two words for you:

Alternate Reality

It's a common staple of many films, novels, comics,
and (gasp!) gaming.

well first off josh, we were all throwing around our oppinions on
movies. why did you have to get all smart ass about it?

if you didnt want to here why i didnt like that movie, why did you
ask me to name reasons? just to be a smart ass to me?

it was all a big friendly chat till you got all smart ass about it.
just because we have 2 different oppinions about a movie is no reason
to be nasty.

well yes, i know its an alternate reality, but in my oppinion it is
much worse from the original sf universe. a big step down, thats why
i dont like it.

also your alternate reality argument doesnt cover reasons i listed
#s: 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 15, 16, 19, 20.

and out of the ones that it DOES cover, a lot of those i didnt
dislike because they were different. i disliked them because even for
an alternate reality i thought they were executed poorly.

why are you opposed to me having an oppinion? so what if i dont like
that movie. im probably not the only one. i certainly didnt mean for
my comment about that movie to be a personal attack on you. so dont
be so defensive. no reason to fight about it.

I WILL just name a few.

does, and hes a scientist.
2. ryu is not the star.
3. honorable ryu and ken are thieves.
4. that lame little roll chun li does to put a homing thing in a
truck.
5. senior vega
6. "They make my trains float, they make my planes float, they make
MEEEE float"
7. charlie becomes blanka, throwing blankas creation story out the
window.
8. they felt the need to stick every single street fighter in wether
the story called for them or not.
9. Honda was her fricken cameraman.
10. they all do there stupid win pose at the end for no apparent
reason
11. cammy is wearing entirely to many cloths.
12. cammy does her thigh press on backwards instead of the full on
muffocation like kekko kamen.
13. bisonopolis
14. bison bucks
15. raul julia deserved better
16. how the hell did they afford him anyhoo?
17. sagat is elderly
18. sagat is military.
19. it inspired the worst game ever. sf the movie the game.
20. the ppl who were dressed differently all "coincedentaly" end up

Subject: some question
Hello all,

i have two basics question, but i hesitate on the answer :

- first one : for a combo. the second maneuver of the combo is at +2 speed;
but the third maneuver (for a 3 combo of course) is at +2 speed too or at +4
speed?

- second one for the dim mak maneuver . If i delay the damage, lets say to
the next round for example, does the delayed damage and the damage of the
maneuver played the second turn add for dizzing purpose?

Digstown - one of my favorite boxing movies and a must if one of your players
has a hankering to play a manager instead of a brawler.

Fatal Fury 1 & 2 - I'm surprised only the movie got mentioned. FF1 does a
decent job of setting up a chronical and FF2's Krauser is the archtype (i.e. I
ripped him off) for a great many of my arch villans.

Stormriders - Really really really cool movie about elementals.

Princess Mononoke - A fun and educational movie about how to behead someone
with an arrow. :)

Pokemon the first movie - Some of the coolest fight scenes ever, the one
between the two Charzards was breath taking. Also a great source of new
attacks for your campaign.

And though I may burn as a blasphemer in Geek hell forever, it must be said:

The Phantom Menace - Very cool sword duels. Shadowmyre even created the stats
for a dual lightsabre in the WEG Star Wars RPG years before we even heard of
Ray Parks.

+2 spd is how we always handled it.

I'd make you have a dizzy combo with Dim Mak. Otherwise check for dizzy's
separately just as if the guy had been hit by two different people in the same
round without a team combo.

my interpretation of the rules is az followz.

1. second and third moves are @ +2 in a combo. none @ +4

usefull tip for newbies though is that any move after a block is @
+2. therefore, block to Whatever combos are @ +4 on the second turn
(+2 for combo, +2 for after block).

also you get the +2 block thing for any block move, even special
moves unless noted otherwise. so you could have a deflecting punch
to "" to "" and the second and third punch are @ +4. Weeee

2. damage for dizzy must be from one attack. double hit kicks and
lightning legs dont even combine for dizzy. so id say unless you
have a dim mak to dim mak DIZZY combo then the damage wouldnt combine.

