I've always had similar goals in my head to do something like this. Still do
in fact. Just haven't made the time necessary to dump the code into a
working system.

I'm certainly excited to see what you're cooking up.

I don't see how it would be overpowering to code JKD.
There are a number of ways to approach programming a system as you are. One
of which is to have all of the moves listed. For each move, put what it does
mechanically. When it comes to cost, list the styles that can take it, and
just always add JKD to that list +1.

Best of luck and you're right, this is long overdue.

JKDs stupid special feature is kinda overpowering to anyone who has
to code it too, lemme tell ya.

I had planned to start as starting characters and then build as the
tourney progresses.

Then give out some xp to represent whatever you ppl do between
tourneys, and then do another one w00t.

It's kind of overwhelming to due it my old way, or rinaldos way, but
hopefully the new way I'm trying will pretty much let it run on it's
own.

It's really long overdue, I'm surprised no one has done this yet!

Yeah I've been thinking about it way longer than I've been working
on it too. It actually prompted me to learn php and mysql, which
landed me a career change at the company I work for (yaay street
fighter!)

I finally decided that doing it the "perfect" way I had in my head
would probably just lead to me putting it off for forever, So I'm
going to go ahead with this toned-down version of it.

Basically, instead of being an idiot-proof complete game. It will
just be a tool and players will still have to know the rules.

Maybe I can add on to it later, I just want to get the ball rolling.
It's probably way more legal this way too, a lot less material
provided.

Basically a character generator and a combat card generator, along
with a forum with a hexmap that has functions to interupt, to pick
your move and declare your speed without yet revealing your move, to
abort, and for a "DM" to hand out xp and renown.

I'm also going to allow people to create their own sub-forums, where
they are DM/Admin over all posts inside. So basically anyone who
want's to run their own campaign complete with *gasp* roleplaying
posts etc can start it up right there.

Well not overpowering like "my life is ruined" but certainly more
work than a normal style.

Group: streetfighter Message: 15730 From: slappy_the_ringthief Date: 2/22/2006
Subject: Re: Cardless
I don't have my books handy (at work) but I beleive the option
you're talking about totally does away with special moves and combos.

Basically like playing in other white wolf games.

Instead of playing a dragon punch, you *describe* a dragon punch (or
however you want to hit him) and use the standard attribute+ability
dice pool.

If this is the case, initiative is probably should be handled like
in normal white wolf games with a roll of perception+alertness to
determine who acts first.

I would also opt to make characters roll their soak as is standard
in other white wolf games, rather than getting the whole thing.

I've never played that way, but it could be a nice way to
uncomplicate some things for newer players, or veterans of other
white wolf games. Personally I just love the standard SF combat
system too much to abandon it with this option.

It would be a good way to handle short meaningless combat, or stunt
cards though.

Besides the "cardless" option from the book, I think most people
skip using the actual physical cards even when using the standard
combat rules. They are a pain in the butt. I only make players use
them after I catch them cheating (Picking a move, but then
pretending that they picked a different move when it's time to
reveal their intentions).

You can get my Combat Chart Generator here:
http://www.sfrpg.com/downloads.html
great for playing without cards, or for a cheat-sheet to use when
filling out your cards.

No one can defeat the mystic style of... Shotokan Karate!
Oh, I see you've heard of it. No doubt you're heard of my fighting ability
and wondered "What is this amazing fighting style this FIGHTING MASTER
possesses?!".
Soon you will see first hand.

I'm winning this tournament for Sensei Dan - repaying him for all his hard
work and dedication in training me!
Its been a hard three months, but I think I'm finally ready! Get ready for a
world of hurt! A whole WORLD of hurt! Do you understand me? Can you

Hi folks. I know it's been a while since I updated, and for that, I
apologize. I bring bad news for our fans, though I suspect that many
of you had anticipated this announcement for a while now.
Regrettably, we have had to put Capcom World Tournament on
indefinite hold. I am letting our forum readers know about this
first, before making an official, public statement on our website.

