Well, Sagat taught himself. Sakura, er, learns real well by imitation, I'd
imagine. (although in my game she's been telling everyone she studied under
Ryu, I can't wait to see what happens when someone tells him this), and
Dan... well, Dan I just try and wish real hard never existed.

I've had the SF game for about six or seven years, ever since high
school. I probably haven't played it in five years, but I'm really
getting back into it and have been collecting information off the
net. I do only own the core rule book, however, and I'll say I'd
like to see the books posted online. Back to my point... I have only
just recently gotten back into Street Fighter (since I played SF: EX
3 on PS2), and have just gotten completely lost in it lately. I eat,
sleep, and breath SF all of the sudden.

Anyway, to the point here. I've been working on a sort of unofficial
Guide to the World Warriors, trying to encompass information on all
of the major players in the Street Fighter universe, including at the
very least what style they use and what country they're from. I was
wondering if anyone would be interested in it. And if so, I'm gonna
need a little help filling in some blanks.

The bulk of the information is historical type stuff, like how Chun-
Li's dad died, or why M. Bison hosted the Street Fighter II tourney.
It is organized by character, so Ryu's history is under Ryu and
anything that linked him with Ken would be in both their histories.
If you've got any questions, answers, or are interested in me putting
this up, let me know.

Sagat developed his Tiger Uppercut after losing to
Ryu.

Sakura idolizes Ryu, and could have possibly developed
her versions of the Dragon Punch, Hurrricane Kick, and
Hadoken through practice (in the video game the
animations are NOT identical.)

As for Dan and Sean, I don't have enough information
to say anything about them. The point is, just
because two styles have similar moves, doesn't mean
that one style "stole" the maneuvers from the other.
Many martial arts styles developed similar moves over
the course of their histories, some from imitation,
others from innovation.

My 2 cents (probably worth less)

Josh

Dan was Sakura's mentor. Great thing to brag about, right?
Sagat has similar moves, but I wouldn't say they the same as those from
Gouken.

A better question would be "Who ISN'T interested?" This is one of the best
ideas I've heard. Get to it, and when you finish with Rose and M.Bison/Lord
Vega send them to me: It will make "Path of Thorns" a lot easier.

Alright, it seems everyone's interested. Let me go over what I've
got so far, maybe track down some more stuff, then I'll see what
information I need and ask around on here for it in my next post.
Hopefully I should have it down by Friday or Saturday.

The next question is: What format should it be in and do you want it
with pictures or without?

I'll have to add the Japan Hero team and Iori '96 team later.

Dan's style is one he created himself, based off of Shotokan. I can't
remember the name of it, but it translates to "the strongest style". of
course, thats not half as bad as his "Layin' the Smack Down" Super, which
translates to "Total Victory Relying on Nobody but Myself Fist".

Luck? Its just a roll of the dice...

Well.. If we want ot be specific Dan DID train under gouken.. Albiet a short time. Gouken had not 2 students....but 4 <at least> Ryu and Ken Trained from beginning to end, but also Former world warrior Retsu was his student. Admittedly retsu did not learn advanced shotokan, and appeared to be content with his level of practice. Dan also was to have trained under gouken, after Go died <remebre dan was created off of SNK guys, and his story thrown together afterwards, anyays>. Gouken sent Dan away because his heart was too filled with hatred for Sagat. ....However I doubt that his fireball and Dragon punch were much taught to him by master gouken. Like Sakura, he probbaly learned via imitation.

Ryu knows is possible very diffrent from our world equivilent.
And even though it is widely taught, It doesnt mean its understood by
everyone.

As for the secrets im not to sure. It seems that other stlyist who havnt
even studied under Gouken know the moves namely, Sagat, Sakura, Dan. And Ken

Has 1 student in SF3, sean.
Im pretty sure If ryu taught someone, ken wouldnt give a damn. Bot too much

