Okay. Take two maneuvers your character has (they can be the basic ones like
Block, Jab, etc) and spend a Power point (4xp or 3 freebie) and you can link
them together into a combo, giving the second one in the string a +2 to speed
(which stacks if there are other speed bonuses like from block). They can be
the same maneuver (I believe that Ryu has a jab-jab-jab combo in the main
book).

There is no point to a block-block combo because two blocks in a row are
considered to be continuous and the second block has an effective speed of
infinity without a combo.

You can have up to three maneuvers in a combo at a cost of two power points.

Can you add a third move to a combo you all ready possess? Good question.
It's not covered by the rules, so that would require a judgment call from the
storyteller. I say yes, because it's something both anime and real martial
artists do. On the other hand, a case could be made that since combos are so
cheap, why not make them unimproveable and make them start from scratch.

Dizzying from combos are considered on a per move basis. For example if your
character does a jab-jab combo on someone with two stamina and you get 2 damage
for the first hit and 1 for the second hit, there is no dizzy because a move in
a normal combo has to dizzy the opponent by itself, without any help from other
moves in the combo.

Do multi-hit moves combine their damage to dizzy an opponent in a normal combo?
No. Multi-hit moves are essentially mini combos (a combo within a combo) and
must inflict enough damage with a single hit to dizzy.

Dizzy combos cost the same as normal combos + 1 power point. All that stuff I
wrote about combo damage not combining to check for a dizzy flies out the
window in a dizzy combo. Multi-hit maneuvers not only combine the damage from
it's multiple hits to check for a dizzy, it combines with the other maneuvers
in a combo.

Does damage from Maka Wara apply in a Block-X dizzy combo? I say yes.

Can I do a Jumping Jab - Rekka Ken Jab - Extendable Limbs Jab with a normal
Jab-Jab-Jab combo? I say no, there should be enough concentration required in
using "add on" maneuvers that it would require it's own combo.

Can I use a combo on more than one person (example: a jab-jab-jab combo where I
hit one opponent with the first jab and the last two hit a second opponent)? I
say yes you would get the speed benefits (changing direction quickly is key in
just about ever martial art I've ever heard of), but dizzy effects would only
apply if there was more than one hit on a given opponent.

Can I start a three maneuver combo in the middle (example: with a
Jab-Short-Roundhouse can I just do a Short-Roundhouse)? I say yes, but my sifu
makes me start katas in the middle (and mirror them, and do them in reverse,
etc).

And now for something slightly different: Team Combos

Team Combos were introduced in The Players Guide and have two variants:

The Instant Combo: Each character in a combo spends one power point to place a
move in the Instant Combo. When using the combo, faster characters must hold
their attack until the slowest person in the combo can attack. Each strike
goes off at the same time against the same opponent and their damage combines
to check for a dizzy. The moves can be different, and obviously there is no
point to Block, Move, or other non-damaging moves in these kind of combos.

If one or more of the combos members are not capable of participating in the
combo (out of range, unconscious, at a bar picking up attractive people in
feats of strength, etc) can the remaining members attempt the combo regardless?
I don't believe that The Player's Guide covers that situation, and I don't have
it on me at the moment, so I say yes.

The Extended Combo: Extended combos are almost identical to Instant combos
except that they take place over the course of several rounds. One person
strikes an opponent with the first move of combo, then next round the second
person attacks the same opponent with the second move, and so on. These
maneuvers don't have to go off at the same speed, but at least the people with
the first two maneuvers have to be present to attempt a Extended combo.

Can I combine Instant Combos and Extended combos? This possibility only
occurred to me as I was writing this. After two seconds of pondering, and
since I'm a jerk, I will answer your question with another question. Why is
your storyteller sending you up against people with double digit staminas?

I was accutally looking for write-ups, on these styles if anyone had

styles. I just can't find them anymore.

It's funny you mention that because as of late I'm
working on a Game conversion for Garou - Mark of the
Wolves to Street Fighter RPG.

Although i have yet to write down the styles I have a
few characters converted already and am working on the
rest as you speak.