There are many reasons for this decision, but the most outstanding
one is due to the current state of the industry. I believe that in
one of my last posts before my hiatus, I had mentioned a severe
decline in industry performance. Though this would normally be
priviledged information, I feel that it is important for our fans to
understand what this really means as it will ultimately affect you
as the end consumer. In speaking with the director at a major
industry marketing firm, I learned that over 1100 brick and mortar
retail stores selling games have closed down in the past year; less
than 200 new stores have opened in that same time period. That's
about 25% of the industry's distribution network. Also, overall
industry sales figures are down somewhere in the order of 30% (I
forget the exact number, but it's around there). We are no exception
to this trend.

The production costs to complete Capcom World Tournament were just
much too high for us to continue, given our financial performance
from the 2005 fiscal year. Even if we took the possibility of pre-
orders into account, we would only get about 40% of our needed
capital to continue.

While we regret having to make this decision, we feel that it is a
necessary step in order to ensure the continuation of LRG as a
company. Our currently available products are not affected by this
decision, though future production will be slowed down to help us
stabilize.

I am trying to put together a little something for our fans who have
been patiently waiting for the product. I do not plan on making this
a public offering, so no mention will be made outside our forums.
Once it is ready, I'll make another short announcement about it.

Our grace period with Capcom will end on March 31. At that time, we
will be removing all association with Capcom and Capcom World
Tournament from our website. I will allow this forum to continue
after that, but under a different name so that those of you who
still want to talk about what could have been are welcome to stick
around.

Again, my apologies to our fans. This hasn't been easy for me (heck,
it took me 2 days just to write this post!). I can only hope that
things will improve enough in the future to let us try again. Thanks
for everyone's patience and support over the last couple of years.

Thanks for the post and that news sucks. Man. *sigh*
I'm curious about what they're going to release to the fans who had been
waiting, though. I'm sure after all this time they've come up with some
chunk of work.

I wonder why they couldn't release it as a PDF. I'd slap
down some bucks for it, as I've been waiting for this for
quite a while.

I wonder why they couldn't release it as a PDF. I'd slap
down some bucks for it, as I've been waiting for this for
quite a while.

A sad, but good choice. They would merely need to make a roster book. And
having anything official with Street Fighter would be enough to increase
Dragonfist sales overall.

I'll reiterate what I said on RPG.net's thread about this:

"In other words, they released a half-assed demo, got massively shit on, and
attempting to fix it, just ran short of time/money/Capcom patience. They
shot for the moon and stars, but never made orbit and now are plowing back
into earth."

They overreached, with all the talk about "Grooves" (Playtesting 1 system
was too easy, let's make 4 or 5!) and now are paying the price

Probably they would only sell 1 copy and then filesharing would kill
it (something I only thought was okay with White Wolf because it was
already out of print).

Still you would think that if its SOOOO close to done, any money would
be better than no money, but maybe they haven't fully commited to
capcom yet and would have to pay them more than they would likely
recoup from e-books to keep the liscense.

They are done enough to have playtested it, and even had a tournament
at some convention, so it is playable.

maybe like nathan said, they will strip out the "capcom" parts and
give us the base system.....

heres hoping...

A lot of speculation there, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was
the in fact the case.

The kicker for me is that a while back Joe assured everyone that it
would definately come out, because they had already put so much
money into it that they would lose more at this point by dropping it
than going forward.

Then today, BAM, he cites money as a reason.

And someone replies to him thanking him for all his honesty.

wtf.

Well, likely this isn't one man's money, but a committee or a council.
It could have been his opinion, or his personal staffs opinion, that no
matter what this project was a go to the end - they've put so much time,
money, etc. into it, it would be a bigger loss to NOT go through with it.

Then the powers that be, for whatever reason - whether they weren't pleased
with the overall product, or thought the time or product was not right for
the market (as he stated in your post, Slappy) - pulled it.

He could have been honest when he said it is a definite go, and honest again
when he said the cost outweighed the potential profit. I doubt it was all up
to him.

That is a possibility,

It's just that after all this waiting, I would like a more specific
explanation (from them, not you). Even the very general explanation
they DID give was "one of many reasons". They strung us along for a
good long while there and no one likes a tease.

