I had a nifty idea last night.  Everyone is, by now, familiar with United
Enforcement, the evil megacorp created for the sole purpose of pissing my
players off.

Well, I think UE would make a great sourcebook.  There's a lot of Street
Fighters they use, and the hardware available to them is great for a sci-fi
feel to the campaign.  And all those cyborgs and hybrids had to come from
somewhere, right?

Thing is, I'm stuck for a title.  So since we came up with some great ones
for the "contenders" thingy I'd like you guys to throw some cool ones my way
for the 'net book.

Some I'm considering include:

Corporate Warfare
United We Stand
For Love of Money
Wall Street Fighter (okay, this one's too lame)

kthxbye.

one adv I ran was when I had my pc's try to destroy a shadoloo base in
russia, but bad timing caused them to run into my version of the
"soviet super soldiers" illyana: who was a superb gymnast, nicolai: a
fighter who absorb and project energy attacks....and the really big
surprise...zangief!! these guys were assigned to destroy the base that
they thought the pc's were protecting..and of course a big fight broke
out..one pc
who was a ninja managed to sneak away fom the fight and try to
investigate the stronghold, zangief tried to follow him but the giant
russian isn't known for stealth and was quickly ambushed..allowing the
ninja to further investigate the base...later after the pc's and npc
heroes fight to a standstill..zangief walks back injured and bleeding
and collaspes in the snow and just when everybody sees this..they also
see seven soldiers riding on sleds driven by wolves...

to be continued

Just to re-enforce your belief Steve: Yes SF3: Third Strike has all of the characters. I belive it's 19 all together.
Love the book idea, now if only I was creative enough to come up with some names for ya..
When my Corprate oriented brother comes home maybe we'll have some suggestions.
How about:
"Fighting Fire with Firepower"? <Sounds like a superhero's catchphrase.>

So what happened was that everybody united and defeated the soldiers
and one soldier confessed that there were some "sinister experiments"
going on but they were already too late...so they stormed the fortress
and as they reached the science lab..a beam of light encased them into
a forcefield...and the leader of this project reveals
himself..dhakmar!! (never could find a purpose for him until now)
shadoloo made him offers he couldn't refuse...with a wicked smile
across his face he says "I think we found the perfect test subjects
for our creatures" and with that a somewhat large hole breaks through
the floor inside the forcefield...bringing fourth creatures of
prehistoric time, shadoloo has revived them and now they are deadlier
than ever...well after some fierce fighting...the ninja that snuck
away managed to shut off the device with a well placed shuriken, the
creatures fall dead and decompose..big explosion and dhakmar escapes
vowing revenge on these characters

so the pc's have one more dot in allies

zangief may or may not stay with that group

Subject: Re: CHAMPS question...haaaaay J. Scott Pitman!!!

Demon Fist

Jazzy Jeff's version

Created with the CHAMPS system

Punch Maneuver

Tag: Punch

Path

: First the fighter must learn Psychokinetic Channeling (focus 3), and then he is ready to move on to Demon Fist (Punch 3, Psychokenetic Channeling)

Description

: The fighter attacks his opponent with a punch engulfed in hellfire that spreads to the opponent’s body after knocking him clean off his feet.

System

: The user of a Maneuver must defeat the defender in a contested Focus roll. If he succeeds, the defender's body is consumed with
a sheet of hellfire, taking the Maneuver's damage. Each round thereafter, the attacker can continue to expend Chi to keep the power active and causing damage. The affected character can counteract this expenditure of Chi by... (chose one)

1. Spending a turn rolling on the ground (treat as a knockdown with -2 Speed the following turn)

2. Spending a Chi point

3. Passing a Willpower check

4. passing a Stamina check

Basic Modifiers

: Chi 2 + 1/turn (-75), Speed +0 (-0), Damage +3 (+100), Move +0 (-0) = +25

Advantages/Weaknesses

: Destroy Body (+400), Knockdown (+15x3) = +445

Technique/Maneuver Requirements

: Punch 3 (-30), Psychokinetic Channeling (-2) = -32

Total Construction Points

: 25 + 445 - 32 = 438

Basic Power Point Cost

: 8.76 (9)

Special Power Points Modifiers

: -5 PP from Psy. Channeling, new total 4 PP

Power Points

: Any 4 (Power Point cost may be reduced for Styles that have a Punch Tag Reduction)

I have marked in red the parts of the Maneuver that were left out.

