That's true. Even though there's currently quite a few kilometers between
our locations. About, oh, a thousand or so.

What's even funnier, is that we actually once played Street Fighter
together :)

It's nice to be remembered ;)

OK, I may get beaten down for this, but I did the stats for the four
turtles, Splinter, Casey Jones and April (all as starting characters
except Splinter). I modified the Animal Hybrid background some to do
it, and in the campaign idea I had with this it made sense. I don't
have a scanner so I couldn't post the actual sheets, but I could give
you the stats as they stand. I am thinking of improving them some, so
they will each get two versions (again excluding Splinter, he's already
top notch). Flame on, lol.

Actually, I had done up a variant on the TMNT, named "Tank", based on a
Galapagos turtle in a local zoo. Essentially, I split the Animal
Hybrid: Turtle background between swimming and shell (treated as Soak,
always useable).

Just out of curiosity, what style did you use for Casey Jones? Did you
incorporate the use of his arsenal of weapons (bat, hockey stick, golf club

If it's good enough for MUGEN, it's good enough for us...

I, for one, would love to see those stats. Personally, I'm working on
the details of the Mushroom Kingdom fighting style and it's two
greatest practicioners.

Are you going for the comic Turtles, the early '90s cartoon Turtles, the movie Turtles, or one of the more recent iterations?

IMO, the '90s cartoon rocked, as did the accompanying videogames. I'd love to see what you come up with.

A Super Smash Bros. RPG would rule all.

Except there just aren't enough dots on the planet Earth to stat Jigglypuff.

Hey,

Check out the Street Fighter Cannon Guide, it has everything about the
street fighter storyline and even cites it's sources.
http://fightingstreet.com/folders/variousinfofolder/variousinfopages/streetfighterplotguide.txt

As for Akuma, he killed Bison in SFII, even though he wasn't
registered in the tournament. Apparently he just jumped in the arena
from the crowd, did a raging demon attack, then teleported away.

In SFIII it's similar, he wasn't registered but attacked Gill, except
Gill survived. He had a match with Oro, who is a pretty even match for
him. He basically continues to train and waits for a warrior strong
enough to defeat him.

Nope. I play a few games on www.RPoL.net and keep an eye out for them. The
last one folded in February, before I even found it.

I imagine doing the combat online would be a bit of a hurdle due to the way
combat rounds work, what with the interrupted actions.

On the upside, I managed to find a 1st edition Deadlands game! :)

So, for all the people playing... do you use any House Rules?

I recently ran a few sessions (by the RAW), and a good time was had by

I've seen some good ideas on various websites, but right now I'm

Group: streetfighter Message: 15961 From: S Peter Cordner Date: 9/11/2007
Subject: Re: houserules
RE: houserules

We usually play with the following:

1) Aborting to a Block does not let you combo off of that Block

We found that between two opponents that had high Willpower with good Block
to XXX combos there was a lot of rounds that went: Maneuver, target Aborts
to Block, attacker Aborts to Block. You ended up burning a round and WP and
we decided it was boring enough to get rid of.

There was also the problem that if you had a good enough Block to XXX combo,
you could attack at will with ridiculous maneuvers, then Abort to the Block
rather than execute the move and go right into your badass combo afterwards.
For example, you could continually play Move maneuvers, which have high
Speed and Move characteristics and just wait for your opponent to execute
his maneuver. Continually interrupt and move away from the opponent until
its 'just right', then Abort to your Block at the perfect distance and then
start your combo next round.

2) Skills, Talents and Knowledges advance from a separate pool of XP

We liked advancing quickly and we also didn't want to play one-dimensional
characters. No one wanted to devote XP to skills when they had Maneuvers
and Techniques to pick up since our group was hyper-competitive, but as the
GM I wanted the characters to advance in skills too. We started awarding 2
XP per session that could only be devoted to Skills, Talents and Knowledges.

3) Speed tiebreaks were resolved by Focus, then Wits and Perception

We just got tired of every character starting with the same Mental stat
arrays. This isn't a problem unless your group is hyper-competitive with
each other (see above).

