Look, you don't go to tournaments for the fights, staning, cash, or any of that
crap. You go because, invariably, interesting things happen there. Usually to
the equaly interesting people there. Whether it's just that cute fighter
you're pared up against in the third round asking you out on a prefight date,
the ghost of Abraham Lincon showing up in your bedroom, or the bomb ticking
away in the basement, you go to stave off boredom.

Tournaments are the 'So you meet in a tavern' of Street Fighter. They bring
people together that would never have met otherwise. And you just know that
when you bring a lot of diverse, powerful people together, SOMETHING's going to happen.

Streetfighter is about "street fights". What's with all these
tournaments?

Just beat up some guy with a decent reputation.

Think about the old days when someone from another martial arts
school would roam around challenging other martial arts schools
around the country.

I think players only want tournaments for the easy xp.

Subject: Rules option for improving moves
Hello!

What do you think about this idea?

A character can train a previously learned technique to improve it by
one point in any one of the three fields speed, damag, or technique.

This improvement is only possible with special moves and only on moves
that aren't already direct improvements of other moves.

Examples:
- While I am not allowed to improve my Fierce Punch, I can improve my
Power Uppercut to yield one more point of damage (or have a heightened
speed or give me move 2 instead of 1).
- It is not allowed to retrain Flaming Dragon Punch but I can retrain
the normal Dragon Punch.

The cost is the same as if you have to learn the move from scratch.
You can improve one technique more than once, by improving another
aspect each time. But you always have to start from the basic
technique. Improving an already improved technique is not possible.

Example:
- I improve my Double Hit Kick twice. First I train to make it faster
(speed +1) than I want a fiercer version of it (damage +1), resulting
in two new techniques: The Fast Double Hit Kick and the String Double
Hit Kick.

Also, a bonus from Senseis is not applicable anymore to train these
new techniques. If you have rules to measure the necessary time to
learn a new move the time to improve the technique is twice as long.

What do you think about game balance with this optional rule? Would
you add some extra rules? What further techniques would you exclude
(e.g. Power Uppercut and Double Hit Kick as weaker but essentially the
same versions of stronger variants)?

I like the idea (it's nice to be able to make you're own versions of the
dashing uppercut or Great Wall of China. My only question would be what you
mean by increasing technique. Also, for some maneuvers I'd allow move to be upgraded.

i like it overall.
may need to be playtested but its an excellent start.

as long as you cant keep stacking +1 it shouldnt really unballance
the game any more than its already unballanced.

I suppose you mean the following part:

That's a typo: instead of 'technique' I wanted to write 'movement'.

I agree fully here. Stacking is not allowed, only branching to
emphasize the different elements of a technique (spd, dam, move).
And speaking of unbalancing, this option is of course open for npc's also.

About playtesting: I also would like to know if players would use this
technique to strengthen their trademark power moves or if they are
going to improve their cheaper moves (Jump, Double HK, Throw, etc.). I
think it's mostly a question of earned exp at each game session.

I think I will use it first for NPC, just to take my player by surprise
you know they do calcul the stat of npc by deductions...
so with this house rule I can still make them sweat...

I would like to announce that I have completed
transferring the CHAMPS maneuver creation rules into a
.pdf file. The file is 8 MB (large!), but well worth
the download time, I beleive. The .pdf is full of art
(not my own) and full of great rules I spent a long
time designing. The PLUS rules have also been
modified, and there are creation rules for both
Backgrounds and Styles.
I hope everyone will take the time to download and
enjoy the CHAMPS rules and give me plenty of feedback
to make it a great addition to the Street Fighter
rules. I think using the rules to design new, balanced
Maneuvers and other game ideas is both desireable and
fun. Let me know what you guys think!

Hello,

I have been a part of the list for about five years now and have been reading only for the most part I was just wondering. Last time I read anything there was a promise of some company I forgot their name republishing or redoing the street fighter books. And somebody put up a link to the company's website a while back when they first started talking about it. I was just wondering what the status was with that and also what is Capcom World Tournament a new street fighter Arcade game last one I got to play 2 turbo. Also Rinaldo if you're still out there are you still running you're online tournaments.

Thanks, Chad Phillips

Capcom World Tournament is Living Room Games' take on the pen-and-
paper Street Fighter RPG. It will utilize the d20 (or is that Open
Game License/OGL?) system for rules, and is tentatively due for
release at Origins this year.

As for the newest video game, I think that's Street Fighter 20th
Anniversary Edition, due out in... July, I think.