It's the first thing I felt like asking him, but I didn't want to
be "that dick who started trolling in the goodbye thread". I'm sure
it pains them to halt the project so theres no sense in me posting
anything on their forums that could be considered disrespectful.

Plus I have mixed feelings. On the one hand im a little bitter about
it, but on the other I could tell those guys were huge fans of the
franchise and seemed to be doing a great job with it.

Maybe we don't 'deserve' a more detailed explanation, or have
a 'right' to a more detailed explanation, but I just sure would've
liked one. I wish we bugged their offices or something.

Man I feel like I had a miscarriage.

Here's a hint at what character creation will look like
http://www.sfrpg.com/beta/new.php

It doesn't do anything yet, and I lost a lot of prime coding-time to a
HD crash this weekend, but hopefully it will be running soon.

Also you can sign up for the beta here
http://www.sfrpg.com/beta/
but like I said, it's not running yet.

Subject: Replacements
Since Living Room Games isn't going to be making Capcom World Tournament,
has anyone else thought of using a different game to run a Street Fighter
like game? I'm talking about other games besides the old White Wolf one.

I think I'm going to try using Weapons of the Gods from Eos Press to run a
contemporary martial arts game.
I don't actually have the book yet, but its been ordered. Anyone else try
something similar?

Other possibilities I was thinking of are:

Feng Shui
D20 Modern with the Martial Arts Mayhem book from Green Ronin
BESM

Anyone else have any ideas?

Palladium's Ninjas and Superspies is alright.
I don't like the way it's combat / martial arts system works, so
substituting the system that White Wolf gave us here works well to
compliment the whole espionage adventure setting.

I've contemplated using the Hero system, or RTG's Fusion System version

Fuzion is a great choice, inmho. The HERO system book on
martial arts is compatible with it, with a touch of work,
and you can tell all sorts of stories with it.

ACTUALLY...
While I was waiting for the D20 Street Fighter game to come out, I have been
playing Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Game (1998, TSR) since it came out -
and though I don't have anyone to play with in it, I've been adapting SFtSTG
to it. As a comic book roleplaying game, martial arts and martial art
tournaments aren't really discussed, as I'm sure you would have guessed. The
adaption that I'm doing, though, isn't just a generic martial arts addition
to the game, but as authentic of a feel as I can for the video fighting game
genre - particularly Street Fighter.

I've dubbed this "campaign setting" Street Fighter Hero Adventure Game (not
the best name, but its a appropriate hybrid of both names). So, speaking of
which, if anyone wishes to hear more about it, we have a board here on Yahoo
Groups.

Subject: Desparatly seeking somebody to play xena, gabrielle, Street Fighter
Please forgive me if advertiseing is not allowed in here. I've been sending out invites to many groups and nobody has responded to them. I thought that I would advertise it here to see if anybody wants to join it. My group was supposed to start in February, but due to not having anybody play a street fighter character, my group has been held off until I can get somebody. I need to start it off with somebody playing Ryu and Ken, Chun li and Balrog can come in at a later date.

Group Name: Xena-Street Fighter Weekly RPG Series

Address: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xena-streetfighter-weekly-rpg-series/

Genre: Fantasy, Fiction, Non-Fiction

Group Description: This group is for a role playing game taking off from my other weekly series group
http://yahoogroups.com/groups/xena-streetfighter_weekly-series/. The only
difference is that people on this group pick their parts on here instead of me
playing all of them on my other group (mentioned above). This is a no holds
barred role playing game. Any subject goes. The only thing that IS NOT ALLOWED
is the killing off of a character(s) without discussing it with me (or the
others) before hand. If it isn't discussed with me (or the others) before hand,
it will mess the whole storyline up. Other than that, have a field day with the
topics and roles.

Again I'm sorry if advertising isn't allowed here, I thought that I would take the chance and post it here anyway. If advertising isn't allowed here then just delete it.

I understand how it could be seen as advertising, but its on topic. This
board here, while ABOUT the role-playing game by White Wolf, isn't FOR
role-playing. It's as wrong as linking to a site of yours that sells Street
Fighter toys.
Anyways, that's my opinion on it.