I accept yer appolgy josh.
very big of you.

on a new and different note, wouldnt it be cool guys to see another
street fighter live action movie now that there are Matrix effects
and stuff? I think Jet Li and Ray Park would make a fine ryu and ken:)
the chick from Crouching tiger could be chun li, the rock would grace
it by NOT BEING IN IT. Any other votes for casting??? Let's here it..

I believe it would only work if you, say, had a Dim Mak to Jab combo (bought
to Dizzy) and you delayed the damage to the round of the Jab. I suppose the
damage of the Jab and Dim Mak could combine to dizzy no matter when the Dim
Mak damage occurs, but it would make most logical sense for dizzying damage
to need to be dealt in consecutive turns (i.e. not wait 5 rounds to add
dizzying damage together).

Both 2nd and 3rd are +2 Speed according to the book although I apparently
have a house rule on that . . .

ok , then another question ....not that i obsolutly want that it's dizzi, but i
wonder what use you can find to the delaying damage....

round 1 i use dim mak and delay damage to round 3
round 2 i use dim mak and delay damage to round 3
round 3 ...how do you deal the damage of the two dim mak? one source of damage,
as the damage came fro m the corpse, not form a blow, and then add them to dizzy
effect or still 2 separate damage source and then not adding?

And my final question then....someone found a nice ( i mean by nice not
necesseraly powerfull, but just funny) use of the delayed damage?

hmmm... maybe if we cut and paint Hulk Hogan's (or Scharzenegger or any other "big brain" bully) hair and moustache and threw him at a lion's cage just for a few moments it would be better, don't you think?

i always find its nice to hit with it and delay the damage for three
rounds. then next roiund hit with it and delay for 2 rounds. then the
round after that hit with it and delay damage for 1 round. then taunt.

its just cool.

it can also be used to cheat by hitting him say, while sparring to
warm up, then the damage hits him during the REAL fight later.

or if you know he will be doing something tedious @ a certain time in
the future it could distract him.

also a wise master could predict his house guest will try to sleep
with his daughter and hit him for no reason. then later right before
he enters sandman "whap" the damage hits to make him think twice.

also the text says it ccan have whatever additional effects your gm
allows. so anything! make like maurice jackson and cripple young boys
with it!

I love topics like this.
We all know of course too many big names can ruin a movie. I think a new
Street Fighter movie would benefit from a lot of no-namers.

Anyway, I think Jason Scott Lee would make a good Fei Long.
As a side note, I must say I'm impressed with the list activity lately.
Traffic started to dwindle over the summer. Good to see some active
discussions.

The big guy from Kiss of the Dragon would make a decent Balrog, unless
you wanted to completely sell out and recruit Michael Clark Duncan, or
Ving Rhames.

How about Russell Wong as Ryu? I was pretty impressed by his preformance in Romeo must Die. He seems kind tall and well built, and doesn't carry and over-asian look; after all, Ryu is supposed to have a German background (!). Not sure who'd be a good Ken. Who do you think could play Mr. Masters?

Not trying to sound like a smart-a$$ again, but the
whole reason behind the "stealth boat" is a little off
the wall.

Originally, the SF:LAM(e?) script called for an aerial
assault on Bison's fortress, but the Thai government
denied them the use of helicopters for military
reasons at the 11th hour. So they had to come up with
something quickly, and since Thailand is fairly
swampy, they changed it to an aquatic assault.

Also, you try casting a 7'3", 357 lb. Native
American... :P

well, someone posted the Underwater rules earlier which had the rules for drowning... that should cover suffocation which is what drowning really is. I generally just say a fighter can hold his breath stamina x 2 rounds and then he begins to lose health equal to the number of extra turns he's suffocating. so a 5-stamina fighter can hold his breath for ten rounds, then will lose 1 health, then 2, then 3, then 4, and so on.

even though its not logical, choke holds dont suffocate just deal
damage.

if they want to actually choke him out look at the "sleeper hold"
move.

Man, Wesly Snipes would wipe the floor with DeeJay while DeeJay's hands were
down his pants, LOL. What is up with that victory pose anyhow?

Agreed!

