What the hell style do you guys think Area, Volcano Rosso, Nanase,
Pullum Purna, and Shadowgeist are???

Styles that already exist or ones i would need to make up are both
valid answers.

Hopefully I'll work these guys sheets up (among other things) for my
update this weekend.

Pullum --> seems like a distorted version of Kabaddi, or maybe Silat

Volcano Rosso rulez!
He's a difficult pick.... but i think that he's a cross-breed between
styles, or a Majestic Crow (due to his violent and powerful blows)

Area --> could be a Shotokan Karate Cyborg?

Nanase --> i can't think on any style for her... (i actually can't even
remember her standing position...) ^_^

Shadowgeist --> he's our 'yeah dude! i'm the f*** villain super-style!' he
doesn't seems like any existing style to me...

That's all folks

Subject: Questions
Hi guys!

We finished our first session of Street Fighter last night, and had a blast.
A question or two popped up in the rules and in my head after we were done,
so I figured I would tap the SF braintrust.

1) How would one score a team victory on the records? A victory for
everyone standing? A Win for each member of the winning team? One K.O., or
a K.O. for each member of the opposing team laid out or what?

2) I'm not terribly sure how White Wolf handles this in other games...but
are backgrounds meant to be purchasable after character creation...or simply
added and taken away as the Storyteller decrees during the game?

3) Moves like Air Throw and Air Suplex seem to be limited...in that you have
to have reason to believe the opponent is going to be in the air before you
select this move...and it's insane to declare the Air Throw as your attack
"just in case", because of the Willpower expenditure...while Air Suplex's
speed seems to not make it very practical. Any thoughts?

4) Has anyone developed a system for cross-style training? More than one
fighter has multiple styles, such as Ler Drit/Kabaddi, for instance. And
The Perfect Warrior says Master Xaudo will teach the Rising Storm Crow to
one of the players, though preferably a Kung Fu stylist...when by the letter
of the law, it would HAVE to be by a Kung Fu stylist, considering Majestic
Crow and Kung Fu are the only styles that can learn it. One a related note,
a five-dot sensei says "A true master also has a smattering of moves from
other styles as well." So, like I said, anyone have a system for learning
moves normally forbidden?

I think that covers it for now...thanks for any help!

Well, you don't play them unless you're interrupting someone. So if you're
speed comes up, you just don't do anything (don't need to spend will if
you're doing the maneuver). The way we play, you can simply default to take
the movement on the attack in this case, do nothing, or abort to Block when
your speed comes up.

Yes, I think many people do. I'll e-mail you mine.

The way we do it is like this: If team A beats team B, everyone on team A
gets one win added to the records. Not a win for everyone knocked out, just
one for the fight. Even if a member of Team A gets knocked out and his team
beats the others, the K.O'd guy from Team A still gets a win in the record
books. We ignore K.O for team fights.

We never purchase backgrounds in WW games. We gain and lose them according
to the story.

Well, actually, that depends. Personally, I go for the 'one win per bout'
rule-of-thumb, but I did a couple of exceptions for - for instance - bouts
where my 'fighter fought several lower-ranked opponents at the same time.
Incidentally, the character was rank 5 at the time, and I fought two 2nd
rankers. Jean-Jaques won, but it was a close call ;-) Ph34r my 1337
Cartwheel Kick ;-)

> 2) I'm not terribly sure how White Wolf handles this in other games...but

Both. Backgrounds can be bought with experience - or increased through
experience - but only with the express permission of the GM. My main
character, Jean-Jaques had a Resources 5 background. I then made a
detailed writeup of a corporation, a handful of NPCs in that corporation,
a few adventure hooks, and then played some of this out in a scenario.
After the GM approved, I was allowed to increase the Resources background
to 6. Same goes with other Backgrounds - if you make an effort with your
character to get a specific background, or that the GM announces that a
specific background is available (either at a cost, or for 'free'), then
you're allowed to take it.

Personally, I sometimes announce that, for instance, characters with
Resources are now free to increase them at, say, double XP cost if they
haven't been very good at managing their money (but have won/'liberated'
significant funds), at the straight cost if they've been working for it,
and perhaps at a discount if special plot considerations warrant it. Same
goes with things like Sensei and Ninja Clan Heritage, for instance.
Cybernetics tend to pop up after really nasty fights involving large,
sharp objects ;-)

Both yes and no. The Insight ability is very useful in this case, because
a successfull Perception+Insight might allow a character to divine a few
of the combos of the opponent - or, in the case of a recurring opponent,
learn it the hard way. Thus, you might know (or, rather, your character
might know) that a specific character may have a Block - Jumping
Roundhouse combo that sees a lot of use. Thus, you may choose Air Throw /
Air Suplex after the opponent has blocked, knowing that it quite often
results in a Jumping maneuver afterwards.

