Sorry Scott, but I actually went to the DOW site right after I posted
the orig. post.  I was going to get on to ask you.. but I got caught
up with stuff to do.  If you want to help it'd be great, both of your
sites are incredible especially content-wise.

Just look at the string of posts following your compliment to my
site..

having many sites is what drives each one to be better.
If we just had one site there would be no friendly competition:)

plus with many sites, if a web surfer doesn't like 1 he can go to
another.

Honerable mention Pittman?  I consider your site as good as mine:)
and you skarsten, and lierbakk, and hoffman, and conkle, and
musashi,  and all of you (you most of all scarecrow).  I say so right
on my "thanks" page where I explain how we raise the bar for each
other:)
http://www.geocities.com/necro6hit/thanks.html

I like having many sites, each has a different flavor and with 1 site
theres just vanilla.  I won't contribute my conversions to anyones
site, because if you have to make your own, then theres more variety,
which is good. I like to see how other ppl convert moves and if
everyone uses mine I never would.

You want your visitors to have access to my stuff you can put a big
fat link to my page right there on yours, and I will gladly return
the favor.

I will offer you any help you want with html and layout but the best
way for you to thank us siteowners who create content is to make your
own original content for us to like.  Maybe I'll like how you convert
things BETTER than how I do.  Maybe youll think of something I've
always missed.

If you want to make a site with your ideas I'd love to see them.
If you want to make a site with "everything",,,,
make a links page.

-Matt

p.s. My site will have my own npc's moves and house rules etc... even
a couple of adventure modules.  but I have to get off my ass and
update.  Maybe if you make a killer site that puts mine to shame I
will be driven to rise from this ass of mine and update to keep up
with the pack:):)

page? Pittman, is it just me?

Also what would you guys think of a list of links in the Yahoo Groups area?
Just like the database for players, having one for links to webpages?

Thanks all,

MikeM

PS: Does anyone remember the year I actually started this list? I dont mean
in Yahoo, I mean when there was like 5 of us and we just added a new member
to our personal adress books.  For some reason I can't seem to recall. Maybe
Im getting old.

Now, what exactly would your scope and purpose for this site be? Missed the

Subject: Batobi punch.
I've got a question, but I don't really have enough info to
easily get an answer...

What is Batobi punch supposed to be?
I read its stats in some extremely long list of maneuvers,
and Batobi punch had weird stats and no description of the actual
maneuver, about what the fighter does, what it looks like, nothing.

Whenever someone makes a maneuver, they should give a description of
what the maneuver does. This is a RPG, after all, not a Statistics
Game.

Herr Tevik, who now only plays SF in his summer vacation,
and despises the idea of playing SF with cards
or even just the original rules.
Group: streetfighter Message: 11724 From: Jens-Arthur Leirbakk Date: 10/17/2001
Subject: Re: Batobi punch.
The Batobi punch is similar to the twisted lotus decapitation strike.
Actually, the maneuver itself explains what it is - the word "batobi" is
made out of two parts: "bat" is the flying rodent that we all enjoy and
love, and "obi" actually means sash. Therefore, this is the bat-sash
maneuver.

Popular with the "inner energy" style martial arts, the batobi punch uses
a hand positure similar to the plum-plucking strike (where the fist is
curled as if holding an egg - or a plum) but is a two-handed maneuvre
(i.e., that the thumbs of both hand meet, and the fists are curled, and
are palm-inward). The strike itself is a "sash" strike, meaning that the
motion begins down at the waist, moving your hands as if you're tying a
belt - or sash. When the hands meet in the bat position (twin
plum-plucking fist with thumbs pointing upwards and palm towards your
chest), you then gently breathes out while extending your arms while still
holding your hands in the bat position.

The Batobi strike is quite similar, actually, to the Chi Push maneuver,
but uses a different handset when it is executed.

... either that, or I'm pulling a fast one. Your choice, Ståle.

Aww... now see to this I am torn.  All of these wonderful 16-bit tunes are like sweet music to my ears: They bring back memories of first occurnences from the years gone by: Hell everyone realize that this is the 10 YEAR mark of Street Fighter 2?  10 years 5 months ago everyone was graced by one of the greatest games of all time, and arguably the SINGLE best fighting series ever-------> that which all others were compared against (Where's mortal kombat NOW?!!??)