As for the game, could you tell me/us more about it? Xena and Street
Fighter? So, is it Street Fighter set in the Xena setting? Can we be home
brew characters, or only established? Are you going to give us stats, do we
give you stats, or is it freeform (no stats, just story)? And finally, you
said the genre was, among other things, Non-Fiction. Non-Fiction, how?

Sure I can tell you more about it:

It's a game that has a mixture of Xena and Street Fighter all in one. It
has both plots in it. It's centered in the twenty first centery (Our
society the way it is now), has a no holds barred topic (Topics are open
for anything) and is set in reality. You can bring non-fictinal (True
topics) topics or fictional (Fantasy) topics into it. It's basiclly a
story telling game where people play their own part in it with a
character of their choosing (Providing it hasn't been already taken).
It's sort of like a "Soap opera" with a story line to it. There is a
file in the file section that explains the story plot and scene. The
story that is in the files section tells you the main purpose of the RPG
which is litterally the heart of the RPG. Without knowing the story (Or
perhaps the last chapter of the story), you would probably lose the
storyline or the purpose (Or meaning) of the game. I'm still editing the
story so the ending of the story (The last chapter) will be changed.

As for "Stats" part of it, that's a thing that I'm need to ask you to
explain to me. Is it "Stats" meaning about the character (Where they
come from and their purpose in life)? I'm used to the word profiles if
that's what you mean. If you're dealing with profiles, the profiles are
centered in the Street Fighter 2V series, Street Fighter two the
animated movie, and Street Fighter alpha. The third and final profile
(Plot) is an unknown area of Street Fighter which is unknown to anybody
who is a Street Fighter fan. That part I won't discuss in here but in
the game itself. There is a form to fill out in the data base section
where you can (For ex) fill out Ryu's and Ken's profile so that other
people know who they are and their profile (Ex. Ryu: Japan, 6'2", Roams
the earth looking to become strong etc).

This is my first time doing an RPG so if there's anything that I can do
to make it better or if you want to add to it that would make it better
so I don't look stupid please tell me.

Sounds good.

By "stats", I meant Strength, Intelligence, techniques, moves.
Are we, or you, rolling dice - either though an on-line dice generator
script or real life, or are we just describing our actions and the other
person(s) involved describe theirs (this is called "freeform")?

If it is freeform, the problem is that everyone is a bad ass and its rare
for anyone to lose, because rare is it that anyone's ego lets them.

The setting is set in the real world (2006ish), but also Xena/Hurcules?
I guess I'll have to read the file you uploaded. I can't right now, but I'll
try to later.

Subject: Re: Desparatly seeking somebody to play xena, gabrielle, Street Fig
Ok, that makes more sense to me. Thank you for explaining that to me.

For stats, everybody in the story is considered a "Bad ass" by the
government and are also considered "Terrorists" because everybody is
fighting against it. Everybody is as strong as they describe themselves
in the street fighter storyline, and that includes intelligence and
techniques moves etc.

As for script, we describe what we're doing in the story. Ex. "Ryu walks
up the stars cautously getting himself ready for the next guy who tries
to jump him." We don't have a written script which is why I consider it
an open topic reality RPG.

As for the setting, the setting on both sides for Xena and Street
Figher, both of them take place in the 21st century (2006 and on)
including Hercules if he's ever brought up in it.

Sorry I had to repost this, I messed up on my last reply:

Ok, that makes more sense to me. Thank you for explaining that to me.

For stats, everybody in the story is considered a "Bad ass" by the
government and are also considered "Terrorists" because everybody is
fighting against it. Although everybody is considering a "Bad ass" and a
"Terorist" all the street fighter and the xena characters are all
freinds of each other. Everybody is as strong as they describe
themselves in the street fighter storyline, and that includes
intelligence and techniques moves etc.

As for script, we describe what we're doing in the story. Ex. "Ryu walks
up the stars cautously getting himself ready for the next guy who tries

If you're asking when the tournament will be done so you could kick my ass,
the tourney will never be done - because what you're asking could never be
done. Unless, of course, that's your way of asking Slappy to allow cheating
in the system. ;)
