Oddly enough, a number of writers and developers that post to
alt.games.whitewolf have shown interest in supporting the line, but can't
due to legal reasons. However, I'd highly doubt that they'll ever give the
book away like that. Unfortunately, it too closely mirrors the systems in
their core gamelines. Add to that their release of WoD Combat which has the
rest of the SF system, and they loose money from sales there as well. (And
take note, RPG companies are not the most lucrative of buisnesses. Even
small amounts of lost profits hurt.)

Subject: Weapons
Attachments :
The players and storytellers and players in my game have long since had a
problem with the weapons list as presented in Contenders. The obvious lack
of accounting for any winding time or reach in their weapon speeds along
with the ludicrous idea of using extra movement instead of reach. I've
attached my Revised Weapon List for your consideration in HTML format.

Also, for your amusement, here is something sent by a friend of mine (I
    think it's pretty neat):
Here is the 1st draft of the heavy blunt objects table ("Scott Reinhart"
    <scott_reinhart@hotmail.com>)
This is from the Storyteller I alternate with the SF game.

Misc Heavy Blunt Object table (GM’s are encouraged to make modifications
to the table as they see fit)

The entry under uses is the number of times the item may be swung before it
is useless as a weapon (These things were never intended to be used as a
    weapon after all)
Also, since these things arn't weighted like a weapon and have tenuous at
best gripping surfaces, if a fighter using these weapons of chance takes
more damage in a round than he has strength (From 1 attacker or many) he is
disarmed. Normal attempts to disarm these weapons are made at -2 difficulty

    Roll 2d10

Result Item Speed Damage Move Uses Notes
    2 Roll of quarters +0 +1 +0 1 uses punch technique
    3 Fresh fish +2 +0 +0 2
    4 Priceless Ming Vase -1 +2 +0 1 may be thrown
    5 Glass bottle +1 +2 +0 1/2 see below
    6 Frying pan -1 +3 -1 2
    7 Folding Steel Chair -2 +3 -2 5
    8 Fire Extinguisher -1/+2 +2/spec -1/0 3/2 See below
    9 Roll of bubble wrap -1 -4 +0 3
    10 Stop Sign -1 +3 -1 3
    11 2x4 +0 +2 +0 2
    12 Cardboard box -2 -5 +1 2 may be thrown, affects
    everyone in hex
    13 Plate glass mirror -2 +3 -1 1unless blocking, opp soaks with ½ stamina
    14 Lead pipe +0 +2 +0 3 Reach +1
15 Trash can +1 +3 -2 6 may be thrown, affects everyone in hex
    16 Cinder block -2 +6 -1 1
    17 Ladder -2 +3 -2 2 reach +2
    18 Frying pan with hot oil -2 8 -2 1
    19 Rubber chicken +1 -1 -1 3
    20 Head +0 +3 +0 -2 see below

after the 1st hit the glass bottle breaks and becomes effectively a knife
for up to two more uses, use weapon knife to determine damage

The Fire extinguisher has 2 modes of attack, the 1st is by hitting them with
cannister. This is reflected by the 1st set of stats. The second is by
discharging it. This is an area affect attack that hits hexes like a yoga
flame. Attacker rolls 7 dice against a difficulty of opponents stamina +2,
for each success, opponent suffers a –1 speed penalty to the next turn. If 4
or more successes are scored, opponents are considered dizzied. The effect
lasts until the end of the turn and any entering the hex are affected

The hot oil in the frying pan may be thrown upto 1 hex/attacker strength.
The oil affects all in target hex. The damage ignores block. All burnt by
the oil take 4 more dice of damage the next round, once again ignoring
block. After the oil has been thrown, the frying pan may be used as a normal
frying pan (See above for stats). Scalding someone with hot oil may
    dishonorable

If Al snow is using head, he may use it for an unlimited number of attacks,
also he does not suffer the disarm penalty using head

I also made a move to go with it.

    Scrounge:
Req: Miscellaneous Heavy Blunt Object 1,
Cost: Any Wrestling, Mu Gi Gong (If you ever make it) 1, any 2
    Weapon Manuever
Sometimes you need a little extra boost to your fighting ability and you
don’t have a handy weapon around. While anyone can find a weapon of
opportunity, people with scrounge are better at it.
System: By playing scrounge, a fighter rolls his perception+Miscelaneous
Heavy Blunt Object (Diff 7) for every two successes gained he may roll an
extra time on the random heavy blunt object table. He them may chose one of
his results to find. Scrounge uses perception as base speed, The movement
MUST be taken on this move, but it does not have to be in a straight line,
or in any meaningful path (I.E. he meanders around as he scrounges.)
    Cost: None
Speed: +1 (People looking for weapons without scrounge use straight
    perception)
    Damage: 0
    Move +0

Why not put the SF books online?
We all know that White Wolf don't give a damn 'bout it and we'll never see it published again by it.
I personally think that this is a chance for new players to come too, and I really think that this can be a good way to have the players (and storytellers alike ) to gain access to the so-hard-to-find books of the series, specially contenders wich is in my opinion the hardest book to be found.

    | past. Posting the books online.  I found a web page with the Classic
    | Marvel Rpg rules in pdf format available for download.  Why couldnt we
    | do this again? I believe it was a copyright rule somewhere right?

