Subject: Sourcebooks and StreetFighter EX
Im going to London Ontario, (about an hour away from me now) this weekend
and the one gaming store had a bunch of copies of the StreetFighter books
there last time I checked. Im willing to pick them up for people if anybody
wants them. Theyre pretty cheap too if I remember correctly.

I just picked up StreetFighter Ex plus Alpha this weekend for the
Playstation and I love it. Does anyone have detailed histories or stats for
the new people in it? Also does anyone know what SF games are available for
the Playstation? I got to get them all....the last SF game (video) I played
was Super StreetFighter 2 for the Super Nintendo.

And lastly, the online game that is being played? Any chance I could sit in
and watch? Unfortunately I dont have a lot of time, but would love to see
someone else run a game. Especially online.

Thanks

As I said, Ryu & Ken are friends, I worded my earlier reply REALLY
badly. I get my info from Capcom preess releases, Game endings, (I also
have the Movie & series, but they don't count) & talking to a friend who
works for Capcom.

Yeah, very Samurai. In fact many of the training methods and attitudes
come from Kendo. Maby I should have Said Bushido, but it has the same
codes as Budo(more or less different names for the same thing). But, I
must say, I've never seen his book, I don't think it's available in this
country. But, I've trained with people such as Kanazawa Sensei, & Abe
Sensei, & they trained with the man himself.

It was Street Fighter Zero.

Dennis

P.S You can also do it in the play station(damn it to hell) version of
Zero 3.

I'd like a copy of Contenders, Players guide & Secrets of Shadowlaw, If
they've got them, But the Only way I could pay would be to Mail you the
Cash, so, If thats ok......

>I just picked up StreetFighter Ex plus Alpha this weekend for the

Not much, the only stuff Capcom realesed was whats in the manual. The
characters don't acually exist as far as Capcom is concerned, 'cause EX
was done by a different company. Only thing I know is that D.Dark is a
dilliberate piss take of Scorpian From MK.

Also does anyone know what SF games are available for
>the Playstation? I got to get them all....the last SF game (video) I

Play Station(damn it to hell) has(to my knowlage)"Street fighter
Collection" which is SSF2, SSF2X & SF02 gold. "Street Fighter 2
Collection" which I think is SF2, & SF2X, but I'm not sure. "Street
Fighter Zero". "Street Fighter Zero 2". "Street Fighter Zero 3". & last
but not least(well maby) Street Fighter EX+alpha.

Dennis

Well, You can add X-MEN vs. Street fighter, & Marvel Super heros Vs.
Street Fighter. But the PLay Station(damn it to Hell) versions of it
SUCK.

Err....Well I wasnt looking for spelling maistakes now but the sonner the better. I simply made the sheets and copyed them 8 or so times so any mistake on 1 is a mistake on all.

Ahyh yyes thats true. I made that move very quickly at the end. What its supposed to say is hits standing individuals once. It has no effect on crouching. Its supposed to be in the similair vein of a double hit kick hitting aerial or crouching once. I have to fix the Ryu and Ken Background. I found a picture on the Capcom website showing young Ryu, Ken and Guy as friends. I want the background to reflect that.

I'd really hate to do this.  Steve was kind enough to give me permission to reprint most of the material and I'd rather not push it.  You're not missing much by not having these books.  :)  I can give you a run-down of what's in each one if you like.  (yes, I know you're still waiting on the cyborg rules.  soon. :)

How 'bout we pull off some serious copyright violations and scan all the
darn books in 100dpi grayscale (or black/white even) and pass 'em
around.

I could go through the trouble of scanning Perfect Warrior. My other two
books are too scribbled with corrections to be of interrest (or?). Well,
maybe Secrets isn't that violated but...

I would benefit from this stunt 'cos I lack Players Guide, Contenders
and the Screen. And I've been playing for 2 years without 'em.

But... where could they be posted?

Hey, there is a on line campaign, Darrick's running it, so post something to him on the list, we're playing this week, & he said new players were welcome, I don't know, but it can't hurt to ask. The last Game KICKED ASS. Dennis

Subject: [streetfighter] Sourcebooks and StreetFighter EX

Thanks

Subject: Recent postings.
Hi, everyone.

Haven't been posting lately due to the IMMENSE amount of work I've had
to do with school and trying to find a job for this summer.