Looking at all these great tunes/bgm I can't say that there is really a one that I don't like. Even the reasonably bland beats such as maybe Zangief's have gone on to be remixed/rerecorded into greatness.  I've always been partial to the fast paced beats: Blanka and Vega. If ever there was a fight and it ran intense so would you want such music playing.  The Gong of Bisons huge bell in the temple of pain will be forever remebered by those that met his wrath a first hand. The almost tranquil Music of Thailand Juxtapositioned against the cruel unyeilding fury of SAGAT. The steady beat from the showcase at the golden Nugget Casion in las vegas, and the fever paced flamenco found in the Meson de la Taberna in barcelona: This is what made me love this great game. It would be music to my ears to hear a nice solid remix of the intro song.. or for that matter any of the songs. To hear them orchestrated would be like some great right to the world. I know at least some of the tunes have been put to guitar and so forth... ahhh well. To remeber

I'd have to say M. Bison/Lord Vega's music. Because it ment that it's the
final show down between ultimate evil and whatever character you picked.

for me it depends, i take a look at the style's maneuvers... the quality of them and see if it is good balanced when compared to the other styles or not

underwater combat... for me if all opponents are underwater the speed diference doesn't matter at al... but if there is any side involved wich is not underwater, it is a whole new view... i think a -2 to -5 penalty based on the water current is good enough

have to add to this style? To others see and don´t say "Oh this too much..."
or "You forgot something where is Raging Demon?".

Another:
In underwater combat the speed penalty is?

Yup a lot. But about places? Let me see about Tibet or a far away place? We
known the major part of styles are from Asia but and the other places.

Yeah... a lot less... the water causes some very strange effects with some maneuvers too...
Maneuvers like Acid Breath, Shock Treatment, and many others will need special rulings too...
But by the other side, the jumping maneuvers could gain a very generous benefit on their movements... What do you think guys?

Subject: Martial Atrs Movies for Inspiration
Ok guys, I'm incredible bored so I pulled out my copy of Bloodsport and
started watching it to get my psyched to work on my Street Fighter
adventure.

So my question is this: What other movies would you recommend for
inspiration?

Here are a few obvious choices:

Bloodsport
Enter The Dragon
Best of the Best (Best of the Best 2 fits into the underground fighting
circuit better, but the first one was a better movie in my opinion.)

I figure discussing the movies would be a good conversation starter too.

Thanks,

MikeM

Hey, I'm new to this list and I'd just like to shout
hi to everyone. I can't believe a found a forum of
guys who still play this game!

Anyway, Bloodsport rocks (kumate, kumate!). And I
know it's obvious, but the Streetfighter Anime would
be a really good source too. The first Mortal Komabat
movie has a bunch of really cool fights that inovle
streetfighter type moves (projectiles, shadow kick,
etc). Those are just the first two that sprung to
mind.

Mortal Kombat 1 and 2
Only the Strong (Karate Kid-like movie focused on Capoeira)
KickBoxer (Old-school VanDamme)
Fist of Legend (Jet Li's best IMO)

Avoid Street Fighter at all costs of course. ;)

In Jackie Chan's
Drunken Master (the US release) he uses a maneuver that could be like Cannon
Drill.

You know anyone can pretty much use any martial art film for inspiration.

In Jet Li's Kiss of the Dragon, there is a very inspirational use of a Pile
Driver I felt. You really should see it. The only bad thing I have to say
about it is why do filmmakers seem to think that all people who go to see
martial art films are into rap. Then again, it was different than a techno
soundtrack, but I didn't much care for it. I pretty much enjoyed the movie
though and would still recommend it (if for something to do for under 2
hours if not to run out and buy).

The new show Mutant X has some very Street Fighter like martial arts (not
talking about realistic mind you).

I'd say to avoid Mortal Kombat 2 as well. Almost as bad as Street Fighter
was.

I'll add the Street Fighter 2 V series in there. The characters (Ken & Ryu
of course) start out as a pair of damn good fighters... that get their asses
kicked and go on a quest to improve their abilities. Even shows Ryu learning
how to throw a fireball for the first time. That's probably as close to an
actual Chronicle as you can find.

Lion Heart winds up being another Van Damme movie that's mostly a knock of
off Bloodsport, but does the 'underground fight circuit' thing fairly well
(As far as use in a game anyway), shows off the Mentor & Manager backgrounds
in the process.

If going for Duelists, Highlander 1, the early seasons of the series, or
Endgame are decent.

Well, the obvious answer regarding underwater fighting, would be to break
out the good ol' copy of "Secrets of Shadoloo", and read the sidebar
"Fighting Underwater" on page 48:

"Fighting underwater is not easy. There is considerably more resistance
when a fighter is trying to move through water - unless he has the right
equipment. All characters will be at -1 to Speed and Damage while fighting
in the water. Additionally, characters without scuba gear will be -1 to
Movement for all techniques.

"The Storyteller must decide which Special Maneuvers can still function
underwater. Fireballs are obviously useless, while Powers like the
Whirlwind Kick might take on new effects under water.

"A character can hold her breath for a number of turns equal to her
Stamina. She can add two turns to this for each Willpower point spent.
After that, she will lose one Health Level each turn as she begins to
drown."