    It was a copyright issue.
To quote Scott Pittman's message from Tuesday September 12th, 2000:

    ----------------------------------
    "White Wolf Responded:
We do not currently have a license to print further Streetfighter
material, and therefore are not legally empowered to grant anyone
permission to do so either. We still own the copyright to the game itself,
but the rights to print under the Streetfighter trademark have expired.

So whether they wanted to give us permission or not or doesn't matter.
They can't give us permission is what they are saying."

FWIW, and I almost feel dirty saying this, but a combined effort could get
them posted, everyone get access to the books they don't have, and then them
taken down in case Capcom and/or White Wolf wants to complain.

I know how the RPG industry is, and I wouldn't suggest this with books that
were still readily availible or even just still in print, but these
    aren't...

    Anywho, just my two cents.

It really is quite usefull. YOur right you do go last, but its situational.
Lets say your moves are Feirce(if he comes in to fight), Fireball(if he
decides to jump), Grab of some sort( If you want to sustain him).
The idea is you have the option at the time. YOu obviously wont do something
like Jab but certain maoves are definatly benificial with this.

Anyway, about the re-printing issue, I woudl strongly advise you guys not
to go ahead with it. Either White WOlf, or Capcom could order a cease and
desist, which would simply mean we would have to take the documents
    offline. Big deal right?

Well, I'm not sure what more they could do, but I imagine that if they
were ever able to point the finger at one individual, that individual
    would probably get sued.

Who knows. Anway I just think it's not a good idea.

We have always used the "Counting up to speed" technique in our game rather
than everyone calling off speeds along with the rule that maneuvers with
"fixed" Movement can't be modified by maneuvers that modify movement.
Although, our group doesn't use the whole move/attack order of play so I
can't comment on some of the stuff.

We've been tending to subscribe to the whole "Ruroni Kenshin/Ranma" style
of learning new maneuvers (i.e. can learn a new move in a week of intensive
training) However, we often set up our characters to buy a maneuver
(mentioning over a period of several game weeks that we go to our sensei to
practice a new move) so that it is explained when we finally purchase it.

    Hey all-

Just wondering if anyone did up any new PC pics for the Gateway
tourney... I'd do some, if I had any visual arts skills whatsoever...
as is, I have to rely upon the good graces (and far superior skills)
of Mr. Pittman, and another gent on this list whose name I cannot
    recall at the moment.

Not even particularly concerned about Cross' pic... wondering what
    the competition looks like! :)

    Thanks!

Sorry for late reply... I seem to have some sort of weird disease
that forces me to get realling into SFSTG again, despite the fact
that I have no one to play it with. :P

There are two big loopholes I see in this system:

    1) Anyone can take 1 dot in Jiu Jitsu (assuming they have
    Grab/Athletics 2) and get 2 free maneuvers

    2) Not all styles have maneuvers costing up to 5 dots... for
instance, the Pankration has no maneuver costing over 3 power points.

A minor quibble is also the silly rule in Contenders stating that,
for instance, a JKD stylist can get a 5 dot closed style maneuver for
6 dots... I suppose you could always get a 6th dot in JKD, but that's
really nitpicky next to the two concerns above.

    Subject: IRC Tournament?
Okay, I've sorta caught up with what's been going on in the group recently...

Occasionally there've been references to chat rooms. Has there been any
attempt to establish a list channel on something like sorcery.net? In
addition to the hours and hours of idling which would ensue, it could also be
used in conjunction with a hexmap arena with coordinates to run tourneys and
such. It would take some work, but seems feasable. A proposal follows, in
case anyone is interested in pursuing this idea:

BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT, all participants make up characters according to
guidelines set by the ref, and send the sheets to the ref for approval,
including combat charts for quick reference. The ref has hexmap images with
labels for each hex ready to send to the players for use as maps... sort of
like primitive IRC chess, where every player has the map and pieces in front
of them. (A web hexmap applet with ref-controlled sprites would be better,
if anyone has any suggestions.) Obviously, the ref also publishes the rules
    and guidelines beforehand.

AT TOURNAMENT START, participants go to the channel, which is opped by the
ref, probably a secret invite-only channel rather than an open channel. If
people want to be spectators, the channel has to be moderated to make sure
everyone who is not a fighter shuts up. (They can kibbutz in the open
channel.) If using special prefight considerations like warming up, Insight
rolls to try and figure out enemy maneuvers, etc., do this now, with the ref
PMing maneuvers to the characters who make the rolls, and the players can
have a quick strat session (assuming they are teammates; if it's a 2-team
fight with no NPC's the teams should have a seperate channel to kibbutz out
    of earshot of the enemy).

DURING THE TOURNAMENT, the players PM the ref with their maneuver choices,
i.e. "Buffalo Punch on -1." The ref then starts announcing phases going up,
like in a countup system, except he knows everyone's speed so instead of
typing 0, 1, 2, 3, etc. and waiting for a player to jump in, he can just say,
"Phase -1. Steve." Steve now checks out his copy of the map, and might say,
"Step to hex ### and Buffalo Punch (target name)," or "Uh, I abort to a
Block," or whatever. Ref rolls all the dice.