4) Techniques can start higher than 3

No one likes being well-rounded as much as kicking ass. We ditched the
character creation rule limited starting Techniques with sneering disdain.

5) Freebie points can be assigned at any point in the character
generation process

We didn't like how the RAW handled when the points were assigned. See #4
for the reason why.

6) We revised the Maneuvers

I don't think we altered any of the existing Maneuvers' costs or traits
(other than the Cartwheel Kick), but we did make a raft of new Maneuvers
that were designed to flesh out some of the weaker styles. I think this
Yahoo group still has our files with the new Maneuvers in them; I can always
email them to anyone that wants them.

7) SAMBO ALWAYS WINS! NO ONE DEFEATS BRUTALO!!

This one is one I instituted after playing Brutalo, the world's greatest
wrestler. The other players didn't always play by it.

Absolutely, and it's true for any game system... if there are rules you
do not like, change them.

In my case, I hate the 'attacks automatically hit' stuff, so I require
DEX + Technique rolls for all attacks (giving additional damage for
more than 3 successes). I also frequently fudge the straight-hex-line
nonsense, because if person A has a clear and straight line of sight to
person B, but it isn't a straight hex-line, what exactly is preventing
them from using a fireball/Rolling Attack/spitwad/etc? That's
generally a judgement call kind of deal.

Then there are things like house-made styles/maneuvers/etc,
and 'banned' maneuvers/backgrounds (Cartwheel Kick, I'm glaring at
you). So feel free to exercise your right as a GM to customize your
campaign... but as always, also factor in what your players are looking
for in a game. Asking them what makes sense or would be appreciated
would also be a wise move.

"BERLIN (Reuters) - A blind judo expert astounded a mugger by pinning him to

The assailant, a 17-year-old man of Asian origin, spotted the 33-year-old,

spokesman Rolf Wellershausen said.

But what the attacker did not know, the spokesman said, was that his victim

The 17-year-old threatened the blind man, then punched him in the face, at
which point the martial artist flipped him and held him down until police
arrived."

Is it just me, or does this really, really sound like a Street Fighter

Probably. From the description given, I hardly think the would-be mugger
was dizzy or knockdown. The article says, however, that the judoka
'flipped him', which might have been a Throw, Suplex, Hair Throw, or any
number of other techniques.

Of course, considering that he might have been an Elemental, and have
Sense Element, he might've sensed the assailant despite being blind,
Daredevil style.

Although an impressive feat by the sight-impaired judoka, it would've been
much more impressive if he'd gone Psycho Crusher on the mugger's ass.

However, I guess I'dve been all like, "screenshot or it didn't happen" in
that case.

Which sort of confirms my theory that Bison's alive and well - whatever
that might mean for him. "The greatest trick Bison ever pulled, was to
convince the world he was a baddie in a series of games," to paraphrase a
famous quote.

Do you do any "dex + dodge" type like in other white wolf?

I just use a ruler or tape messure for this kind of thing. one inch is one hex. or if you really
want to get detailed check the size of the hex and use that instead of just one inch.

Yes, but it is situational. One only gets to avoid the maneuver
totally if they interrupt with Movement enough to get the heck out of
the range of the attack before the attacker takes his Movement(or if
their Maneuver outright SAYS so). I take "range of the attack" to be
any hex in which the attacker could have moved and hit you from the
start of their action. If you interrupt after they move (a popular
team battle tactic to keep people from just Aborting or hitting a
different target)... you might have waited an instant too long and
gotten punched as you moved. Then you roll Dex + Athletics. Number of
successes of the defender subtracts from number of successes of the
attacker.

