Actually, most RPGs give settings and worlds. Without settings,
characters, plots, etc., a game would just be a bunch of boring rules
which is fine for those "generic game systems" but not for a
setting-based RPG.

Many people do like adventure ideas, and many pre-built adventures for
games are published.

So, I think examples of settings and plot ideas are perfectly acceptable.
However, I do agree that games should give the storyteller freedom and
encourage creativity.

I've been running Street Fighter for several years. If I put my adventures
down on paper I'd have a novel. If I'm going to devote my time to writing a
novel, I'd like to get a publisher first.

I will be writing a lot of essays on my interpretations of the circuit and
the genre itself when I get back to working on my page, but I haven't had
the inclination to do so yet. I'd rather work on my programming projects,
as I can actually play those as they are being developed.

it's real cool that you have the new backgrounds, styles, maneuvers
etc....but what about the actual adventures?? or you'll be in the same
rut that white wolf was in..made a whole lot of books with just a lot
of fighting moves..one of the few reasons that the book was cancelled

Here are the stats on Shihai-Suru-Do (still not sure
of the proper spelling). I didn't create this, so
don't blame me if it seems too powerful. (Or too
lame).

Josh
-------------------------------------------------------
SHIHAI-SURU-DO

This impressive style is as brutal and tough as it is
beautiful, a flowing, almost exotic dance-like style
that was developed by dominatrixes as a personal style
to defend both themselves and their "property". A
teacher/practicioner of this style is properly called
"Mistress" mainly as a sign of respect, but this is
also due to the fact that no men are allowed to learn
it.

I try to keep the running story of what my group goes through on my web
page. It's probably useful for players to help them recall past events.

Unbreakable was cool!
Still iffy about D&D. I'm not one to judge based on other opinions...but
even the previews looked like crap to me. We'll see.

I think I'll be in line to see Crouching Tiger, Sleeping Dragon tommorow.

Actually, the D&D movie was pretty good. (Spoiler free comments follow.)
It had fun characters and was in general a decent popcorn flick. You can
think of it as watching a gaming session.
The only thing that got me was that there were people of races in the
background not from D&D as far as I could tell.
All the CG special effects didn't end up being that bad once watching the
film.

The princess was played by one of the girls from American Beauty. I
thought she did a good job. Although, I liked Marina personally. The hero
was pretty good too (one of the actors of Jimmy from Lois and Clark).

I wish they would have mentioned the princesse's age somewhere. In the close-ups her face was a bit pudgy and suggested that she wasn't that old. They could have played up the pre-mature death of the Emperer/king a bit and added more story depth to the story (Prophion's plot all along? or plain bad luck?)

Marina was a really good actress. I was impressed at the scene where she's screaming at Rippley. Really good acting.
(doh...can't spoil anything...gotta be careful)

Looking back on it...the tracker was actually better at her role that might be expected at first glance. Elves are suposed to be flighty and aloof and she did that well.
If you don't believe me, keep this in mind and go see it again.

It wasn't a speciall effect fest (had the whole theatre chanting "fireball, fireball, fireball" but we didn't get one :( They didn't have the budget (It was either 300k or 3 mill...can't remember which. I just know that it was rather paltry compaired to the hollywood average.)

I thought that a lot of scenes watched like Indiana Jones. But then again aren't all D&D adventurers also amature arceoligists? ;)

my two cents...It was far better than I expected. I went in with 6 of my
friends, figuring it would probably suck. And I came away impressed, despite
all the parallels to Star Wars (friend o' mine cracked us all up by imitating
"Strong with the force am I"). It's a fun movie for us nerds, cuz you can
continually make little asinine comments like "Now, is that a d8 damage or
d12?" and "I hope he buys a bong +5 with all that gold!" "Why not just make
an orc servant set off the trap?" etc, etc...the stupidity continues. as for
the actual movie....it was good. Don't read further if you don't want any
spoilers....

There's dozens of far worse fantasy movies. I was pissed at there not being
any goblins, and the dwarf was basically useless. He was probably on camera
for six minutes, and very little of that time was spent doing anything
useful. The fact that one of the only roles they gave to a black guy was the
"wacky black guy who dies" stereotype disgusted me, even though he was a cool
character to see work in the movie. And, since I'm a D&D nerd, I was bummed
they didn't ressurect him. We were placing bets while watching on how long
till he's ressurected. Though that wouldn't have worked, drama-wise,
obviously. What really bummed me out is that this movie's probably a bomb,
moneywise. The theatre here placed it in one of their smaller theatres, and
THAT was only half full. opening night, in a college town. If that's how it's
going around the country, the movie will be on home video in....3 months.

