Ok... Unique Backgrounds from the top of my head here
Dream (For those of us who have played Mage the Ascension)
Once per day (in character) you can roll Attribute + Dream as a replacement to your regular Attribute + Ability roll
1 - Vague Dreams
2 - Less Vague Dreams
3 - Vivid Dreams
4 - Lucid Dreams
5 - Total Dream Mastery
Possessed by: Shamen, Lucid Dreamers, Those touched by deep spiritual ki masters
Suited for: NAW, Kadabbi, Anyone so long as they can justify it
Epiphanies (aka Destiny)
We've all seen this before, the hero is on his last legs about to be severely beaten by the main bad guy before SUDDENLY he gets a vision of how to destroy the bad guy with the power of his friends/dog/inner training/deep spirit guide etc.
Once per life threatening major combat where the character is visably losing(ST discretion) the character may add his Epiphany Rating to his Willpower or Health bar, after describing at length what snaps him out of a losing streak, and loses this bonus after the combat finishes
So sue me, I watched Dragonball too much
Possesed By: Goku (DBZ), Yugi (Yugi-Oh)
Ideal For: Power Gamers and Anime Addicts

Well, not really. I just needed a punchy title. This is in reference to
Eric's (
eric_musashi@...) question about Unique Backgrounds.
This is a fun question, and the first good one in a long time.
Ahem. *dusts off soapbox, stands on it* Well, the first rule of Street
Fighter is to have Fun. That being said, NO, I would "never" let a Player
play a character with more than one Unique Background. Which isn't to say
that you couldn't. The Street Fighter core book has a really cool Jeff
Rebner picture of a Cyber-Gator. Obviously an Animal Hybrid, and most
likely a Cyborg. While it looks like fun, and it totally fits in to the
Street Fighter paradigm, and I *would* probably use him as a terribly
destructive NPC, I couldn't allow him as a Street Fighter Player Character.
I like to keep everyone balanced, complimentary and a of fairly low power.
You are still just men after all, and no one wants the Final Fantasy
Syndrome, where you do more damage(9999) just because everything keep
getting so much stronger. Think of it as Damage Inflation. There's more,
sure, but it MEANS less. So, anyway, I roll a D10, but have the player call
the number first. It seems harsh, but you'll still get at least one guy in
the group who will display special traits. No one gets it unless I want
them to play something special, or they get lucky. Unless you the player,
have a heartbreaking story of staggering genius(Thanks David) you get one
Unique Background per, maybe. But no more than one for
less-than-excellent-players-with-a-GOOD-story.
For the logic behind these profound truths, we need simply read from the
Book of Musashi, The God Who Walks Like A Man ("FIIIIIIST
FIIIIIIGHTING!!!!"). Look upon this, lost Eric, quench your thirst for
knowledge, and find every reason not to let PCs have more than one Unique
Background.

The whole site is this good kids, bookmark it and visit often, although I
think he stopped playing eons ago. I especially like Senor Mezcalito ...
So Eric, there's your answer(Thanks Musashi). Now here's a question for the
rest of you:
"What new and different Unique Backgrounds have you developed?"
For those of you who have no idea what I mean, Unique Backgrounds were
introduced in the Player's Guide and feature stuff like Cybernetics,
Elemental, Animal Hybrids... I've come up with a few, such as <Special>
Chi, Psycho Power, Strega(minus ten points to any one who knows what THAT
is...) and Family Fighting Dynasty. So, you have new ones, point rules,
limitations, fancy ways of drawing straws, or anything? Tell me now...
So, the question is simple, and the Admin thinks that we've been too quiet,
so let's hear what you folks have to say. "FIIIIIIST FIIIIIIGHTING!!!!"
Thanks For Playing,
AmbroseKalifornia