Pretty much. The section on special maneuvers is incredibly vague - but
you do get the gist of how it is to fight under water in the Street
Fighter system. We're not aiming at specifics here - it's not very Street
Fighterish :-)

Yeah... a lot less... the water causes some very strange effects with some maneuvers too...
Maneuvers like Acid Breath, Shock Treatment, and many others will need special rulings too...
But by the other side, the jumping maneuvers could gain a very generous benefit on their movements... What do you think guys?

Niemand, looking at a lion shark's face... ...whoa! those teeth are... are real?

Hm...

And on top of that, some maneuvers would have different rulings for different characters. IE, Ryu or Ken's 'Blue' Fireball that isn't really fire looks like it'd have some advantage over Dhalsim's or Ryu's Red fireballs that do light somebody up. (Or would they be considered 'improved fireball?')

Then there's the 'Animal Hybrid' stuff. Is that 'electric shock' a Blanka style rub your feet across the carpet, or does he have the little gland that Electric eels have?

Jumping on the other hand ~could~ be generous, if you have something to jump off of.

If looking for mechanics on underwater movement, the Bends or Rapture or things like that, you might want to pick up Blood-Dimmed Tides. It's mostly about aquatic versions of the WoD stuff (I know, boo, hiss), but if you can get a freind's copy to a photocopy machine, it has a ten page appendix that's very general purpose for the ST system. (Swimming movement vs Athletics scores, aquatic weapons, explosions, holding your breath.)

That was covered in Jens' email.

"A character can hold her breath for a number of turns equal to her

After that, she will lose one Health Level each turn as she begins to
drown.

Drunken Master II; the Chinese release.  It had the cannon drill also. :)

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon could be a good inspiration for medeival chronicles (everyone can take Light Feet and Balance for free, heh heh heh)

actually, Jet Li's Once Upon a Time in China is also excellent for past-set chronicles.

Subject: Re: [streetfighter] Styles.

Bar none, The Quest (Van Damme version, not the one starring the kid from
ET).

The movie IS Street Fighter, sans Focus maneuvers. Not only does it have the
international fighter set up, but it has just some of the best matchups I've
ever seen. My favorite bout is capoeira vs monkey style kung fu. Watch it
twice, once in slow motion. It's incredible. The entire premise of the film
would make a pretty decent campaign in and of itself.

Inspiration:

"Grosse Point Blank"
"Fight Club"
"Savate"(lol)
"Fatal Fury" (the one about the armor of Mars"
"Iron Monkey"
"Gladiator"
"Black Mask"
"Karate Kid"

This list is for story inspiration (though some need adaptation) not
moves.

Also good inspiration is from other games. I did one where Umbrella
(Resident Evil)was a branch of Shadowloo and was using T virus and
Psychopower to make undead fighters out of fallen NPC's. They got
some new Evil Chi stuff, kinda like revanants, and were a lot
stronger. Yeah some chinese had smuggled the technology from america.
The characters started noticing ppl back in the ring after seemingly
having been killed and had to figure out what was going on. To beat
the whole campaign you eventually have to fight an undead Bruce Lee
(You shoulda seen their faces when i described them first seeing him
come through the door. all full of balefire and whatnot. I think
they messed their pants).

The other storyteller in my game, has Umbrella as yet another one of the
hundreds of evil organizations trying to screw over our world. I have some,
and he has some, making for kind of too many. However, that's gonna happen
when there are tag-team storytellers for games.

Yes, it was an HBO original, if I recall, one of those "Thursday night specials".  It had awesome fight scenes, my friend taped it while it was on.

Hey, anyone else remember the live action Fist of the North Star HBO did?  I still have that on tape, and it's great inspiration.

Also a huge movie for inspiring SF adventures (at least for me) is Guyver II: Dark Hero (Not Guyver 1 !!!)

Savate? Is that really a movie?

it has one good MA seen featuring a hit man played by some real
kickboxer. the rest of the scenes are gun scenes but to make a sf
adventure just take all the gun assassinations and make em fisticuffs.

really Great movie though!

If you're referring to the Live Action movie starring
Van Damme (who ruined it), I can think of one that's
worse. I can't remember the title of it, but it's a
HK action film in which ALL of the characters are
direct ripoffs of the SF videogame. The base premise
is: An evil warlord (Bison/Vega) and his 3 minions go
back in time to rule a post-apocalyptic world by
changing the current history. Our intrepid group of
heroes (Ryu, Ken, and Guile, all with moves intact) go
back to stop him. Unfortunately, I don't know how the
rest turned out, 'cause I saw it at a con along time
ago, but what I did see was so CHEEZY, maybe it's a
good think I don't remember much about it.
