Hey--

Really excited about seeing a pic of Cross... this is NOT a rush or a
demand. :)  I'm just wondering if the pic was ever done... or if I'm
just not seeing it on your page. :)

Thanks a lot!

In that last post I said that Yun and Yang were twins. I made a mistake. While it is often thought that they are twins, in more than one place it makes Yun the older of the two by a few years... That is even listed in the SF3 manuel.

Lee always struck me as a Tae Kwan Do stylist.
I can't believe that style never found it's way into any of the official
Street Fighter STG sourcebooks.

Not me Sorry.

I agree that joe is a kickboxer and that Geki is a ninja.

I do not agree on eagle and retsu though.
As far as I remeber Eagle used 2 sticks ashis combat weapons.
I figure he has something similair to Arnis.
And I do not beleive that Lee is Chun Li's father.
The other one is that Gen Is Lees fathe, and that Yun and Yang are Gens
grandchildren. Its good to see Every person in China is related.

As for Retsu I dont think he is a shotokan fighter.
Ive been trying to figure out monastic styles of hand to hand combat in
Japan. The closest I got was Shorinji Kempo.

Of course Retsu is a shotokan fighter. He studied below Gouken with Ken and
Ryu. That and his costume is that of a traditional Shotokan stylist.

Read his story here:
http://www.videogames.com/features/universal/sfhistory/char_retsu.html

As for the rest in my opinion:

Geki is obviously a ninja
Joe is a western kickboxer
Mike is (or was intended to be) Balrog
Birdie is a Brawler. The cloest thing SF:STG has for him I believe is
Wrestling.
Eagle is trained in Special Forces
Lee being Gen's son is a Kung Fu fighter.
(ealier I said he resembled a Tae Kwean Do fighter, but forgot that he has
indeed Gen's son and that the graphics in SF1 were too poor to allow for
great animation :P )

"Its good to see Every person in China is related."

Funny thing is, that's not too far off the mark. Visiting Xuzhou for my
sister-in-law's wedding left me with the impression that it's like the
Ozarks over there. My wife's family was either related to or friends with
everyone we met. She has more cousins than she even remembers, and between
family and friends we didn't have to pay for nuthin'. It's rather nice
having one of the city's judges take you on a tour of its landmarks. :)

Ok look I hate to break it to you but that information is hardly official.
Ive seen that site as well. They also claim that Guy Trained with Gouken.
And we know he didn't. Now if you want further proof, Capcom had pictures
drawn of all the original street fighters. It was For SFA. Anyways, if you
look at his uniform in this picture, it is not the same uniform that Ken and
Ryu have.

I fully agree that videogames.com is an informative site. There info on the
game and the way it was designed is interesting. But the storys they have
for the characters hardly qualifies as official since there is no basis for
it and there are obviously mistakes.

If you guys want another story Idea heres one for you.
Vega was a student of Geki, (Im really surprised no one's thought of this)
They both study Ninjitsu and They both use a claw for a weapon.
In fact how do we know that Geki and Vega arnt the same person.

If you havent registered a yahoo id, go to www.yahoogroups.com and there
should be a button where you login like egroups did and it registers you
with yahoo. Youll have to create a new id again. But once you do that, you
will be able to access the groups like you used with egroups.

Let me know where you run into problems, and Ill see what I can do.

yes its unnofficial but that doesnt mean everything there is wrong.
(videogames.com)

Yes it's true that not everyone in china is related but that doesn't
mean gen lee yun and yang arent.

I would be really interested to know where vg.com got its info too.

I think the truth is capcom doesnt even know.. They just made a
bunch of shit and ppl liked it so they got more serious, leaving the
earlier shit still half-assed (story-wise).

I think they just put out games without regard to the story, or
perhaps its all alternate stories (like the different versions of
tenchi or a-ko that have same characters but different stories and
worlds) Hell Bison explodes at the end of alpha 3. And Is destroyed
by akuma in the end of SF2. How many lives does this guy have? that
and why would ppl like ryu who had learned so many moves by the end
of alpha forget half of them in 2? Prequell syndrom.

