PU-ny MOR-tal", or some such like
that.
Just sounds like really bad overacting to me. I just like to play 'em
as
close to "real" people as possible. It's kinda hard to be "real" people

when you're a Giovanni Necromancer who's specialties is the walking
dead.

(knockdown)

Again, there is a mistake here. Tiger Knee causes knockdowns only to
opponents who are using aerial maneuvers

Subject: Re: World Warriors - was: Duelists
oh yea. and one time I recall a GM I knew who had an NPC use Block to
Flaming Dragon Punch with a 5 Dex. The player was not amused.

I never considered it _easy_ to take on a World Warrior. Had a fella in
my
group take on Ken in an exhibition match because he was a little too
cocky
and thought his character was a complete goon. His quote was "Seventeen

dice for a Flaming Dragon Punch...and you're going to roll a second
time?".
Point being, a World Warrior is something a character should aspire to
be
and look on as a living legend. Looking at those records on Standing,
I'd
say the WW's earned it.

Move 4: Mr. Military stand up and make a Foot sweep for his combo but
don´t hit because Howard Ng make a jump foward kick and avoid the Foot
sweep and Mr.Military receive: 3 points of damage

There is a flaw here. The jumping foward kick may have been faster and
gained inititive, but if Mr Military was not dizzied, he would have still
been able to execute his foot sweep after the kick was through.

Mr.Military receives: 3 points of damage.

Again, elbow smash should not have affected a successful backflip kick

Ok, this turn I can agree with.... so that's 6 turns, five of which had
errors, all of which went against Mr. Military. I GOTTA call foul on this

Why didn't Danielle continue the slide kick? One point is never enough to
dizzy someone (unless it was a dizzy combo and Danielle only has one
stamina, which would mean that physical wasn't the primary...
interesting.)

Ok, he's out of range, I can see that.

This is how the first round usualy starts with my players.

What a comeback, folks! Just when you thought this fight would be all
about Julian, Danielle comeback with a DEVASTATING move. And quite
frankly, I don't think that Julian is quite sure of where he is anymore.

> Move 6: Julian Del Solar III recovers from stun and Danielle Blocks.

Bad strategy on Daniell's part, should have followed up instead of letting
him recover.

> Move 7: Julian Del Solar III make a Foward Back Flip but hit only air
> move 2 hexes back and Danielle make slide kick and move 2 hexes.

Ah, now they're maneuvering into position. I think the endgame is near.

> Move 8: Julian blocks and Danielle try suplex but grab nothing.

Julian was extremely lucky that Danielle underestemated (his? her?
Description is pretty neutral eitherway, and I do know guys called
Danielle) reach. I don't think he would have survived another
head-meet-mat move.

> Move 9: Julian make a Foward Kick and move two hexes, Danielle blocks.

It's coming down to the wire. Will Julian manage to impress the judges
enough to get the win?

> Move 10: Julian make a Back Flip Kick and retreat 2 hexes and Danielle
> make a Back Roll Throw but grab nothing

Nope.

> End of time: Danielle Garcia wins by time out.

You know, unless we actually work for it, we _never_ have a time out. The
only exception was a thirty second (3 rounds) hell match ended in a draw.

Move 2: Howard Ng make a Elbow smash for his combo but Mr.Military Back
flip kick is more faster Howard Ng receives: 1 point of damage and
Mr.Military don´t stop Howard Ng Elbow smash and receive: 2 points of
damage.

If Mr. Military was successful in his Backflip Kick, he would have
flipped
two hexes backwards from the position of being in the adjacent hex of
his
opponent. Therefore, there would be two empty spaces between him and his
opponent (the cool thing about backflip kick, which is why I chose it
for Mr
Military). Ok, so an Elbow Smash has a move of 1. Howard should not have
been able to reach Mr. Military to cause him this damage.

no, it causes Knockdown to anyone. The entry on Tiger Knee is slightly
redundant, but it says, basically "the Tiger Knee causes a Knockdown and
can dodge Projectiles. It causes Knockdown against Aerial Opponents."

So basically it spells out the same effect two different ways."

Move 3: Mr. Military blocks and Howard Ng make a Tiger knee (end of
combo) Mr.Military receive: 2 points of damage and fall on the ground
(knockdown)

Again, there is a mistake here. Tiger Knee causes knockdowns only to
opponents who are using aerial maneuvers

I guess that my current opponent has a higher stamina than my other ones.