Also, I've been trying to deal with the veritable deluge of posts lately
and I haven't been able to respond as I would like. So, I'm taking this
one post to address the recent postings that have been interesting me.

Dennis: That was some great information you had on Shotokan and the
Funakoshi legacy. I'll admit, I have very little knowledge concerning
Japanese martial arts, especially karate. Most of my focus is on more
obscure martial arts.

Tom: That was a great sourcebook you posted a little while ago. I have
it saved to my permanent files. I actually own (or owned) a copy of
Warriors of Blood and Dream, and I can also recommend it to anyone who
thinks there is too little exposure to martial arts in the literary
field. Granted, there's just so many ways you describe a spinning back
kick before it gets tiresome, but they manage to do it a bit creatively.
BTW, Tom that character sheet you posted was decent, but it was too big
a file. 890 K, ferkryingoutloud. Hotmail even sent me a warning.

I'm not sure who originally posted this information, but the idea of a
SF LARP is definitely intriguing. I'm not very familar with LARPS as it
is. Are there plans to play at a con or something?

On the whole Ken and Ryu thing: One of the things I like best about the
Street Fighter mythos is the running theme of Ken and Ryu's friendship.
Here we have two warriors, albeit both with different outlooks on
fighting, but all the same they consider each other to be their only
worthy adversary. I don't know whether or not this is puely a result of
Japanese storytelling or whatnot, but I like the idea that competition
doesn not necessarily beget hatred. In America, sometimes we are taught
in competition that to defeat an opponent, we must hate the opponent.
Whether that's right or wrong or even efficient, but Ken and Ryu's
relationship as that of steadfast friends as well as rivals is a
definite refreshment in an age where people are destroying each other
left and right.
Although, I could just be thinking about it a little too much. :)

Sourcebooks: Anybody writing a sourcebook take note: Whatever it is, I
would like a copy. I can't garauntee that I'll use everything, but
anything that can help expand and refresh a game that has been out of
print for five years is a welcome addition. Just becareful if a file is
over 500 Kb or something, I've only got so much space on Hotmail. For
anyone who's just joined the list I have a working sourcebook at

http://members.tripod.com/~dare2live/sfpage.html

And now, some personal stuff.

Regarding sourcebooks, I am currently working on a supplement to my New
Legends expansion. Namely, the New Legends Storyteller's Masterbook.
Essentially, it is a compilation of stuff that only storytellers should
know. It's got plot points, some enemy write ups and a few odds and
ends, some of which I already posted to this list a while back. I'm
debating whether I should post it on my SF page, send it exclusively to
members of the list, or just e-mail on a by demand basis.

Concerning the online campaigns: Yes, we are currently accepting new
players, but I 'm not sure how many people the ICQ chat can handle at
one time. Last time we played, we had trouble with players getting
kicked off line occasionally, and we suspect that server capacity may be
a key factor. If you wish to sit in, regard the following.

To all my players: Wednesday is looking just a wee bit iffy. But since
I don't have class until half past noon the following day, I might be
able to pull it off. It'd probably be a bit of a short session, maybe an
hour or two, but we are also playing this upcoming Saturday, barring
foreseen circumstances. we will be starting maybe an hour or so earlier,
if this is possible for everyone, at 10 pm Eastern Central. If any of
these times are not possible, I am also willing to run the campaign on
Friday night. I will be posting tomorrow night at the latest the
concrete plans for Wednesday, so y'all check Wednesday morning, or
whatever that time equals out to wherever you are.

All in all, I think this mailing list is getter more awesome with each
day.

Later,

Darrick

I've found this to be very true with many Martial Artists. I've found
that the people that we(martial Artists) generally get on best with is
people who are a good challange to our abbilities, & that compeating
against each other is a good way to reinforce friendships.

my main concern with an SF LARP versus any other form of LARP I've seen is that there is virtually no combat in most LARPS; they're all just excuses for people to act like the diplomats they wish they were.  (note almost all WoD LARPs involve Chantry/Clan disputes, dinner meetings, diplomatic negotiations, etc).  Street Fighters are not diplomats; they handle their disputes in a far more direct manner.  I'm really curious to see the work you've done on this as I, for one, don't feel it can be pulled off.  Prove me wrong. :)

Okay guys,

We play on Wednesday night at 11 pm eastern central time. Be there or
be square. All newbies are welcome, but only on a sit-in basis. All I
ask is that you don't interrupt the game, cuz I can only run it for 2
hours or so. If you want to comment use the ICQ instant messenger.
Players: We'll also be deciding when to play this weekend.

