First off, a fact which should be obvious, the Marvel Super Heroes
Adventure Game (MSHAG) takes existing marvel characters and converts
them into roleplaying characters - giving them a short bio, stats,
skills, and powers - as applicable. Of course, you can also play a
character you have made yourself.
What is great about the MSHAG is that you can basically begin the
game as a competitor against Doctor Doom, Green Goblin, Bullseye, and
the like. When new characters are introduced into comics, they don't
come in sucking and build up from there; they start out already able
to kick ass. MSHAG feels the game should be the same way.
Of course, the downside is that this cuts down on character
development. I mean, if you can basically already start out as
powerful as you want (BASICALLY), then you rarely feel the need to
make them any stronger or give them new skills or powers. It's the
same with any game: you aren't going to aren't going to raise their
intellect if the character concept is for them to be an average joe.
As for converting Street Fighter: MSHAG has a skill called "Martial
Arts". All it does is give you more choices when attacking (in other
words, you can choose to make the action based on Strength or
Agility, rather than just Strength). Unlike Street Fighter where you
have a list of dozens of Martial Arts, with hundreds of moves. Right
now, this is our biggest challenge. We have a little bit of room in
assigning combat skills because the skills are divided by regular,
master class, and world class - but it's sometimes difficult to say
who is a better fighter than who. In Street Fighter it is a matter of
opinion who is a better fighter. In MSHAG, if you mark a difference
in skill it has a profound effect - you just doubled their options
and their damage potential. If you say they're "World Class", you
just quadrippled their damage potential.
It's hard to explain without getting into more technicalities. But
the task of converting the game to MSHAG hasn't been as easy as I
originally thought. MSHAG was designed for only a few powerful shots
and the battle is over; Street Fighter is all about the fight -
therefore there are more moves, more defined abilities, skills, and
combat techniques.