-But- how about someone who actually _looks_ like an Native American from
the SW?
Gregg Rainwater is Osage/Cherokee/Irish ... at least they could've cast
someone huge, then done what they could with make-up. It's not like he was
in a lot of scenes. And as it was, when he Guile, and Cammie got out of the
boat, he was smaller that the Shadowlaw goon he was fighting!

Ah well...

About Tyson and Balrog, there's a legend about those two:

I've heard once that Balrog were a joke upon Mike Tyson made by the
Japanese design team ( That's why his name is Mike Bison in the japanese
version ) but was dropped by the americans, that changed the name of
everybody to lose the joke.

Strange, isn't ?

Hmmm, well Mr. Jimmy aka Blanka would be brought to us by our friends at
Industrial Light and Magic. So would Necro and Oro

I actually thought the guy (wish I could remember his name) who played E. Honda
in the SF:LAM was a good choice. The only gripe I have is that he was Hawiian
instead of Japanese like Edmund H. Other than that, it was an excellent fit.

I think the hardest person to cast would be Lord Vega/Mr. Bison. How are you
going to find a guy with an 84" chest and an 18" waist in nature?

I'm pretty sure that's common knowledge. Just look at Street Fighter
one. The second character you fight is a big bloack boxer named
Mike...and he looks just like Balrog, except he smiles more. :)

But anyway, just because Balrog's stigma is based on Mike Tyson, I
certainly don't think he deserves to be in the movie

I'm sure you all know that I love the live action Street Fighter movie. (Those of you who've joined the list during my periodic bouts of inactivity, hi guys!) So in the interests of fairness, here are twenty(!) reasons why the SF:LAM movie r0x0rs your b0x0rs.

1 - Ming-na Wen as Chun Li. In tights.

2 - Good fight sequences. Ryu versus Vega in the Shadoloo locker room, especially.

3 - You can't tell me you didn't bust a gut when the Japanese UN soldiers were watching Honda and Zangief wrestle in the Bisonopolis mockup.

4 - Raul Julia. He brought a definite unhinged madness to Bison that I've always felt our favorite dictator had. A control freak who starts to lose it when challenged. Usually not challenged, so it doesn't surface.

5 - "You got paid?"

6 - Didn't cop out and resort to the same tired old "evil warlord/scientist/demonic entity/corporate CEO holds a tournament for the best fighters in the world but is merely hiding a nefarious scheme to exploit them" plot that every goddamn fighting-game movie has used since someone figured out that people would pay to see fighting-game movies.

7 - "You've come halfway around the world to fight me soldier, now here's your chance!"

8 - Bison has his plans for world domination stored on his computer. BisonOS would kick Linux' ass!

9 - Bison knows a good control scheme when he sees one. He borrowed Capcom hardware to guide his defense systems. Guess that explains how you throw a "Jab Missile" attack.

10 - Guile faking his death surprised the heck out of me.

11 - The "Good Morning Vietnam"-style radio DJ in the UN camp. "Hey, how many Bison troopers does it take to screw in a light bulb?"

12 - Most of the actors looked like who they were supposed to look like.

13 - "That's the exchange rate the Bank of England will give me after I kidnap their Prime Minister."

14 - Luckily, Dhalsim had stock footage of nice things on hand. Otherwise Blanka would have turned out really cranky.

15 - When Guile meets Blanka, his first instinct is to shoot him.

16 - Bison Troopers have cool outfits. Kinda like those old serpent commandos from GI Joe.

17 - speaking of GI Joe, does anyone other than Guile (who was faking it) get shot in Street Fighter? If not, then it's true to the roleplaying game and is probably the only fighting-game movie to be so.

18 - "For me... it was Tuesday."

19 - "No my dear, I know women... and you... are perfectly harmless."

20 - "Pigtails?"

Yes, the biggest upside to the SF:LAM. It was the first time I saw the lovely
Ms. Wen on the silver screen.

True I did like that scene. Arguably one of the best live fight scenes ever.

> 3 - You can't tell me you didn't bust a gut when the Japanese UN soldiers

I honestly don't remember that part at all. But then again, my gut is very
durable.

I admit I am hard pressed to think of someone else who can portray our favorite
megalomaniac, mentally if not physically.