Incidentally, Jean-Jaques was Air Thrown once. I was 1st rank, and had one
combo I used a lot - Jump to Cartwheel Kick. The third time I used it, the
other PC hammered me. After that, I was initiated into the Eight Skilled
Gentlemen, and we did the good fight :-)

Both yes and no here as well. Though the Dogs of War homepage offers a
background to govern it, I'd be more inclined to let the GM decide. It
almost popped up in a tournament I ran - the Millennium Warrior Tournament
- where the winner might be invited to train with the Golden Fist Dojo
provided the winner won honorably. A PC did win, but not honorably by any
stretch, so it didn't pop up. I had decided how to do it, however.

The Golden Fist Dojo had three things to offer.

* Training in punching (technique) up to **** at a reduced cost - they
are famous for their punching ability.

* Training in Power Uppercut (maneuver) at a reduced cost - that
particular maneuver has an Any cost, so that isn't hard.

* Training in their signature maneuver, if the character had distinguished
himself particularly favourably. The signature maneuver is, obviously, The
Golden Fist - similar, but not exactly the same as the Dragon Punch.
Though I had decided it would cost 4 PP for Karate, I had also decided to
invoke the JKD special in case someone else won the tournament other than
the karateka - for one extra power point (and an Insight+Perception or
Style Lore+Perception roll), the 'fighter would be allowed to understand
the training involved in learning the Golden Fist.

I feel that Style Lore and Insight are abilities that are often
overlooked, and I try and incorporate useful information that can be
garnered through those abilities. For instance, performing a pattern
(karate: kata, TKD: tul) is usually a Charisma+Style Lore test in my
campaign, as the techniques themselves are considered to be executed
properly when the character possesses those techniques - it is the
performance that counts.

Incidentally, the Millennium Warrior Tournament had a kata event as well.
An NPC won (Derek Blue Raptor), with two PCs coming second, and one of my
PCs finishing fourth.

Hi all,

Im in the process of updating the format and content of nearly every
part of my page right now as some of you may know.

Could you all help me out by visiting:
http://www.geocities.com/necro6hit/Akuma_sheet.html
and telling me if akumas sheet looks ok in your browser?

Also state what type and version of browser your using please.

Im just trying to see what works best for EVERYONE before changing
over all the sheets on my site.

You will need Arial and Arial Black fonts to view the typeface
properly but most computers already have that. If you dont you can
get them from my page in the downloads section.

Thanks,
Matt

p.s. spacing may be a little off because of the nature of html
tables. thats ok, Im talking about BIG problems viewing it.

p.p.s. Would you guys be interested in the javascript i made to help
me write sheets like this? I could zip it with the needed images and
distribute it. Just type into a form the info on your character and
presto.

Well then please read my strategy again. In the second one I sent
you there was something specific I didn't want to do if we started
with full willpower each time. It was just an instruction i added to
save willpower (Step 2a I think).

That last fight it did not appear like that step was removed. I think
I'd have done better if the willpower saving step would have been
removed. (maybe even another perfect! lol)

Sorry to trouble you,
Matt

P.S. Please do not reply to me with any part of my strategy. as it
will probably be sent to the whole group by accident:))

New topic that's bugging me...

Does anyone know of any decent software to generate some good hex maps with?
I dig the Street Fighter combat system and all, but I so totally stink at
mapmaking, it's unreal...and I'm thinking every interior looking like the
5th floor of the Palace hotel and every arena looking like Balrog's would
get old fast...

Any help?

Rinaldo,

Does there have to be so many diffrent npcs to fight against? I count at least 17 - 18 of them so far mentioned, and only about 13 players (of the fights I have gone over so far). How many players are there compared to the number of npcs?
I can only speak for myself, but I think player vs. player bouts are a lot more fun to read than npc vs. npc or player vs. npc.
Still, no complaints - for someone who puts so much of thier time into the tournament like you do, you deserve to run the bouts any way you please!

If so here goes my char description

Jimmy Ling is a tall, slender guy but with a well-built body and appears 21 years of age. wears a light grey jogging pant with one red stripe in each leg, one saying "No Fear" and a long sleeve shirt (actually the sleeve is longer than his arm and a way larger too) with red trims on the sleeve's end. If you can get a clear sheet of plastic (most office supply stores carry these) the same size as a sheet of typing paper, photocopy the blank grid in the street fighter book onto it. Then you can take a picture of nearly any floor plan and make a hex map of it by laying the plastic over it. You can even use diffrent textures such as plywood, a desk, various notebooks, etc to give very diffrent feels to each fight.