First, you did not identify the Maneuver with a version title. While this may not seem that important, it will help tell your Maneuver apart from others if someone else makes up a "Demon Fist" Maneuver, a fairly common name for a punch maneuver, i would suppose. This way you can say "I know the Crazy Sensei Dodge Maneuver and the Jazzy Jeff Demon Fist Maneuver: and people won't have to ask "Which dodge? From what web page? Which demon fist? It saves a lot of headache.

The second thing you left out was the basic type of Technique the Maneuver is. Obviously, this is a Punch Maneuver. This needs to be added so that the Maneuver can be counted for other Maneuvers that can be used with or that protect from certain types of Maneuvers, Punch Maneuvers for example. It should be noted that the Maneuver's Tag is not the same thing as the Maneuvers basic technique type! (For more see Step 2: Detormining Maneuver Type in the CHAMPS book).

With only the Punch Technique as one of the Maneuvers Prerequisites, the Maneuver's Tag is Punch (without the Focus). If you would like Focus to be part of the Maneuver's Tag, then the Maneuver must require the character to have a Focus Requirement. Since we assume that characters will already have a Focus of 3 from purchasing Psy. Channeling, you'd have to have a Focus 4 or higher requirement. However, this is optional, so I have not changed your Maneuver's requirements.

A Maneuver as part of your prerequisites will subtract 2 from your Construction Point total. Psychokenetic Channeling does that for you.

Destroy Body requires that you chose one of the ways listed to counter it's effect and add that detail in the Maneuver's description. I have included the four choices from which you have to chose here in the Maneuver.

The Knockdown Bonus requires 15 construction points per +1 damage of the Maneuver, so that comes to 45 points. Your Maneuver had the Bonus/Weaknesses only at the cost of 400 for destroy body, although you had listed a level 2 Knockdown as well. The figures above show the correct total.

So the only really big mistake was not getting the Tag for the Maneuver right. Other than that, Demon Fist designed very well!

Rib Quaker is next...

Rib Quaker

Jazzy Jeff's version

Created with the CHAMPS system

Focus Maneuver

Tag: Focus

Path

: First, the character learns Shockwave (Punch 4, Focus 2). He may then progress to Rib Quaker (Focus 3, Shockwave)

Description

: The fighter focuses energy into his fist and causes an extremely localized earthquake in his opponent’s ribcage!

System

: Use the modifers below. The Rib Quaker ignores Blocks and the victim's Stamina.

Basic Modifiers

:Willpower 1, Chi 1 (-100), Speed -1 (-50), Damage +5 (+200), Move -2 (-25) = +25

Advantages/Weaknesses

: Ignores Stamina (+175), Ignores Blocks (+375) = +550

Technique/Maneuver Requirements

: Focus 3 (-30), Shockwave (-2) = -32

Total Construction Points

: 25 + 550 - 32 = 543

Basic Power Point Cost

: 10.86 (11 PP)

Special Power Points Modifiers

: -6 from Shockwave, new total of 5 Power Points

Power Points

: Any 5 (Power Point cost may be reduced for Styles that have a Punch Tag Reduction)

Before I begin, let me say I really like the concept of this Maneuver and the way it turned out!

Without a Punch prerequisite, the Maneuver only has a Focus Tag. Of couse, if you were going to add a Punch prerequisite, it would have to be greater than that of Shockwave, which has a Punch 4 requirement.

The math looks good, but again remember that you get a -2 Construction Point reduction for haing Shockwave as a requirement. You also seem to have too much counted as a construction point cost reduction, as you had -110 points in the Maneuver you sent.

Luckily, the math came up right after all. But I would like for you to take a look at the following rules from CHAMPS. If the math had been correct, your original version of this Maneuver would have been illegal for not having enough Power Points:

Damage

Depending on the damage bonus a particular Maneuver has (if it has one), the Maneuver is required to equal, after all modifiers, a certain Power Point cost. The following chart shows the possible damage ratings and the minimum final Power Point cost of the Maneuver. This becomes important later. Write down how many Power Points your Maneuver requires. See Street Fighter: The Storytelling Game for more information about the Damage modifier.