The company that is doing the new 'Street Fighter' is Living Room Games. www.lrgames.com

The core book is going to be called Capcom World Tournament. Their first source book is going to be for Street Fighter called The Street Fighter Encyclopedia. After that there will be other source books for Darkstalkers, Rival Schools and Final Fight.

However, its a whole new system, based on D20. Supposedly its going to be OGL, so you wont need to buy the D&D Player's Guide to play this game. (Which I think its a huge plus. I refuse to buy D20 games. OGL is ok, D20 BAD!)

Thats the scoop. The game should come out for Origins which is in June.

Thanks

While I wouldn't mind being in online roleplaying camapign they tend to be very time cosuming especially if you're doing it through e-mail trying to talk to one another can take a while. Mirc isn't quite so bad as it is real time or something else like a chat utility, but no what I was really interested in was tournament it dosen't take as much time and watching it through is e-mail is enjoyable. Where as I tend to prefer to do most of my roleplaying in person. Not all of it mind you because I have done online roleplaying before I prefer to do it in person.

Subject: Incorporated Settings/Scenarios
Hello again!

During our year-long game of Street Fighter (10 years now? Dunno for
sure) I have incorporated many persons, events and places from other
sources, mainly tv, movie and books. To name a few:
- Gold Diggers: Many characters and places like the parallel dimension
of Jade or the library of Shangri-La
- Buffy, Vampire Slayer: Buffy, Angel & the gang
- Highlander: no specific person
- Hyper Police: Sakura

Some of those characters only made short appearances. Others became
invaluable allies during our adventures.

Now I am curious what settings you took and how they affected your
game. And, of course, if you are interested, I try to remember some
anekdotes with those characters during my game.
CU, CD!

When I ran my game I had cameos by Mortal Kombat characters and a lot of
comic characters.
Like Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Nightwing, Shang Chi, characters like that.
I wouldnt mind hearing some stories about your game.

Right now I'm running my crew through Doc Savage's The All White Elf. I later
plan on adding a couple of people from Naruto as well (Kakashi, Inner Sakura.
Not sure about Sakura herself though. She's annoys me. :)).

I got a pdf of the street fighter hex map off a webpage. I cant remember
which one.
I usually print that off on nice card stock, and cut the shape I want out of
it.
Works really well.

Also there was a capcom strategy guide for resident evil nemesis that
was done entirely in top down art, looks like the same artist that did
the top down maps in sf.

Only prob is they are smaller, since huge areas have to fit on a page.

I've been meaning to scan them and overlay a hex over them.

That's a great idea Matt, I'd definately use it. Great job on the
website also, lots of great stuff on there. I'm suprised at how hard
it is to find good top down art to use for RPG maps, now that I'm
looking for it I can't really find it anywhere.

fighter on it. it was the later version. i dont know what version it was, i think
it was street fighter ex. it had the same effects and graffics as virtua
fighter. they had guile, chun li, blanka and ken in the segment. would someone
happen to know which version of street fighter it was? like i said it had the same
graffics as virtua fighter. it was a long time since ive ever seen street

Sounds like street fighter ex. There were 3 of them (5 if you count the
three versions of ex1)

It has 3d graphics but they aren't quite on par with virtua fighter.
Similar tho.

The game itself is sub standard and not made by capcom but it can be fun
in its own little way. I have them all and still play them from time to
time.

you dont compare a hitori hanzo sword to another hitori hanzo sword.
you compare it to every other sword that has ever been made or will
be made.

same for sf games.

If I HAD to rate them on a scale of 1-10 id guess at:

7 - sf2 (all versions)
8 - sf2 the new challengers (all versions)
8 - sf3
9 - sf3 double impact
10 - sf3 third strike
7 - alpha1
9 - alpha2
8 - alpha3
6 - ex+@
4 - ex2
4 - ex3

but its really VERY subjective
2, 3, alpha, and ex are all really good in totally different ways
(well maybe not so much ex)

cool, i never knew that there were more than one version of "the new
challengers" in street fighter. i knew that there is a super street fighter II the new
challengers but i didnt know that they had different versions of it. wow
thats cool. im curious to know what street fighter 3 is like. look i have a group,
that im dieing for a street fighter topic and this would make a good start
there http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/xena-street_fighter/ . im not trying to
stear people away from this group because i like it to and thats the last thing
i would do because i wouldnt want anyone being steared away from my group.
but for those who are interested i do have my own group and i would like to have
some street fighter fans there. this like i said would make a great begining
as a topic

It would prolly be more on topic there as it is about the video games,
not the rpgs.

I wouldn't worry about stearing to many ppl away, most of the guys here
are lifers I think.

Yes there were about, oh, say 1,000 or so versions of 2, both with and
without the new challengers. Look em up on gamefaqs.com