Well, since the overwhelming majority want The Pride back, and since Dustin
hasn't chimed in with a 'Oy! I'm still here and I'll get Warrior's Pride back
up and running soon.', I'll assume editorial duties for Warrior's Pride (boy I
know I'm going to regret this...)

Things will be slightly different than when Dustin was running them though, the
biggest I think is that I lack Dustin's skill with (and access to) Word, so I
won't be doing .doc editions of issues. If some worthy on the list takes it
upon themselves to make them though, I won't complain.

On the other hand, I will be doing .html and .txt versions of the issues.

Submissions: Pretty much anything even remotely related to the SF:STG will be
accepted. Pictures and other image files should be in either .jpg or .gif
format. Text submissions should be in either .txt or .html formats. Be sure
to state whether or not you want your e-mail to be listed in the contributions
section.

Submissions should be sent to sfstg@... with Warrior's Pride in the
subject line. This will be the permanent e-mail address of Warrior's Pride and
should the editorial position change again, I'll give the new editor the
password and other things they need to know.

On a related note, if you have a SF:STG webpage you plan on taking down soon,
please consider submitting your work so that it is not lost in the current and
eddies of cyberspace.

Some of you may have noticed an article called 'Legends of the Circuit' in a
few of the Warrior's Pride issues.  I'm not sure if anyone read them, since
the only comments I ever got were from a few individuals I vaguely remember
coercing.

I have considered continuing the series in the "new" Warrior's Pride, but
first I want to hear from my fans- if I have fans that is.

A simple task: any one on this list can save (or kill) my fiction submissions
simply by voicing their opinions now.  Don't be shy.  I promise NOT to blight
my critics.

I am willing to write for the minority of people, but if no one wants to read
my work, I will not be contributing fiction.  This will not affect any plans
I may (or may not) have to write new styles/moves/NPCs/gadgets/etc....

I will be receptive to all comments, on- or off- list.  But if no one
comments I will take the hint and stop submitting fiction to Warrior's Pride.

Subject: [streetfighter] The Return of Warrior's Pride

Me, I actually read those things. I enjoy things that aren't necessarily
directly game-mechanic related. I might be strange that way, but I don't
believe that all stuff for a game needs to for instance boil down to a
couple of (usually overpowered) maneuvers or a new (usually kung fu
related) style.

I enjoyed the Legends of the Circuit, and I'd hate to not see you continue
writing those.

Hi guys, it's me again.

Someday, I promise to try to actually contribute to the list, but for the
time being I need a bit more advice.

I was reading someone's theory on advancing NPCs so they don't remain in a
bubble while the PCs get stronger, but I had a question: Since I doubt you
guys boost all the NPCs in your game and all the World Warriors every time,
what system do you use to decide who gets a share of the experience and who
doesn't? Just folks involved in the immediate adventure? Folks you're
planning on using? Both? Luck of the draw?

Just some curiosity...

Thanks!

Thank you.  All of you.  I'm glad you enjoyed them.

One of the things I promised myself when I began the series was that I
wouldn't just repeat nothing but World Warrior stories and "secret origins".
This has left me stumped for ideas occasionally, and may have resulted in an
over-emphasis on mysticism, but I think it keeps things from becoming
repedative.

Incidently, I have a special story planned that deals with a certain World
Warrior's secret origin (hey, I've got to do some...).

Thank You for your support!

I have no hard and fast rules for npc advancement but,
rule of thumb I go by is:

Only advance an NPC if the pc's will see them regularly.

If your gonna work your way to world warrior status and THEN see the
world warriors ONCE at a tournament, I just assume they were worse
before and they progressed to their current sheet.

For ppl your PC's will encounter frequently, and therefore notice any
improvement or lack thereof, I just progress them enough to keep it a
challenge..

an important thing to remember too is to build the npc's the same way
as your pc's are built. What I mean is,, If your PC's are well
rounded and have a lot of skills and things that are non combat,
social attributes have been raised etc.. and they have earned thusfar
(for example) 40 EP, then build NPCs who are likewise well rounded.

otherwise its like: "Well you guys have 40 EP so Ill make all the
npcs in the tournament have 30, so its fair" Then you dump all 30
into combat related stuff instead of spreading it around like your
PCs and your PCs get the crap kicked out of them. (while this IS fun
for the GM, most players dont like to get the crap kicked out of them
all the time [unless they're into SnM and their opponent is a hottie])

This also works in reverse as a way to lead by example.. If your PCs
ONLY spend EP on combat related stuff, have some NPCs totally show
them up at some skills outside the ring. Your PCs will get sick of
this and buy more abilities, and presto, your players are well-
rounded.