What did the ending mean?
The jewel erased Snails name from the gravestone?
Then they all flew away?
Did they all die to go join Snails?
Did he come back alive?
What the heck? What was the point?

That and the "only you can pass the barrier" are the only real faults I

I heard about something like that in a net-style called Scothish Highlander
style: I don´t known who create this but the only thing I disagree is a
athletic move for me and not grab. But I hope this help ya.

DOUBLE SLAM
Prerequisites: Grab ***
Power Points: Scottish Higland Fighting 4

Scottish Highlanders show off their strengh with this move, where they
pick their victim up, slam her to the ground, then hoist her up again
without letting go to bring her overhead to slam her down again!

System: This Grab maneuver ignores Blocks. The victim is hoisted overhead
to land for the first slam in the hex opposite where she was relative
to the Highlander, then is returned to her own hex after the second slam.
The Highlander must move into the same hex to grab, but steps back for
the slams, thus effectively not moving from his original position.
The victim is Knocked Down. She also takes seperate damage from each
individual slam.

Cost: 1 Willpower
Speed: - 1
Damage: + 0, - 3(for the second slam)
Move: One

The barrier was there to keep out anyone who didn't possess the Eye of
the Dragon. That's why only the hero could pass. That was already a
pretty good defense in itself.

Now, the maze that he had to go through to get the Eye of the Dragon was
filled with traps. That was pretty cool. It all seemed pretty D&D to me.

I've never seen any evidence of superhuman ability (outside of jumping 20'
straight up) and I've see all of Dominion and New Dominion. However, it does
say in the Tank Police RPG (Guardians of Order) that they have superhuman
stamina strength and the obvious athletics.

So maybe it's in the manga or something.

to cast all enemy bosses as excellent fighters, and I think that shouldn't
always be the case; the real bosses hire the excellent fighters to protect
them so they can worry about more important things. :)

Well in the anime i agree to a point of their
supereior Physical prowess. at one point the dui whip

would have huge recoyals so they would have to be

Actually Jeff, we got about a dozen fired off in the
final battle. They just all missed.

My only complaint was that they might have cut out one
or two scenes that would have furthered the story.
One was Ridley's dream, where he gets to see a baby
gold dragon being born. The other is the first
argument between Ridley and Marina, supposedly taking
place in the map in the tavern.

Other than that, I liked it. A LOT!

It actually made it into the top 5 sellers, hitting
$7 mil opening weekend.

The Puma sisters, Anna and Uni, are ANDROIDS. They
are artificial constructs designed to look "roughly"
human. Their cat-ears are primarily design ethics.
Yes, you will find more background info on them in the
Dominion:Tank Police mangas (the original and the
sequel, No More Noise. Their android abilities really
shine through in that one.)

um, pardon me. fireball doesn't just miss, and the appearance of the
fireball was all wrong as well.

only Monks in 1st edition (maybe 3rd edition too, unsure with 3rd
edition), could dogde a fireball on succesful savings throw, after
attaining a certin level

Why? "The wizard point's his finger and speaks the range (Height &
Distatance) at which the fireball is to detonate" (paraphrase) Trying to hit
a fast -flying- target can't be easy...but if they *were* fireballs, I'd
have liked to see the explosions somewhere on-screen...

>and the appearance of the fireball was all wrong as well.
Again, why? "A streak flashes from the pointing digit and, unless it
impacts upon a material body or solid barrier prior ..." (paraphrase).
However, I agree, to a point. I personally took them as 'Melf's Minute
Meteors'. (And, since they were ordered to target the wings, this would give
them more chances to hit them). ;-)

yea, that's what I based my version on. But like I said, I only saw the
first episode. Ya learn something new every day, don't ya?

I'm not switchin'. :ppppp

oh by the way folks, Howard may be returning to us. He's, quote: "so bored
I'm thinking of starting a Street Fighter game", and is writing
clarifications/house rules to get started on. He asked me if the list was
still active, so we may be graced with his presence in the near future.

does anyone here play Magic: the Gathering? If so, do you own the Magic
Encyclopedia for the PC? It's got an online play feature and I'm wondering
if I can hook up with anyone I know rather than troll for strangers in the
WotC chat rooms.

Sorry Steve, I got mana burned out several years ago. But if I did still play,
online would probably be how.

hehe yea, I did too. I called it quits after Visions, but recently I dug my
old copy of Battlemage out of the back of my PSX cabinet and started to play
again. Now I'm in full swing again and have managed to re-kindle the
addictions of two of my friends. Damn you, Richard Garfield, damn
youuuuuuu!