The only thing thats official is released by capcom and some times it
contradicts itself or just has gaps and doesnt explain ANYTHING
(anyone know just what the hell gill wants anyway???) So the only
conclusion to be drawn is the story is up in the air and you should
make it however you want it in your world.

(White wolf didn't really help the story prob with their meteor
etc..what happened to "hes just an evil psychic guy?")

Lets quit fighting about it

If you wanna say how things are in your campaign is one thing but
capcom themselves dont know the damned story so lets not argue over
what it "officially" is.

Its like a fairy tail, ppl only remember the most basic story
elements and the details get changed as time goes on.

This is ok because the basic story is good and the details don't
matter. Im convinced eagle will crack you upside the head just as
fast if hes a police special officer using special forces training
and batons as he would if he were a special agent using arnis and a
pair of escrima sticks.

-Matt
www.geocities.com/necro6hit

P.S. And by the way, you cant judge a persons style by his
uniform. "Traditional shotokan uniform" is a gi, the same thing as
the uniform of aikido, judo, rindokan karate, okinawan karate,
brazilian jiu jitsu, shin shin jiu jitsu, small circle jiu jitsu,
The list goes on, and by the same token, there are a million or so
varients on the gi so if someones looks a little different doesnt
mean they're NOT the same style.

P.P.S. I dont think vega and geki are the same person but nice story
idea to run with. Am i the only one here whos thought that Akuma
might just be ryu's dark side? the guy constantly struggles not to be
evil ryu, like akuma wants him to be . maybe its like a jeckyl hyde
and it was He who killed his master. The transformation is horrific
and ken couldnt be sure what he saw. sure it goes against akumas
background but did we here that from capcom? no, we saw it on a
website or read it in a magazine or heard it from a friend. we dont
know jack. thats a fun one to mess with.

That might be cultural,
pointing to social standing,
as we have titles that
mean Uncle, Big brother,
Little brother and Father
in our Kung Fu tradition
(Imoa Shantung Kun Tao).
I suppose Mr. Karstensen
could clear this out?

Why fight over cheese?
(get a knife and cut it)

What is Real and Not
is totally up to the
GM, obviously,
as people are killed,
only to reappear (prequel syndrome, as mentoned earlier)
--ho is who's father
arranged from game to
game after what the
publishers feel is convenient
at the moment, and suchlike.

It seems we have a gameworld (RPG)
material that needs to be stitched
and cut to fit individually...

Makes it only a wee bit harder to be
a GM, mostly if you have a large
number of players.

I don't follow your logic Rob.  I seen nowhere on the site where it says that Guy trained with Gouken. It only lists his traditional Students : Ryu, Ken, Retsu, and for a short time Dan.  Please show me what inconsistencies the site has given to disacredit itself. I have checked in on the site for some time, and to be honest I forgot which one this was. There was a SF archive at Fighters.net that had taken a lot of creative liberties in listing the backgrounds, as do most sites.  But the Videogames.com site is from what I can tell stays very honest, and doesn't seem to try and re-write much. It's also very non-comitting in the presentation of some of the more popular theories/rumors about the fighters. Rathar than saying this IS what happend, they tend to say this is what MIGHT have happend.  That's the best way to approach SF's variable/incomplete/inconsistant history anyway.  Out side of some Hypothosizing about Bison+Rose, and a little creative licencing with the rise to power of Balrog,  I can find no flaw in thier logic.
Please help me understand your Point of Veiw.

thug) in one punch in one of the books. He may even be a boxer.

That's the idea. Nobody knows. Not even him. He woke up, having no
memory of who he was or where he was going. He does not remember
getting the tattoo; he took up refuge with Master Takashi in
California to figure out what to do next; at his mentors' urging, he
went out into the world to discover his past. It is odd that of all
things, he remembers how to fight- very well, in fact. ;)

Noteable moves: Scissor Kick; Crouching Fierce

Other notes: I've had different ideas for his real origin. A while
back, I posted the idea of a reformed 'Ler Drit' fighter, and got
some cool responses. Also, I came up with the idea that he is indeed
the personification of justice that came to be when a small cult of
clergy prayed out of a need for a champion to deliver them from
evil... who really knows, though? ;)

OH YEAAAHH.
I remember that, I forgot that was you.

i think i said something like "Bison would never train someone with
any capacity to reform" but thats just my oppinion.