Well, in my campaign (SF;: Tien Tao), only those who participate in a
particular scenario are awarded experience points - and any special
backgrounds and so on. However, in order for other PCs not to lag
hopelessly behind, I've instituted the 'Training' rule.

In short, PCs that aren't participating, are assumed to be training. This
nets them 2 xp per month gametime that passes. This ratio can of course be
adjusted based on your own campaign, but I've found that this particular
ratio works well in my campaigns. A typical scenario I run stretches for
about two weeks gametime, and nets the PCs 4-5 xp. This insures that PCs
that do participate get more XP than those who does not - but those who
does not participate don't lag hopelessly behind.

I've also on occasion granted particularly weak PCs a one-time bonus of,
say, 8 xp just to get them nearer par for that particular scenario.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it.
To me, the lamest part of SF:STG was the time it took to do what the
script does.

As far as contenders goes, if you mean sending me a combat chart for
each contender then YES I'd appreciate it:)

The way I was going to do it was to make them as-is (with
the "dhalsim" feature off) then turn him on and also save the version
he corrects. so each character would have 1 sheet as they appear in
the book and 1 that actually follow the rules of prerequisites.

Later,
Matt
www.geocities.com/necro6hit

p.s. next version of the script should have custom moves (spaces for
you to insert ones you made up) and weapon strikes for every weapon.

You have got some good
points there, herr Matt.
-In a campaign, a ST ought
to create encounters where
other skills than fighting
are needed, so the players
will remember, and try to
improve their PC's abilities
as well as fighting skills.
In my Oriental fantasy campaign,
I believe the stealth skill
is the highest non-combat
attribute among the PC's,
due to asassination missions....

I will think of this
more consciously in the future,
it might become strongly supportive
of the roleplaying experience.
-could even make the world seem
more real. However, I do not like
to carve into stone what this and
that NPC knows, other than fighting,
and instead I give them groups of
knowledge that is easily (for me)
associated with the character.
Why I usually only process their
combat stats is because this is
the only thing that needs be
guided by a system, IMO.

In my case I do both. Pretty much any NPC that's attached to a PC somehow
(ally, spouce, manager, etc.) will be constantly updated, as will any major
nemesis of the PCs. Others, I just update when there's a chance that they'll
appear in my stories.

Personally I like your latest one (about the daughter of the forest) was your
best one.  It's my favorite because it's not something you'd ever find in
one
of my campaigns.

Thank you.

If that's your criteria, what else would you never find in your campaigns? ;)
I loved writing that one, murder, monsters, good old Celtic myth, and
mention of an NPC I really want to use sometime (and its not anyone from the
story itself...), but I was worried it was a bit... out of the setting.  I'm
working on balancing the setting and my own leanings, but it takes time.

I go to work on the next legend.

Subject: Few more questions after the last game session...
Hey guys, it's me again...

You all have been a major help since I signed onto this list, I want you to
know. And now I need a bit more help on rules clarification...=P

1) If an opponent moves in to attack, say with a Double-Hit Kick, can you
either interrupt or abort to jump away safely? Or is jumping only useable
as a defense against projectiles?

2) Would the following be a legal teamwork maneuver? Temogen, a Wu Shu
stylist, snatches a gangster and throws him backwards. As he's sailing
through the air, but before he lands, Christian Tremaine, a Muay Thai
kickboxer and Temogen's teammate, interrupts and smashes the gangster with a
Flying Knee Thrust. Would the attack do the damage of both moves? Would
Tremaine remain unscathed?

3) Another example I'm curious as to the legality of: Grey, a Special Forces
Fighter, is facing Pantara (from the rulebook). Pantara attacks with a
roundhouse, and Grey wants to Abort or Interrupt into a Jump, jumping over
her and landing behind her. Would that qualify for a valid defense? Or
could Pantara simply turn and kick the crap outta him when he lands?

4) Finally, a Sanbo wrestler leaps into the air for an Air Smash, so
Christian Tremaine interrupts and hits with a Flying Knee Thrust. Since the
Flying Knee Thrust is an aerial maneuver, it should still hit...but would
the wrestler be Knocked Down? Would Christian still take damage from the
Air Smash?

These were all situations that popped up in last night's session, btw..=P

Thanks for any help, guys...
Tommy