AFTER THE TOURNAMENT, results are posted to the list and/or a cheesy web
    site.

Also, what happened to the email tourney that was supposed to have started?
    Moved to private mail?

I still maintain we should use IRC.
Web-based chat rooms are weak. IRC will also allow for better tournaments.
Hadn't someone on this list developed a dice rolling script?

If anyone knows a good IRC server perhaps we should setup a channel.

I've agreed with others on the web that these aren't free for the style (so
I'd make my players pay for them).

    >2) Not all styles have maneuvers costing up to 5 dots... for
    >instance, the Pankration has no maneuver costing over 3 power points.

This is specifically why I thought to add to the existing web rules for
Multiple Style. If the style background also has to match the highest
technique cost, it doesn't become quite so cheap and seems more "right."
Of course, it's quite possible that some style has no maneuver that costs 5
PP and no maneuver that requires a technique at 5, but I couldn't think of
anything offhand to deal with that.
Also, that you can't by a maneuver using the Any cost if your highest sytle
has less Background dots than it (another thing to make people want to have
at least one style at 5).

    >A minor quibble is also the silly rule in Contenders stating that,

^^;; I created several instances in my house rules where maneuver costs
that are artificially increased for various reasons (improper sensei, etc)
don't affect the "actual base cost" which is what the multiple style rules
use, but I've made it my business just not to mess with JKD.

Subject: Gateway Tournament 2 Bouts - Group 1: Artemis Steele Vs Khali

This the first bout in Gateway Tournament 2 this time I don´t put the player´s style this can make the players make more plans and strategy, remember the fighters never see each other except of course fighters from the first ediction of this tournament they known each other.

Artemis Steele Country: U.S.A Player: Josh Diemert

Apperance:  Slender, 6' tall American woman, with loose and wavy shoulder-length golden blond hair, dark blue eyes, and
fair skin.  Artemis wears a black jacket over a sleeveless, form-fitting blue jumpsuit, black calf-high boots, and a pair of black leather belts crossed over her hips.

Quote before fight:  "Hope I'm not too rough on ya."

                            VS

    Khali Country: India Player: Npc

Apperance: Khalis is a short but well build man, with nice fectures but serious look, his skin is a light brown, no hair but his green eyes can make a man with double of his size fear him, he wears only trunks like boxing trunks.

Quote before fight: "I respect your speech, but I´m not so weak c´mon let´s get start"

Move 1- Artemis Steele move 3 hexes and make a Flying Short Kick and Khali receives: 1 point of damage, this make Khali shake his head but he still in the fight and move for combo, he walk 1 hex to reach Artemis Steele hex (close combat).

Move 2- Artemis Steele make a great mistake and try to start a Scissor Kick but is too slow and Khali is very close now he interrupts Artemis kick and make a Braicracker and this catch the female fighter inside a susteinted hold, Artemis receives: 2 points of damage. Should give you some idea of what I'm trying to do.

I don't know if I'm succeeding very much, though. After 4-5 sessions, I
suffered a mild form of GM burnout - I usually get bored with GMing
something after 5 or so sessions because we play too often ;-), and have
really put the entire thing on ice. Now, after work tomorrow I've got two
whole weeks off of work (Easter - best thing since sliced bread) and I
suppose the Celestial Dragon Master of the West will reveal his true
identity. Mayland Long is not _necessarily_ a good guy :-)

Hmph. I really should go and treat myself to a new gfx card, and then
perhaps Tribes2 will eat my spare time - but if not, then I'll probably
work on the web pages :-)

I saw that site, I was pretty impressed really. Had the flavor of
wuxia and whatnot. I toyed with the idea of a fantasy themed game,
using SF... Victory Road: High Road to Hell, where a Chinese or
Japanese (haven't decided which way I wanted to go) demon lord has
made it his mission to bring hell to earth, something along those
lines. The only way to really stop him, is to confront him on his
own plane! The reference to "High Road to Hell" leads one
(hopefully) to think that they have to take the morally high path
(ie, honorable) to achieve true victory against their nemesis.

Ok I will admit I have been lurkin as of late, but recently I got a copy of
    Dragon Fist from TRS.

Now a little while agao, someone mentioned running a feudal Japan/China based
    game.

I thought that idea was cool, and rememebrd Dragon Fist, did a quick search an
whammo, I found it at ADnDPlanet.

I dunno, who mention the Dragon Fist befor bt have you converted anything from
Dragon Fist to Streetfighter or Streetfighter to Dragon Fist?

It is free and it is all in a adobe acrobat format in a zip file.

If anyone is interested, e-amil me and I will send the url.

    Later all,
    Gero

I've been playing it since last year's November, it just doesn't rocks
I it the best freakin action rpg out there (for a wuxia standpoint of course...)
I don't think that a street fighter conversion would be good because tthe game is so complete by itself (it runs really good with only the basic rulebook)