Of course, that has to be resolved BEFORE the interrupt maneuver goes
off (if you try to interrupt a Dashing Punch by Wall Spring Kicking
someone else, you're not gonna get to kick them if the punch catches
you and dizzies you!)... I do this to take a bit of the edge off of
Speed being the ultimate stat. (this is also why I allow someone in a
team battle to choose another valid target for their selected maneuver
if the original declared target is out of range... for the low low
price of one Endurance, of course)

If a pre-Move Interrupt does not take them out of the potential range
the attacker can move, there's no dodge... unless the maneuver
specifically lets you dodge (Aerial Maneuvers vs ranged attacks for
example; that's always a roll, even if you just jump right up next to
them). Obviously, that's also a departure from the rules, where Aerial
moves always defeat projectile attacks. That's just silly... I'm not
sure Joe Sumo with his one Athletics is hurdling over Ryu's fireballs
at will. :-)

I'm trying to get my head around these rules, but I've run into a few
problems.

- Athletic attacks, can you use Punch Defense or Kick Defense against
them, or are you restricted to only Block? Several of the Athletic
attacks seem to be pretty clearly a punch or a kick, but not all.

- In the no card variant (on page 143) when rolling to attack, what
difficulty is used and how many successes are needed? also how do you
handle blocks, grabs, etc?

- How do you handle straight line things in the direction of the lines
rather than the hexes?

- After a few fights it seems that high Dex (aka Speed) and high
Athletics (aka Move) are nearly impossible to do without. Would it
mess up the system too much to limit interupting to just before or
after actions, not anywhere in between?

Nope, if the attack is an Athletics attack, you cannot use Punch or
Kick Defense. Theory seems to be that with Athletics, the
angle/speed/form of the attack is sufficiently different from the
types of strikes those defense styles are effective against.
Storyteller always has prerogative to amend this, though.

> - In the no card variant (on page 143) when rolling to attack, what

Storyteller prerogative. I use cards AND rolls, and I generally just
go difficulty 6 (under normal circumstances), one success needed,
botching is a bad bad thing, and I also start adding damage dice for
more than three successes (but them's be house rules, yar). Blocks
and grabs don't really change... you roll Grab Technique to hit, and
Blocking just affects your Soak, not anyone's chance to hit.

Common sense.

You're right, and probably not. Test it out. The game is not
balanced (fast-grab rules the world) but has plenty of ways in which
to customize.

We had this issue come up in the groups I ran with. With the first group I ran the game for, they were just fine with the rules-as-was with just a few tweaks thrown in (strangely enough, they wanted a codified 'death' rule. :p) and the second group was a lot more choosy. To solve the initiative issue, we came up with something resembling White Wolf's other Storyteller games - we added the Dexterity and Wits scores together, added in the move modifier and a d10 roll. It made the initiatives more random and didn't always mean that the slower characters were constantly being interrupted.

CHAMPS is a maneuver creation system that attempts to give solid rules for making your own maneuvers and is a point-based balancing system as well. Most of the horribly powerful maneuvers are redesigned with the system. Limitations are placed on point spending.

Click on links you might have forgot (below) and follow it to CHAMPS. The rules are in .pdf just like you wanted.

If this is the case, shouldnt there be a special Block maneuver to
defend against Athletic attacks, since Punch, Kick, Grab and even
Focus all have some kind of special defense action?

Not necessarily, who says there has to be a special defense against every
form of attack?
As written you can't use punch or kick defense on athletic attacks but you
can always house-rule it.

Historically common sense is actually pretty useful ;-)

It is surely feasible to develop that as a new Maneuver.

If you're looking for an all purpose black-and-white rule, I
apologize, but I don't use one. I examine the hex map, determine
qualitatively whether or not it's in range (I don't actually measure
because that wastes time and interrupts the flow of action...) and
say yes or no as to whether the opponent is in range for the attack.

If you really need exact measurements (maybe you're a hard core miniatures
gamer or something), take a piece of string and mark on the string hex-length
intervals with magic marker and use that to see if it's in range.

In my games I don't allow "straightline" movement along the the lines. You must position yourself so that your target is straight line along the hex sides. I consider it a limitation of the move. It allows characters to close on their targets in a safe matter.

If it is something like say a gun, which has a range, then you count hexes to the target, however, you choose to do it. If you can reach the target in less hexes than the range, it is in range. For line of sight I use a ruler, but, I try to take care when I design designing my maps that this isn't an issue. Most times you can get rid of the problem with a little care in constructing your encounters.