So cross is an evil ler drit guy huh...

I think i'll draw a picture of him as bisons right hand man in a
bison-esque outfit.

I had a player playing an ex shadowloo person with amnsia too. a
special forces chick named jazz. funny thing is she could only
remember glymses of her past and all of shadowloos super-technology
(she was a shadowloo test pilot) so she was convinced she came from
the future in her crashed plane (thats how she got amnesia). Everyone
thought she was crazy and she was a pretty funny/interesting
character. ("SUUUUURE your from the future, we believe you jazz.
Have you taken your meds today? maybe you should lay down for a
while...")

Ok Andy I know you got your info from that website, but retsu is not a
Shotokan fighter. There is no proof of that anywhere in the games.
Or even from capcom.

I got no problem if you guys like to use this stuff for your games, its up
to you, its your game.
But you write it like its true. Is there any reason for that?

Actually, the talk about crossing over SF with the Aeon Continuum, well
I've given it some thought.
Although not to useful at the present moment, I think Street Fighters
will probably conform better to the Paramorph's of Adventure than the Novas
of Aberrant.
Paramorphs apparently are going to reflect the cinematic nature of such
pulp heroes as the rocketeer, Indiana Jones, and the shadow.  That seems
about right for Street fighter games I think.
Not saying there wouldn't be nova Street Fighters (blanka and Zero for
example spring to mind as possible low level novas), but on the whole I don't
think a Street Fighter would be either Psion or Nova.
Although Rose and Bison would certainly work as Psions, and perhaps Ler
Drit is a martial art designed to awaken one as a Psychomorph.

Actually, I decided against Ler Drit for that very reason. :) He's
Jeet Kune Do... but that doesn't mean that he couldn't have once been
a Shadoloo agent. ;) Not that he would know anyhow.

Good point; I recall someone else on the list trying to make a SF via
the Nova chargen, and only having something like 10 Nova points
needed to do so. Paramorphs are probably closer to the mark... I'm
SUPER EXCITED about Adventure (just in time for my birthday!).

I guess I should add to that... if someone were to make a Styles

bit different.

Have you taken your meds today? maybe you should lay down for a
while...")

Ryu: The newest Gateway has begun, and you all know what that means...

Vega: Another MST3K waste of bandwidth!

Ken & Ryu: Gah! You again! I thought we were suppose to get E. Honda this time
around.

Vega: He's busy with his guru gig over at truemeaningoflife.com, so he called
me up and asked if I could take his spot.

Ryu: Wait a minute! Since when are you and Honda so close?

Vega: You wouldn't believe how corrupt the Sumotori circuit has become. Best of

Ryu: What?

Vega: Out with it, Masters.

Ken: Well, do you think that, maybe, Khali's throwing the fight?

Vega: Hrmmm. Fits the facts. I think you're on to something. Good work, Ken.

Ryu: But why would he do that?

Vega: Same reason he's going for all those grabs. Besides, you can't get a date
with a pretty girl if you've just beaten the snot out of her. Well, *I* can,
but it's a trick most other people just can't pull off.

Ryu: I don't get... Oh! I see.

Ken: This, boys and girls, is called Enlightenment, with a capital 'E'.

Vega: But can he tell us why toast always lands butter side down?

Ryu: ...

Ryu: No.

Ryu: But you forget that Artemis also did a no-damage maneuver back in move
eight.

Ken: That doesn't count.

Vega: It was a jab and they aren't suppose to do damage.

Vega: It does, however, lead us to one inescapable conclusion.

Ken: Rinaldo really needs to take a sledge hammer to his dice.

Ryu: I recommend a twelve pound sledge to really powder them, though a ten
pounder'll do in a pinch.

> Move 12- Artemis Steele try to make a Roundhouse Kick but Khali is more
> faster and block for combo with this Khali receive: 2 points of damage.

Ken: Lets take score here and see how much damage has been done.

Vega: What purpose would that serve?

Ryu: It's something to do. And I forgot my gameboy.

Vega: True enough. All right, they've both taken seven points.

Ken: Well, that killed a lot of time.