Power Point Requirements based on Damage

+1 or below              1 Power Point

+1 - +5:                     2 - 4 Power Points (before Style Modifiers)

+6 - +7:                     5 - 6 Power Points (before Style Modifiers)

Subject: [Streetfighter] CHAMPS question...haaaaay J. Scott Pitman!!!

I've been looking through CHAMPS (IMHO it's a great idea...spelling and grammer errors aside ;) and something that should have been done by WW at the start...) and i've gotten hung up on style creation.

Could you clarify your style creation a bit better?
1) Exactly what are 'required maneuvers?'
2) Could you perhaps provide an example of style creation? You made an example for everything else, but not style creation.

Ummm...that's it for now.

I dunno about that. I've seen wolverine get stabbed with a spear through the midsection, obviously puncturing major organs, and pull that sucker right out and keep on fighting. His regeneration power in Marvel is at Remarkable (30), on the same level as Beasts' climbing ability!
If I had to judge it as a DM, I'd say that there would be little chance of Wolverine getting killed from a slash to the throat. The bullet through the eye socket seemed like a better idea. Just my opinion, though.

Should focus for damage be 25 or 30 instead?

with wolvie's healing factor, yes, it is. it says in the aforementioned
issue during "Onslaught" that to kill him, you'd have to cut his head off,
and move it before it gets reattched! a simple little thing like a slit
throat wouldn't kill him.

Luck? Its just a roll of the dice...

Subject: Haaaaay Pittman!
3 more moves for ya and I updated Demon Fist and Rib Quaker <G> (this is fun!...i like numbers)

The math on all these should all be correct...

Demon Fist

Jazzy Jeff’s Version

Punch + Focus Maneuver

Path: First the fighter must learn Psychokinetic Channeling (focus 3.)

The fighter attacks his opponent with a punch engulfed in hellfire that spreads to the opponent’s body after knocking him clean off his feet.

Prerequisites: Punch 3 (-30), Focus 4 (-60), Psychokinetic Channeling (-2) = -92

Basic Modifiers: Chi 2 + 1/turn (-75), Speed +2 (+75), Damage +3 (+100), Move +0 (-0) = +100

Bonuses/Weaknesses: Destroy Body (+400), Knockdown (+45) = +445

Total Construction Points: 100 + 445 – 92 = 463

Basic Power Point Cost: 9.26 (9)

Special Power Point Modifiers: -5 from Psychokinetic Channeling = 4

Power Points: Zack’s North American Blend 2, Any 4

System: If the target of the Demon Fist takes any damage he must succeed in a contested focus roll against his attacker or continue to take damage from the Demon Fist every following round his attacker spends a point of chi to sustain the attack. The target may end the attack at any time by expending a point of chi to extinguish the flames.

Rib Quaker

Jazzy Jeff’s Version

Punch + Focus Maneuver

Path: The fighter must first learn Shockwave (Punch 4, Focus 2) and may then go on to learn Rib Quaker (Focus 3)

The fighter focuses energy into his fist and causes an extremely localized earthquake in his opponent’s ribcage!

Prerequisites: Punch 5 (-120), Focus 3 (-30), Shockwave (-2) = -152

Basic Modifiers: Willpower 1, Chi 1 (-100), Speed +0 (-0), Damage +5 (+200), Move +0 (-0) = +100

Bonuses/Weaknesses: Altered Damage Technique: Focus (+25), Ignores Stamina (+175), Ignores Blocks (+375) = +575

Total Construction Points: 100 + 575 – 152 = 523

Basic Power Point Cost: 10.46 (10)

Special Power Point Modifiers: -6 from Shockwave = 4

Power Points: Zack’s North American Blend 2, Any 4

System: The fighter attacking with the Rib Quaker rolls his damage with the modifiers above. The Rib Quaker ignores blocks and the victim’s stamina.

