Well, there are the rules for Sustained Holds, but nothing for a move that
causes so much pain that the other guy taps out because of it. Might be some
interesting things to come from that.

oh, and in the rules for my version of the five star, i forgot to add the
following.

Dam (1 level of damage done to yourself for every five feet above your
opponent, after the first.)

There were rules for Submission holds presented in the XWF supplement for
Abberant. I'll see if I can find my copy.

Ok. Heres how it should be done, and I know this will open a can of worms
around here... A wrestlers Finisher is his "Super" move. Plain and simple.
You shouldn't hook it to Will, because you can see a guy hit his finisher
out of no where, even if hes about to be beat. You can't hook it to 3/4th
loss of health levels, because you can see a wrestler hit his finisher very
quickly in a match (see DDP, for all of my fellow fans out there). Just work
it out that, after so many levels of damage have been done, they can unleash
their finishers...

Cool. I would say, if you can do more damage with a sustained hold then
their Sta, and maintain it for, say three rounds, they have to make a Sta
roll (dif 8), to not tap out.

Hmm either street fighters are just too tough and will
pass out (ala stone cold/hart) when health equals 0
without the thought of tapping ever crossing their
minds, or do a sort of willpower check if they would
go dizzy from the move to not tap. Alternatively you
could do a willpower check every turn dif 6 with each
point of damage of stamina adding 1 to the difficulty.
Um maybe spenda willpower point for an automatic
success and if you hit 0 willpower while in the hold
you tap. Only problem is it would take a lot of
rounds. But then seldom is the match in wwf that goes
under 1:30 that isn't either a squash or a screwjob.

Just my $0.02...

There's no need to make new moves for finishers. I agree with the
idea that you can pretty much fit any finisher in an established
move.

As for adding damage, I don't see the need. For example, take Rob
Van Dam and his Five Star Frog Splash. That his version of the Air
Smash. Figuring if you give RVD Athletics of 5 or 6 and Strength of
3 or 4 we're talking a min. of 12 dice dmg. Not bad for a move with
no chi/will. expenditure.

BTW, there's a wrestler in japan who uses a dragon punch-like move.
His name is CIMA and he works in Ultimo Dragon's Toryumon promotion;
his version is open-handed rather than closed.

You just summed up the whole point in your answer, man. It can
all be very nice and very fine to discuss the morals involved in
stablisihng a code of honor or notions of right and wrong, but FOR
THE SYSTEM what really matters is that Honor is a nice gimmick
to keep players in the path of good, as not having d honor atribute
would make you pratically unable to recuperate chi and willpower.

Honor is the yellow bar in the lower side of SNK's characters.
Rolling honor is when a KoF (or FF or AoF, you got d idea)
character stops to concentrate and fill it up. ;-P

And what i find funniest in some of d "arcade to rpg" polemics is
that no one has stopped to discuss that each media works with a
different scale.

In any Alpha, an unblocked Shinku-hadouken supercombo can
take 2/3 of a adversary's energy, maybe all of it if you're lucky. In
storyteller's rules, Ryu can do d same with a pair of Improved
fireballs. And he sure can throw far more than 5 in a combat
without having to "recharge".

It just came to my mind a moment ago.

Here i'll totally disagree with you, but not on a matter of absolute
Evil or Good: My problem is with the (naive but common) idea that
people's code of ethics will dictate their attitudes.
You present the idea that germans followed with many of the nazi
ideas because they felt it was right, because those in power told
so. But people do wrong even when they know it's wrong. Specially
if told to do so by majority, or a authority. D "i was following orders"
argument was not simply a wimpy excuse, it is fact. A person will
do things completely against her ethical values just she was told to
so by someone she sees as having power of command in a
situation. You are free to do wrong because d responsability (&
hence, culpability) is not yours, but of your commander...

There are a good number of sociological & psychological works
discussing this very unsettling behavioral pattern of the humans
beings. Hanna Arendt's "Banality of Atrocity" and Stanley
Millgram's "Obedience of Authority" are among the most unsettling
and direct of those.

> their own decisions as to right and wrong and this is

As i said above, if culture/religion/groupthink says wrong must be
done, people WILL do it, beside the point that
culture/religion/groupthink didn't say that you'll be right in doing that
for it. It's hard to believe a person's ethics are so weak agains this,
but they are. If you can find, get a look at the book's, specially
Milgram's work.

Well, i sure will agree with you that their backstory
stinks. Stinks like a black dragon's ass in a moonless
night, maybe even worse...

But there are some points in the whole thing that are so conflicting as to be useful.

1 - If it was found down below, inside a mine shaft, how
did anyone conclude it was a meteor, and not something
else, like a newly discovered isotope ?

2 - The "big, blue, evil glowing stone (a.k.a
B.B.E.G.S.)" was found because while Bison's men were
looking for Uranium or some other radioactive material.
Doesn't it mean the B.B.E.G.S. is radioactive ? And he
wanted this stuff for what ? nuclear reactors (i don't
remember if there was one in Mriganka) or nukes (what i
SURE remember a reference to). What if he used pieces of
B.B.E.G.S. in those missiles ? Psycho power nukes ?! ;-P

3 - In the main rulebook there's a short sequence where
Guile flashbacks about Charlie's (or Nash, whatever)
death, when Bison was dictator of some other place
(Thailand, i think). This flashback shows a scene with 2
contradictions for d price of 1: Bison draining d poor
SoB's lifeforce, and one thing Bison certainly never
showed was Leech. And he doing that YEARS (maybe a whole
decade) before his getting d B.B.E.G.S. that was,
supposedly, the source of psycho power. What do you
people say of it ?