The hard part with Garou is alot of characters have
their own fighting styles like Terry, Rock learned
from Terry but has adapted some of the moves to fit
his own needs. So there are some minor differences.
If your interested I can upload what I've done so far.

Hi there!
I have this material (covering everything official from the books), but it

I wonder why this list is so dead. No SF games running?
Anyone with expectations about the new system?
Does anyone know about 'net books' expanding the SF material? I can't find
them.

Please let me know of any typos / errors.
By the way, I didn't make the list from scratch now, just fixed some small

I'm sure some folks were waiting with breathless anticipation for the new
game...and some, like me, were a little put off with the demo.

That said, I was talking to my 12 year old nephew today at our family
gathering, and I think I'm going to try to use the Street Fighter RPG to get
him into gaming.

Wish me luck...if the game happens, I'll keep you all informed on the

yeah the demo was.......interesting.

I myself will be sticking to ye old faithful for the time being. At last I
read they were still trying to get it released. I'm wondering though how
long they can keep doing this with a licensed product?

I know Sierra had a similar issue with their NFL licensing and ended up
canning their football game line because of it. Not saying that Capcom would
yank the rub out from under LRG, but moreso that maybe they bit off more
than they can chew

I would love to get a copy of the finished product. Not
that I like d20, mind you, but I can always use the info to
create a version of it for my own system.

Nope. I want it to come out though I dislike d20 of borg as much as the next

I'm new to this group but I had a question about improved pin. I know
it says it works on opponents in adjacent hexes, but I've always just
taken it that it could be used on opponents who started off adjacent

imagined that was the intent, as for a move with such a boring name,
it's pretty well super if you don't need to enter your foe's hex.

If I have a combo with a Block as it's first maneuver, can I abort to a
Block during a round and use that as beginning of the combo?

Specifically, I have a Shotokan practitioner who has a Block/Back Roll

next turn and get the combo speed bonus?

(Also, don't the Block and combo speed bonuses stack?)

Thanks!

- Combos starting from blocks can be chained at anytime after a block

- the +2 speed bonus of a block is indeed played ON TOP of the +2
speed bonus of a combo, making the following maneuver performed at a
+4

This sounds imbalancing, and maybe it is. However, if you look at the
way real martial arts work, typically students will learn to chain
moves together after a lock as part of their kata. This becomes muscle
memory, so a student could pull off certain moves faster off a block
then he or she could normally. That's how I rationalize it anyway.

I've always had a problem with chaining blocks in combos, but mainly because I'm a balance nut.

If a fast character sets up a combo after a block alot of the time there is simply nothing a slower character can do. They can't even block.

I guess my problem with it is that I find that numbercrunchers/powergames will tend to block just to get the speed boost...which I just find to be wrong. I find nothing wrong with someone comboing out of a block when they actually block something...it fits into a counterattack which is cool. I start to have problems when the first thing that happens is

STer: "Speed 10"
PwGMr: "Block!"
STer: "Speed 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3"
The brick-type character is too far away to hit his now stationary opponent
Brick: "Well...the fierce punch is out. I'll use my move to advance I guess."

turn 2

STer: "Speed 10"
PwGMr: "I finish my block to cartwheel kick (dizy) combo!"

Well...when I think about it (and I have...it's why I really don't play the WW system any more...) the problem is that speed and dizy combos are too powerful when combined.

I'm really hoping that CWT will introduce a bit more balance. Even if it is a bit artificial...

I've always played that you don't get the block bonus unless you
actually block something. The speed bonus comes from your character
stalling the opponents move, thus throwing them off balance.

Blocking the air does nothing.

Heck, if someone blocks air, not only should they lose the speed
bonus, they should also lose glory for acting like a flaming idiot.

Yeah, I was worried about that, too... if I were the GM, I'd rule
that if you abort to Block, but there isn't an attack to actually
block (irregardless of whether the Block was effective or not, only
that you attempted to legitimately block an attack), it's a cost of 1
Willpower. This might not matter at higher levels, but beginning PCs
don't have massive amounts of Will to throw around.

Alternatively, I suppose it could just be ruled that "There's nothing
to block... either do something else, or lose the turn." At any
rate, I had it pictured being used as a counterattack, not a 'power
gamer' move.