See you there!

Sourcebooks! SOURCEBOOKS!!!

Everyone single one out there seems to be occupied writing
sourcebooks!!! Who's got enough time on their hands to pull a stunt
like that?!

But I can always find the time to comment on other's material though.
So please keep sending drafts through this list.

And. It seems like most people on this list are interrested in fan
sourcebooks so why not simply post 'em on the list. In attached
format please. Am I the only one who prefers attached texts?

BTW. I have a basic hexmap based skirmish system under testing. I'll
post it if it ever gets tested and/or completed. Without asking
first! Hah!

heck is going on. Just TODAY I get an e-mail saying that the "item I
requested is out of stock".

Now I was wary in the first place about Contenders being available
ANYWHERE, but since i got no message stating other wise withing a
week of ordering I admit I got my hopes up.

Whil I admit that ordering online is already a dubious practice, I
have to say that this manner of conducting business is
unprofessional, inefficient, and altogether unacceptable.

Which is why I suggest a boycott of anything Red Rock related. Not
only do I think we should not give Red Rock our business, we should
also tell anyone we know to stay away from this slovenly and poorly
conducted "vendor".

Thanks for your time and power to the people,

Darrick

depends on who teachs you. All martial arts have application it is just a matter

the only thing that bothers me about this character is the kick of 8.

Ask them about it.Its quite possible they know about it and it was never
brought up. It was Funakoshi's auto-biography. I've only seen it one place
so far.
I got it from the library. Maybe someone made a copy and put it out on the
net as well.
There were some very interesting things in his book.

Yah I actully liked that to. but it makes Ken and Ryu seem a bit like there looking for a fight. The game version makes me think of Ryu as more like Miyamoto Musashi. Wandering to perfect his skill/self. Unfortunatley there a few things I didnt like about V as well like that Chun Li was from HK not China and her dad taught Fei Long.

Err....Well I wasnt looking for spelling maistakes now but the sonner the
better.
I simply made the sheets and copyed them 8 or so times so any mistake on 1
is a mistake on all.

Ahyh yyes thats true. I made that move very quickly at the end. What its
supposed to say is hits standing individuals once. It has no effect on
crouching.
Its supposed to be in the similair vein of a double hit kick hitting aerial
or crouching once.

I have to fix the Ryu and Ken Background. I found a picture on the Capcom
website showing young Ryu, Ken and Guy as friends. I want the background to
reflect that.

Hi Darrick.

Thanks Darrick Im still working on it though any comments or info would be appreciated.

About the charater sheet...sorry, I really didnt think much of it. I was quite impressed when one of my players made it. She's been doing alot for the game actully so Ive been commending her alot. But when I saw the unfilled version it didnt seem that much diffrent
from the original. The filled version of her character sheet looks much nicer.

No, I dont think your thinking to much into it. A friend of mine gave me that exact point a while ago. He thinks the rivalry is what makes the story interesting.

Just as a side note to everyone:

Even if you play Ken and beat Ryu, Ken push's Ryu on to try his best. Most martial arts are about character.

http://members.tripod.com/~dare2live/sfpage.html

All in all, I think this mailing list is getter more awesome with each
day.

Later,

Darrick

Heh heh. Thats actully perfect. Things tend to get a bit exagerated when you use
character points in Star Wars. Perfect for SF.

Just as a comment. there are alot of systems out there that have interesting
rules or approachs to games.
Imagine playing SF using the cyberpunk rules. Players would be killed.

One of my favorite systems was Hol. A game by Black Dog Games (a subsidary of
White Wolf.) Unfortunatly the game had some problems i think(mechanic wise)
but they had some great ideas like the grace of god rules.