4 - How the hell could Bison know there was something
special to the B.B.E.G.S. ? Think of it, a number of
miners & henchmen must have been in contact with the
thing before calling the boss. Why then, it was Bison
who lucked out with it ?

5 - The pieces of d B.B.E.G.S. are used by Theons as
reserves of chi and from the it's put in d game, i would
dare say those pieces regenerate their own stores with
time. It's a matter of logic: If their "chi store" were
limited (used it, throw), Bison certainly wouldn't give
away such a resource, even to his servants. So, if i'm
right and the B.B.E.G.S. "regenerates" chi. Wouldn't it
mean it is a living thing ?

6 - Still in the "living evil stone" theory... Has it
come to anyone's attention that he gives the stones only
to his theons, guys with bodies too weak for Ler Drit,
but never to d revenants, guys with mind too weak to Ler
Drit ? And how does it mix with the fact that only
revenants know the "Psycho Rage" power, that comes
naturally to them, should be said ? Does Bison fear
it might have "interesting" results on a revenant ?

7 - If Bison killed those who saw d B.B.E.G.S. in the
first place, how do we know for real it was a stone he
took out of the mine shaft ?

*adendum to question 4: It just came to my mind that
Bison's henchmen DID see something special in
B.B.E.G.S.. If they hadn't their reaction would have
been something like "Wow ! A glowing stone. We found a
white phosforus vein. Just drill it and call me when
it's over." not called for Bison to look. Wouldn't it
mean there was someother weirdness in B.B.E.G.S., beside
being a big, glowing, stone. For that matter, for
someone to get it whole, onstead of mining it bit by
little bit, wouldn't it mean it was found in a cave or
somesuch, a place where you could see the whole of it ?

I like that point of view too, specially because if he
didn't have something VERY special already, those dark
monks would probably have killed him & taken the stone
to themselves.

And then there's the point of exactly what's those monks
role in the whole matter. They taught their tricks for
Bison and seem to serve him, but Bison prefered to use
his failed Ler Drit pupils to create the Order of
Heavenly Unity (who get "powerstones", what d mark monks
don't), his media manipulation cult. Does he distrust
them for some reason ? The simple fact that no dark monk
has a powerstone would indicate that, yes, he does. Aka
Zahn, the Heavenly Unity's leader, does have a
powerstone, but i think he's probably seen as a traitor
by his old fellows monks.

The fact that Aka Zahn, a guy with 8 of focus, betrayed
his group jus to get more power, gives somewhat the
chills. Because it probably means the dark monks are
lead by someone considerably more powerful than he is.

And after all this, i would also like to comment that,
isn't it curious the monks don't seem bothered in the
least of having a bunch of nuclear silos in their
temples ? What of that, uh ?

An evil Psycho power ler drit stereotypical Miner 49'er type.

Watched a video of the experiment with the electric
shock for a wrong answer right? Yeah and something
Weber (I think) called diffusion of responsiblity too.
How people follow authority and in large groups tend
to expect someone else to take responsiblity or act.
They both make for a good explanation but you also
can't argue that had germany won the war they would be
seen as the good guys exstinguishing the evil.

Well i thought of that...
most of the finishers have a Willpower requiremnet..
like minimum 6 Willpower should keep those who would abuse the system
from doing so.

also the finishers could Wrestling Style only. so you'd have to be a
multi-styled fighter to gain that benifit. I do not fall for the Jeet
Kune Do (know-it-all style) that cannot incorperate everymove from
every style, just not logical.

same goes for Krav Maga; a much more fundimental style that in an

the art out of Martial Art. it ois a brutal offensive style, that would
destroy most others in a streetfighter setting.

enough of my rambling...

The site is horribly slow loading. I got an avarage of abbout
    150-200 bytes/sec with a max of 650 bytes/sec and 0 bytes/sec

It takes minutes for some pages to load ... but removing the java

    just a note:
Diffusion of Responsibility also applies to situations that have
    nothing to do with authority.

No, he didn't. He had seized control of Shadoloo, which were not a world-wide
criminal organization at the time, and Bison was using resources to find
radioactive materials, problably because Shadoloo's main business were with
weapons. When his men found the B.B.E.G.S, he went down, killed everybody
and came up with his mind altered and ordered the building of his base in
that exact place, as in Secrets of Shadoloo, which goes saying that Bison
builds his base above the site where he found the meteor.

I don't skate myself(but I do play Tony Hawks Pro Skater, & used to watch a
lot of skating stuff), but I think it would be a cool secondary skill or
    something.

Maybe Tony Hawk could pull off the move your talking about?

    BWAHAHAHAHA-*thunk*-heh owie!

(That's the sound of Staredown falling on his butt with laughter.)

That's just so wrong, it's right! Definitely gets my vote for best typo of the
    new millennium.

    Thanks.

Oh I think that's virtually guaranteed.

You're kidding. The thought of Zangief and T. Hawk on skateboards is one of
the few things that truely terrifies me. Well, that and finding out God sound
less like James Earl Jones and more like Gilbert Godfree.

Hmmm....it's quiet, no email from SF groups, and it's a weekend. It can only mean one thing.....Either I have somehow been accidentially been removed from the mailing list, or everyone's too (well, so am I). I hope it isn't the former.

I have partially fixed my yahoo account, now I have reset the 'junk mail' settings, and can change my password. But the  bloody thing still wants me to confirm my email addys, and refuses to send me the confirmation code.....it's been hours and I haven't received it yet. I have NOT blocked anything except junk mail. But meanwhile, I cannot access the yahoogroups files itself, and Yahoo still thinks I'm not part of the mailing list.

Alright....who's the systems admin there? I want to give him a piece of my mind.

Excellent film. One of the best cinematic translations ever. Willem Dafoe = Da' Man!
<not to mention the great cameo's by Campbell and Randy Savage.>