Ahhh...
Finnaly  man after my own hear <....I think>.
I also am a huge bug as far as Historical Street Fighting is concerened. I've been studying it from back in 87' with SF1. The most serious problem one encounters when undertaking this kind of research is not so much aquiring the information, as much as getting Conflicting reports. Tie that with the fact that there are about 6 different continums (The Vid Games, OTHER vid games, The RPG, the movies, the animes, the comics, etc.) and you end up with a whopper of a headace and a feeling that Sagat will say "Ryu.....I am you Father!"..
In all the info the I compile, I normmaly try to use that which is most coroberated, and/or the information that most fits in RPG. Something that i think you will find of intreset is the Time-line of 'improtant' events in the SF world.
Or, just go looking in the vault if ya like.
The version that i have put there is not 100% up to date, but I think the most important stuff is there. I tend to be obsessive and really engrossed in this subject matter, so if you ever want to talk with me Specifically (and not tie up the board) you're more that welcome to do so.  ( Andy J. dlatrex@...)

Apprently I didn't pay attention to the subject line on that last
post.  Sorry for posting this twice but I wanted to make sure it had
the right title so it would get the right kind of attention.

Yea, but considering Xiaoyu has two (rear-facing and Art of Phoenix) but Lei
has like five, minimum (Tiger, Crane, Phoenix, Panther, Drunken, errr...)
Lei is probably a better inspiration for a stance-related system.

In other words, I was being a wise ass.

PS; My wife, taking full advantage of West Coast Video's new
"all-u-can-rent: 20$ a month" program, is regularly coming home with stacks
of videos to watch. As a result, I found myself sitting through X-Men two
days ago. I liked it a lot, even if it built up a little too slowly in the
beginning. HOWEVER, as she is wont to do when faced with facets of
"well-known" American culture that she's never heard of before, upon
completion of the movie she began to interrogate me about the X-Men, asking
me all sorts of questions to which I had no answers. As you all know, I am
not now nor have I ever been a reader of comic books, and as a result came
up empty on all counts. So I now turn to the more knowledgeable members of
the list to help me learn the following;

1) Our buddy, Wolverine. The movie never explained exactly who
re-engineered his skeleton with adamantium. Was the memory loss
intentional? Did he escape, or was he allowed to leave? If he WAS allowed
to leave, why? Who'd let such an important experiment go?

Also, I had to explain to her that Storm, Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, and
Rogue weren't the only X-Men. I know there's also Colossus, Gambit, and
Psylocke, but I'm sure there's more. Who am I missing? Did we spot any of
them in Professor X's compound in a cameo that I just never caught?

2) Am I correct that Magneto shares the same philosophies as Professor X,
but is merely a little, um, prejudiced by his experiences in World War II?
Or is that just an excuse to be a megalomaniac?

Spinal and Glacius are two I would finr difficult to fit into the Street

Sabrewulf would make a good Animal Hybrid, Fulgor a good Cyborg.

The big Celtic dude (who's name escapes me) would be tough to pin a matrial
arts style on...

Kim Wu, Orchid, TJ Combo, and Jago are givens. These are probably the "less
silly" ones.

Wolverine was created by a shadow faction of the
Canadian Government to be their "supersolder".
Because of his super-regenerative abilities, he was
the only test subject to be able to withstand the
bonding process. The memory loss occurred when he
escaped from their facility. (X-men animated show).

Since I haven't seen the movie yet, but have seen some
previews, all I can tell you is that the girl who
phases through Prof. X's office door is a cameo for
Kitty Pride, one of the "original" X-men (comic book
series). She had the power of intangibility, and was
really close friends with Colossus.

> 2) Am I correct that Magneto shares the same

Now, Magneto is a bit more complicated. Again, I
don't know how he was portrayed in the movie, but in
both the comics and animated TV series, he felt that
Mutantkind was the next evolutionary step, and
Humanity needed to step aside, or be destroyed. His
philosophy was indeed colored by the trauma he
underwent during the war.

That about covers your questions. If I made things
even more confusing, I apologize in advance, as my
memory on the X-men is not equivalent to your typical
Marvel fan's. If, on the other hand, I was as clear
as crystal, then thank you for listening.

I can answer some of this stuff.

<<1) Our buddy, Wolverine. The movie never explained exactly who
re-engineered his skeleton with adamantium. Was the memory loss
intentional? Did he escape, or was he allowed to leave? If he WAS
allowed to leave, why? Who'd let such an important experiment go?>>

His skeleton wasnt re-engineered per say. It was bonded with
Adamantium. His own bones are still there and all, just underneath
the Adamantium.