> 5 - "You got paid?"

Bar none, my biggest gripe with the movie. They forced Zangief down the
evolutionary ladder and made him a simpleton. Granted the man's not Tesla, but
I've never seen any other indication that his IQ is a single digit.

True, at least they had a plausible premise.

> 7 - "You've come halfway around the world to fight me soldier, now here's

Don't remember this one either. I have to see this movie again (in much the
same way I have to watch Voltage Fighter Gowkaizer again).

> 8 - Bison has his plans for world domination stored on his computer. BisonOS
> would kick Linux' ass!

We all knew Bison was a geek. Only a geek would try to take over the world in
the first place.

Though for the record, I wouldn't mind taking a look at that BisonOS to see if
it was more inherently evil than Windows.

> 9 - Bison knows a good control scheme when he sees one. He borrowed Capcom

I did indeed chuckle at that. I was half expecting him to subject one of the
heroes to some kind of mind control device and remote control him/her with
that. Glad he didn't though.

> 10 - Guile faking his death surprised the heck out of me.

...
It did?

> 11 - The "Good Morning Vietnam"-style radio DJ in the UN camp. "Hey, how many

Good Morning Bisonopolis!

This is your rocking DJ DJ rocking you from the big gold statue to the edge of
the screen! At this time Guile (he's the big bad guy) is defying UN orders to
withdraw and is launching himself in a one man suicide mission on Bisonopolis!
Since he can't get any air support, he's trying to enter via, get this, a
stealth spy boat! Someone should have told him that he's Guile, not Bond.

Bison (our lord and master for those of you who forgot) has decided that
Guile's been such a good sport that he'll let Guile get inside after blowing up
his boat. Once inside Guile will face our glorious leader in Mortal Kombat.
Did I say Mortal Kombat? No NO! I meant, Immortal Combat! Im-Mor-Tal Combat!
Whew!

Remember, fight well! Inherit the world! If you don't, you've been payed for
the last year and a half with monopoly money! This is your Rocking DJ DJ
rocking you over to some easy listening!

*puts on the soundtrack for TMNT the movie*

> 12 - Most of the actors looked like who they were supposed to look like.

Except Raul Julia who at least acted like he should have.
And T-Hawk, though finding a person who's actually as big as T-Hawk (Native or
otherwise) has got to be almost as big a pain in the posterior as finding a man
with Bison's hourglass figure.

> 13 - "That's the exchange rate the Bank of England will give me after I

Unique at least. It may have even worked. Dumb though to try and pay them
_before_ the plan.

> 14 - Luckily, Dhalsim had stock footage of nice things on hand. Otherwise

Blanka hate puny Charlie. Blanka smash.

> 15 - When Guile meets Blanka, his first instinct is to shoot him.

When I first saw the movie my first instinct was to shoot the director.
My second instinct was to shoot Van Damm.
My third instinct was to shoot Shadowmyre for suggesting to see this flick.
My fourth instinct was to actually go gun shopping for instincts one to three.

Yep. They were the best dressed Stormtroopers in Hollywood.

Don't think so, but I've all ready stated how recently I've watched this movie.
(I last saw it in theaters)

> 18 - "For me... it was Tuesday."

Heh. Good line.

> 19 - "No my dear, I know women... and you... are perfectly harmless."

Notice how all the good lines came from Mr. Bison?

For those of you playing along at home though, never say that to anyone (girl
or guy). They will immediately whip their Shojo mallets out of hammerspace and
knock you into Low earth orbit.

Hell hath no fury like that of a mildly miffed female with a large hammer.

I said the same thing when I first saw the poster girl for anorexia.

There was this movie where 3 badguys go back in time, two heroes.
There was a Vega like character and a Dhalsim like character.
They all go back in time to be in a high school.
One of those high school students (who's supposed to be there) has a the
giant tall bun/hair thing you see in anime.
At the end of the movie, the actors actually quickchange into Dragonball
outfits while the sister transforms into her Chun Li outfit. I think one of
the badguys transformed into his M.Bison/Vega outfit.

The movie was Futurecops I believe.

I found it hysterical in the stupidest of ways.