Why didn't Mr. M do something that round. He lost his foot sweep last
round, so the dizzy should have been over with.

It must be no damage that breaks it.

Another time out? Sheesh.

Does Mr. M have higher health than me (not hard, I'll admit)? We both
took six damage.

the key word being "also" in the sentence...
otherwise, it would have read
"and can damage an opponent"
not
"and can also damage an opponent"
"also" connects the two statements together, indicating that both affects
are applied to an aerial opponent
geez i diddnt know I was turning into such a rules lawyer - and I'm pretty
good, but that is a poorly worded maneuver, I give you that!
Somebody contact White Wolf and ask, lol
Seriously, the "friendly fight" thing is GREAT, I love it, it's just what
the mailing list needs.. but I think the rules need to be applied more. i
know the thing is under testing right now, and that's fine, but many of the
mistakes are some of the more basic rules (combos, distance capibilities of
maneuvers).

Subject: Re: "Friendly" Fight ten: Mr.Military Vs Howa rd Ng.
it's a badly-written description open to several interpretations.

why would the author state that the maneuver can "also" hit someone in
the middle of an Aerial maneuver? *Any* non-crouching maneuver can hit
an Aerial opponent. Did the author feel the need to clarify the fact
that the Knee hit aerial opponents because under Description, it states
that the Knee is begun by crouching down?

Power Uppercut and Handstand Kick both say "this maneuver causes a
knockdown against Aerial opponents", which is much clearer. One could
easily take the Knee's description to mean "The Knee causes a Knockdown.
AND, even though you might be confused as to whether it hits aerial
opponents, it does."

House rule, I suppose.

Mr. Military has a Stamina of 4, and a Health of 13...
not too bad, but not wonderful, either.
I'm still confused on this "no damage breaks combo" thing... where is that
dang rule?
Good fight by the way... that dragon punch stings!

Group: streetfighter Message: 3543 From: Steve Karstensen Date: 11/15/1999
Subject: Re: "Friendly" Fight ten: Mr.Military Vs Howa rd Ng.
I dunno, I'd take that "also" to mean that the Knee causes a Knockdown,
and has the added bonus of damaging Aerial opponents... which would mean
that for some reason, normally, it would not even hit them, in which
case the Knee is a normal KD-causing ground maneuver.

I've been wrong before, though.

rd Ng.

it's a badly-written description open to several interpretations.

why would the author state that the maneuver can "also" hit someone in
the middle of an Aerial maneuver? *Any* non-crouching maneuver can hit
an Aerial opponent. Did the author feel the need to clarify the fact
that the Knee hit aerial opponents because under Description, it states
that the Knee is begun by crouching down?

Power Uppercut and Handstand Kick both say "this maneuver causes a
knockdown against Aerial opponents", which is much clearer. One could
easily take the Knee's description to mean "The Knee causes a Knockdown.
AND, even though you might be confused as to whether it hits aerial
opponents, it does."

House rule, I suppose.

Me thinks you are mistaken... the maneuver, found in Secrets of
Shadoloo,
page 27 states:
"The Tiger Knee will cause a knockdown and can also damage an opponent
caught in the middle of an aerial maneuver."
In no place does it state that the maneuver will cause Knockdown
against a
normal, non-aerial opponent. Power Uppercut is another example of a
maneuver
similar to this, and I think the Tiger Knee is the same in this regard.

Group: streetfighter Message: 3547 From: Chris Baker Date: 11/15/1999
Subject: Re: Mindless ramblings (Formerly Speedvs.Strength)
Just for the record...I DON'T watch wrestling every Monday night. But, the
times that I did, (maybe five scattered to date) I found it funny like a
surreal testosterone laden comedy of some sort.
Remember, just because you don't find it entertaining, doesn't mean it isn't
in some way entertaining, just that you can't appreciate it from your point
of view. Just like Roleplaying, most people don't think Roleplaying games
are entertaining, just pathetic, because they fail to realise that what they
dislike, others may enjoy.
You should not be worried about the people who take WWF style wrestling
seriously, idiocy is not your domain to judge or care about. Let others do
what they want and be damned with them. I don't know anyone who actually
takes Wrestling seriously, but I'm sure they're out there, and a few watts
short of a light bulb too.
I guess what I'm saying is, if you ever did watch wrestling, don't take it
so seriously yourself, we only tend to get offended by what WE take
seriously, not what others do. If you are to be offended, be offended at
THEIR stupidity, not the show, they make their decisions for themselves,
don't they?