Vega: Now THAT was interesting. I'm gonna have to talk to that boy

Ryu: HEY KHALI!! AFTER THIS FIGHT, RUN AND DON'T LOOK BACK!! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN
GOOD!!

Ken: Ryu! Shut up. You're gonna make him loose the fight!

Ryu: Like he needs help doing that.

> Move 14- Artemis Steele make a Short Kick and Khali block for his combo and
> Khali receive: 3 points of damage and Khali is dizzy!!!

Ken: Dost mine ears deceive me? Did someone breach the unbreakable two point
ceiling on damages?

Ryu: Yeah, and dizzied him to. Note to all street fighting newbies. Stamina of
less than three is very very bad. No matter how fast and strong you are, you
are going to get hit eventually, and you'll need that stamina to stay in the
fight.

Ken: It's not so bad if you're an astronomy major.

Ryu: Huh?

Ken: You'll see a lot of stars.

Vega: Ba Dum Dum

Vega [shoots a look at Ryu]: No way.

Ryu: What?

Vega: Now I really want to see this fight end.

Vega: I do not believe it. I DO NOT GODDAMN BELIEVE IT!!

Ryu [edging away]: What!

Ken: 'Concentration is the key to victory.' Ryu, since when do you spout
prophecies.

Ryu: Not me! Nope! I didn't get sucked to El-Hazzard and get this stupid
prophecy power! Not me!

Vega: Well, there goes my psychic monopoly in this game.

Ken: I don't get it. I mean can you imagine what an edge it would be to be able
to predict you're opponent's every move in advance. You'd be unstoppable.

Ryu: Forget it. Prophets are always stuck in support rolls. I'm the HERO
dammit! You're the meglomaniacle villain, you're my faithful sidekick/buddy and
I'm the hero and by Capcom that's how it's going to stay.

Vega [a tear in his eye]: Villain?

Ken [a gleam in his eye]: Sidekick?

Ryu: Uh-oh [makes tracks for the next continent]

Ken: Ryu old buddy old pal, get back here so I can make you swallow your own
teeth! [pursues Ryu]

Vega: *sniff* I though *I* was the hero. [teleports out]

[teleports out]

strong you are, you are going to get hit eventually, and you'll need
that stamina to stay in the fight.

Ken: 'Concentration is the key to victory.' Ryu, since when do you
spout prophecies.

Ryu: Not me! Nope! I didn't get sucked to El-Hazzard and get this
stupid prophecy power! Not me!

Vega: Well, there goes my psychic monopoly in this game.

Ken: I don't get it. I mean can you imagine what an edge it would be
to be able to predict you're opponent's every move in advance. You'd
be unstoppable.

Ryu: Forget it. Prophets are always stuck in support rolls. I'm the
HERO dammit! You're the meglomaniacle villain, you're my faithful
sidekick/buddy and I'm the hero and by Capcom that's how it's going
to stay.

Vega [a tear in his eye]: Villain?

Ken [a gleam in his eye]: Sidekick?

Ryu: Uh-oh [makes tracks for the next continent]

Ken: Ryu old buddy old pal, get back here so I can make you swallow
your own teeth! [pursues Ryu]

Vega: *sniff* I though *I* was the hero. [teleports out]

Subject: Javascript Chart generator
Hi all.
I recently found some problems with that Javascript chart generator I
made.

It's availiable at www.geocities.com/necro6hit or in the files
section of the group at Files > Matt's > Script

(Do any of you guys even use it? I get very little feedback)

Untill I get a chance to fix it in the next version (soon) be aware
of the following problems:

1. "Dhalsim" the script checker doesn't check prerequisites for
Blocks.

2. Some moves from "Shades of Gray" never got finished, meaning they
are calculated at +0 speed, damage and move, and they have
no "system: " text. These moves are Faceslam, Forward Backflip Kick,
and Flying Tackle.

3. Script does not show your elemental rating @ the bottom with the
rest of your stats.

Now that I know of these bugs I will work to fix them promptly (shame
on you guys for not reporting them)

Hey - I think the generator is awesome, and should be used by just about everyone out there who runs the game. Any Storyteller should be more than thankful to have a way to instantly calculate stats for non-player characters.

I'd use it if I didn't have them all committed to memory. *whistles innocently*