I grabed this from Marvel's webpage.

"History: A star member of the X-Men, whose long, checkered, and
mostly forgotten past remains a mystery to him. Wolverine's confusion
is compounded by his recent discovery that many of his memories were
artificially implanted. It is believed that Logan served as an agent
of the Canadian government, when his mutant abilities were discovered
- he was put though a series of procedures that bonded the
unbreakable metal Adamantium to his skeleton. Perhaps his most
remarkable feature, and certainly his trademark, are the retractable
Adamantium claws! As Weapon X, he worked for the Canadian government,
but eventually joined the X-Men."

Wolverine escaped from the people who bonded the metal to his bones
and was found naked and feral in the Canadian north by James
MacDonald Hudson and his wife Heather. (Later to become Guardian and
Vindicator of Alpha Flight) Mac Hudson wanted to form a Canadian
superhero team and wanted Logan to lead it. He then bailed to join
the X-Men.

<<Also, I had to explain to her that Storm, Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean
Grey, and Rogue weren't the only X-Men. I know there's also
Colossus, Gambit, and Psylocke, but I'm sure there's more. Who am I
missing? Did we spot any of them in Professor X's compound in a

There have been loads and loads of X-Men over the years. Currently
in the comics the team consists of :

Professor X, Wolverine, Archangel, Psylocke, Nightcrawler, Colossus,
Rogue, Jean Grey, Cable, Bishop, Thunderbird, Beast, Gambit, Jean
Grey (going by Phoenix), Shadowcat is MIA, Storm, and I believe that
is the current team. But it changes a lot. if you go to
www.marvel.com along the left hand side there are the character bios
link. If you click X-Men files, there is a huge list of mutants with
a write up on them.

<<2) Am I correct that Magneto shares the same philosophies as
Professor X, but is merely a little, um, prejudiced by his
experiences in World War II?>>

Professor X believes humans and mutants can live together. Magneto
used to want mutants to rule over humans, then he just wanted a safe
haven for mutants, but now that he has been given his own Country I
dont know what he wants.

<<Or is that just an excuse to be a megalomaniac?>>

Megalomaniac is such a strong word :)

Wolverine was created by the Canadian Government's
Weapon X program (nothing to do with Xaiver) to be
their "supersolder". Because of his super-regenerative
abilities, he was the original test subject, the second
to be Sabretooth; both subjects had to be able to
withstand the painful and damaging Bonding process.
The memory loss occurred when he escaped from their
facility, in a berzerker rage, that mad him more
animal than man. many years later (unlike the movie)
he was found by Heather Hudson and her husband, they
were part of the canadian department H program, also
called Alpha Flight. tehy (mostly Heather) got him to
be human again, and he worked for them for a while,
he joined the department H, but not as a memeber of
Aphla Flight, but to get a chance to hunt down
Wendigo (another canadian berzerker) but ended up
tangleing with not just Wendigo, but the Hulk as
well. Hulk wasnt the fighter then as he is now,
and could not really sink his claws into ol'greenskin.
as time went on Xavier ask Logon to join as his second
team of X-Men, he resigned from department H, and they
tried to stop him, he used the popular catch phrase
from the tv show for the first time "I go where I wanna go"
he had to fight alpha flight to escape, friends for years
loyal to each other but more loyal to thier goverment they
tried to restrain wolvie. But he made it away,
the rest is history

I own the movie and a few cameos were put in and Brian Singer worked
with stan lee for a few more, and if you have access to Wizard
magizine, there is a special issue I have with a bunch of X-men
secrets. such as: colossus is a late teen there drawing just a few
seconds before the kid runs accross the water, kitty pride, jubilee
are both classmate with Rogue. as are Iceman aka Bobby (Robert Drake)
and John (aka Pyro). some people speculate the fat kid is a young
Blob, but i cannot back that up.

Now normallyi would defend Magneto, after all he isnt a
villan in the normal terms, he is a solder in a war to
save his peopel and as we all know the rules of war are
a bit differant than normal fighting. Killing is an
acceptible practice as is sacrificing your own people
for the greater good.