Check this out. At the begining of the game the Storyteller roles 1d6. This is
the number of times the players can use grace of god to save them selves. (the
story teller does not tell them how many points he rolled.) This is the number
of times the ST can save the players butts from trouble so deep they cant do any
thing. to get out of it.(Attacked by 10000 rabbid barbarian bunnies, tied to a
ship with chains thats doing a header into the ground etc etc. Well when they
call on these points the ST can get them out some how
such as a fly will break the fall of the meteor, saving the players. All the
Rabbid barbarian
bunnies have an instant and oddly heart attack putting them all down or the
player tied to the ship crash's into a garbage yard of pillows.

Now the only problem was that if all the Grace of God points were used and a
player
asked for the grace of god, the he was punished by the WRATH OF GOD. Woe be to
the entire group, cause the Wrath of God Hits ALL the players. A dish best
served cold
is served to everyone. The wrath of god is the worst thing possible going wrong
X 10.

Just as an interesting note to all the martial artists that play this game. If
you tryed to make a character as your self in the game you wouldbe quite
surprised. The sheer number of techniques you might possess would probably fill
a page. But its occured to me that these are techniques that are natural to the
character...practised over and over again.

I'm at work and away from my Street Fighter game. Can anyone send me the
characteristic benchmarks for the characters? I think it's on the
Storyteller's screen. You know, 1 = this. 2 = average, 5 = maximum, etc.

Yea, I tried to take the V series as canon, but there was just too much I had to hack in order to get it to fit.  Eventually I threw out the entire second half, from about the point where Ken and Chun Li get kidnapped by Bison and Vega.  What I did decide on was that yes, Chun Li's father taught Fei Long, but only briefly.  Ditto his daughter; he shipped her off to school when he realized she was not only beyond his capability but he didn't have enough time to properly instruct her.

I *also* kept the concept of Cammy as a former assassin.  Her attempt on Dorai Li's life succeeded, but no one ever found out she did it... 'except Fei Long, since he was there.  He kept quiet for reasons he never explained, but when Chun Li went on her rampage after Cammy's death Fei Long finally revealed it in order to rein her in.

Ahyh yyes thats true. I made that move very quickly at the end. What its
supposed to say is hits standing individuals once. It has no effect on
    crouching.
Its supposed to be in the similair vein of a double hit kick hitting aerial
    or crouching once.

I have to fix the Ryu and Ken Background. I found a picture on the Capcom
website showing young Ryu, Ken and Guy as friends. I want the background to
    reflect that.

Just as a curiosity, since most of you don't know about it, Street
Fighter is being translated to Portuguese and is being sold here in Brazil!
The basic book was split into 3 parts, which are being sold as gaming
magazines, one part per month. The price is about US$ 3.00, so the book as
a whole costs about US$ 9.00; neat, huh?
Also, there's a rumor that they'll translate the sourcebooks, also.
The quality of translation is very good, and most of the pictures were
changed by some *much* better ones.

I can't say I cared for the V series. Ken and Ryu acted a little too
frolicky for my test, 17 years old or no.
Also there is one big discrepancy in that Chun Li is supposed to be
around five years OLDER than Cammy. In all the profiles put out by
CAPCOM, Chun Li is supposed to be 24, and Cammy 19. I find it very
hard to believe that Cammy is supposed to be 10 in the V series.

Something springs to mind... The reason EX is a bit weird and low on
background (and endings for that matter) on the characters is simply
that it isn't a genuine Capcom game. Arika made it, with Capcom's
permission. So, it is basically an Arika game with the Capcom SF
characters. So, by that rationale, it could be viewed as an alternate
    universe.

Does any of this ring any bells? Or am I too far out there?

    Just U. Tough.

Why I don't? Because if you start dealing with facing and stuff you
should probably have some sort of bonus (and Honor loss) for kicking
someone in the back. And fighters might not be able to interrupt an
action taking place right behind them. Or?

I like the 360 degree vision thing on the same grounds I like the
fact that there are no to hit rolls. These boys are trained martial
artists; if the target doesn't dodge (i.e. interrupt and move away)
he wont miss. Unless he rolls very bad as that must count as a miss
    of course.

Why not let the fighters be constantly alert too? The 360 degree
vision keeps things smooth. Only one thing to bear in mind: his
position on the hexmap. No facing. Lovely. No WHFB here. Nope.

I know some out there use to hit rolls though. But how do you explain
a zillion success hit followed by a damage roll that botches. "Clean
hit! Right in his... well... very, VERY hard jaw bone. You hurt
    yourself... Yupp."