Well, technically you're suposed to spend a willpower to abort something anyway, and it's not the abort I've got problems with. It's blocking for no reason just for the +2 speed that ticks me off.

------------------

Yeah, that's almost how I ruled on it too when I ran SF:STG except I'm not that nice.

I created 2 rules:

1) A Block cannot be part of a combo because the +2 speed already takes the counterattack effect into account.

2) A standard Move cannot be part of a combo because the idea is just lame.

I'll admit the second is a bit arbritary, but required all maneuvers to be made with CHAMPS so if they wanted a combo that started off with them moving like a bat out of hell, they were forced to make a move that moved them like a bat out of hell.

Worked great.

Dunno about that one though.
Nothing wrong with a quick standard jab in a combo to give you the +2

Yeah, though the other +2 bonus isn't a counterattack bonus; it's a
muscle memory bonus from doing the same series of techniques over and
over again. I can see why in some cases it's largely unbalancing,

Hello all just joined list and had two major questions.

First is any one going to be running an online tournament soon.

Second what is a fair distribution for xp in a regular campaign for
streetfighter. This has always troubled me in running white wolf games
and I would appreciate any input I could get and I know my players
would appreciate it as well.Thaynk you.
Group: streetfighter Message: 15518 From: Jens-Arthur Leirbakk Date: 7/19/2005
Subject: Re: Online tourneys and Xp in Campaigns
1) Not me, at any rate.

2) Good question.

In the campaign we're currently running (which means that we are several
GMs that does utilize various NPCs, but doesn't step on each other's
proverbial toes when it comes to story archs), we're using what we call
'jet progression'.

Jet progression is a term for giving more XP per session than what is
normal. This was because we got bored with playing up to about rank 3
(fifty-and-something XP total) and then scrapping the campaign for
something different. Jet progression is about 10 XP per session, and is
about 3x normal progression.

This means that the guidelines we're normally using is pretty much the
ones stated in the book - 1 for showing up, 1 for (optionally) playing the
character 'in character', 1 for doing one or more crazy stunts, and 1
special award for anything that's outstanding, which means our regular
progression is something like three to five points of XP per session of
about four hours or so.

When doing fights, we use 1 XP per fight, 1 XP for advancing to a rank one
have never previously had (so no bunny-jumping between rank 5 and 6), as
well as 1 XP for advancing one permanent honor or permanent glory. There
are sometimes special XP rewards for winning a tournament as well.

Lately, what we've tried to revise is the progression of honor. In my
opinion, it's just too damn hard to gain honor by being honorable - the
most surefire way to gain honor is to dizzy your opponent and then do
nothing! The jury's still out on the revision, though.

Hope that helps.

A recent addition to the XP system we use (we being me, since none of my
players are on the list) is the compensation system. If I do something that
specifically screws over you character (Shadoloo chooses to kidnap you niece
instead of player 2's grandmama, the IRS decides to audit you since you haven't
been declairing your fight earning 'cause it's illegal in america, The Triad's
switch your family heirloom weapons with new improved Foldgers crystals, etc.)
you get a XP and if it takes more than one session/3 hours realtime) to rectify
the situation, then you get another XP on top of that.

It seems to be working well, and has cut down on any potential whining that I'm
picking on any single player.

If I wanted to accelerate XP gains, I'd probably use the Exalted XP system.

Would anyone involved in World's Strongest:
http://www.coolmanfamily.com:8080/sf/tournament/wst1/
Be interested in finally finishing it?

Sorry I just kinda stopped in the middle of it but it was a very
weird time in my life.

(BTW I'm learning perl right now to automate the whole tournament
process with cgi scripting.)

oh and btw, I have a new webhost at least for now:

Well if everyone is still available I would like to continue from
this point.

If I'm unable to contact some of the people it wouldn't really be
fair to continue without them like it's their fault they're not
ready after a 2 yr wait.

Yes I have but I don't have your zeal to keep the archives, I lost them and
many other stuff a long time ago after a virus in my computer (I had to
format the hd)