Xavier, believes in peacful co-existance with humans,
is the only way to go. and protecting them from harm
aids in thier attempt for the"co-exsistance".

at one point Xavier had his friend convinced that
peacful co-exsistance would work and for a while
Magneto taught at Xaviers School and the New Mutants,
currently the students make up the X-Force team. he was a
bit harder on them and they became tougher students. but
soon he had to turn in his mantle of teach and go back to
war, the horrors of genosha were too great to be ignored
any longer; but thats another story.

hope i helped

Dan's Style is Saikyouu-Ryu
and I love that last move's name! A few things about Dan (and subsequently Sakura and the
others...)
Dan's father is apparently responsible for Sagat wearing an eye patch. The Thai master
killed him as a result. Dan sought to learn Shotokan Karate, he was expelled by Gouken
however, for not being able to lose his rage. This didn't set well with Dan, who
developed his own style. He has taken Sakura on as a "student" as well as Blanka (who it
turns out is his childhood buddy, Jimmy), but they both had their styles before he
started to train them. Sakura doesn't even see herself as a student, just a friend.

In the real world: Dan was created to mock Ryo and Roberto from the Art of Fighting and
King of Fighters games as they were two of the most horrendously obvious Ken/Ryu clones.
He dressed like Ryo with Roberto's hair and their "original" style of combat. He was
originally a joke charater in the games whose moves are purposefully weaker than the
shotokan fighters. However, he has become something of "master level" character, ie, you
haven't mastered the game until you can win with Dan. All and all, I 've always liked
him. Another quirk about Dan, apparently his punches and kicks are stronger than the
shotokan boys, because his special attacks suck so much.

It is pretty much established that it was the Canadian government who
engineered Wolverine's adamantium skeleton. This is alluded at in the
flashbacks that Wolverine endures in the movies.

What is interesting, is that Wolverine is probably a lot older than people
think. One phrase from the movie stands out, something like "he can be my
age, or your age even" (indicating prof. Xavier). There was a storyline
which insinuated that Wolverine was active as a paratrooper in the second
World War, but at that time was "only" very strong and with very sharp
senses. I particularly remember a comic strip where Logan's been dropped
down somewhere in Germany, had broken his foot - which subsequently
healed, and lights a match. He's surrounded by German troops. He grins,
pulls his combat knife, and the match goes out. Much screaming ensues.

So. What I believe is the case, is that Wolverine was first experimented
on by the Germans during WWII, but then they lost. The Canadians
"inherited" him, for instance through the infamous Paper Clip project
which netted the USA such scientists as Werner von Braun, and then
experimented on him some more. Wolverine became insanely difficult to
control after he had gotten his adamantium skeleton we all love, and then
escaped. Enter the movie :-)

Well, there's Iceman, and I believe Sunspot (Roberto) which first lights a
lighter, and then creates the ball of flame. Jubilee was probably there as
well, which someone mentioned.

Magneto hates persecution - first, he was persecuted as a Jew, and then he
discovered he was a mutant. Hey, presto! even more persecution. Magneto is
really more akin with the Israelis, and their "never again" politics. He's
just a tad bit more ruthless ;-)

Dr. Xavier believes that mankind and mutantkind can live together, and
that mutants are uniqely gifted in helping mankind. He's the goody
two-shoes.

I thinks its called Saikyo Ryu...

Sure the KI guys are goofy as anything, but from a fighting stand point they make great rank 8'ers. Its almost a given that an early ranked team has to do a hadicaped match against a KI guy at somepoint in my story =)
Them and Hugo....Hugo loves team battles.

There's a character named Kim Wu in KI?  Which version?

I created a young college student NPC with that name ages ago.

To add to this cavalcade of villainy:

1: A Spanish Ninja whose name I forget: dogged the players and taunted them
like the Frenchmen in Holy Grail.

2: Never got to use him, but I planned to bring in Doctor Evil with a master
plan to "rig wrestling."

3. As my version of Akuma was a malignant free roaming spirit who possessed
shotokan practitioners, I decided to make the Akuma of my alternate world
storyline Evil Dan.

4. Possessed versions of Mai Shiranui, Iori Yagami, Adon, and the girlfreind
fo one of the players.

5. Tyrant Eve, a combination of the T-Virus from Resident Evil and
Mitochondria from Parasite Eve.