Standing Thrust Kick

Jazzy Jeff’s Version

Kick + Athletics Maneuver

Path: None

An aerial opponent’s nightmare, the fighter hits his opponent with a vicious thrusting kick that utilizes the majority of the muscles in his lower body to brute-force his hapless opponent into dreamland.

Prerequisites: Kick 4 (-80), Athletics 2 (-20) = -100

Basic Modifiers: Speed +0 (none), Damage +6 (+325), Move –2 (-25) = +300

Bonuses/Weaknesses: Knockdown (Aerial) (+60)

Total Construction Points: 300 + 60 – 100 = 260

Basic Power Point Cost: 5.2 (5)

Special Power Point Modifiers: None

Power Points: Zack’s North American Blend 4, Any 5

Mass Driver

Jazzy Jeff’s Version

Kick + Focus Maneuver

Path: First the fighter must learn the Flying Heel Stomp (Athletics 3, Kick 2, Jump) and Shockwave (Punch 4, Focus 2); he may then go on to learn the Mass Driver (Kick 3, Focus 4, Flying Heel Stomp, Shockwave)

The fighter jumps into the air and then, wreathed in spiraling energy, impacts the ground and rocks the room with a mighty explosion that hurls his opponents to the ground.

Prerequisites: Kick 3 (-30), Focus 3 (-30), Flying Heel Stomp, Shockwave = -60

Basic Modifiers: 1 Willpower, 1 Chi (-100), Speed +0 (-0), Damage +4 (+150), Move +0 (-0) = +150

Bonuses/Weaknesses: Aerial (Affects Crouching Maneuvers) (+75), Altered Damage Technique: Focus (+25), Improved Surround Pound (+500), Knockback Equal to Damage (+100), Improved Knockdown (+100) = 800

Total Construction Points: 150 + 800 – 60 = 890

Basic Power Point Cost: 17.8 (18)

Special Power Point Modifiers: -6 from Shockwave, -5 from Flying Heel Stomp = 7

Power Points: Zack’s North American Blend 5, Associated Maneuver 7

 Ground Pounder

Jazzy Jeff’s Version

Punch + Grab Maneuver

Path:

In a maneuver sure to leave an opponent wondering what just happened, a fighter grabs his opponent and flips him to the ground in such a way as to leave his head in a prime position to be run into the ground on the business end of the fighter’s fist.

Prerequisites: Punch 2 (-20), Grab 3 (-30), Throw (-2) = -52

Basic Modifiers: Speed +0 (-0), Damage +3 (+100), Move +0 (-0) = +100

Bonuses/Weaknesses: Ignores Blocks (free), Traveling Slam (+200), Improved Knockdown (+225), No Combo (-15), Straight Line Only (-50), Useless Vs. Aerial (-200), Useless vs. Crouching (-50) = 110

Total Construction Points: 100 + 110 – 52 = 158

Basic Power Point Cost: 3.16 (3)

Special Power Point Modifiers: None

Power Points: Any 3

um, actually sabertooth has done that, "slit his throut" but he tore
out the front of his neck everything, you could see the adamantium of
his neck in the picture. he survived, and the reason Hulk was Able to
kill wolvie, was a spinal and/or brain injury affects his healing
factor, plus he wasnt nearly the fighter he was then as he is now.

Anyways, Thats my Two Cents . . .

Ok, don't know much about it, but how about;
-Flesh Factory (hm...)
-Brutal Control
-Ego Incorporated
-Cheater's Support
-Cheat Fighter(?)
-Sinister Streets
-Beat the weak (hm.. hybrids: Eat the weak)
-Blood Money
-Blood monkey (haha <cough>)
-Fighter Perfection

Hope any of these go with the concept.

Where can i find this 'contender' book
-which obviously cannot be the 'Contenders'
book that used to be in print?
Or is it the 'Contenders' book?
Where to find it? hm?

well.
Actually, I'd go with the drop him in a pool
of acid idea, as all that would remain if
you could keep him submerged would be the
skeleton.
This might require dropping him in the middle
of a good-sized acid lake, or an adamantium
chamber, which would be quite expensive, but
there being so many villains with too much
money, it could happen.
Or maybe you'd only need an adamantium cage,
but then he may rip off pieces until he
fits through? No, I'd take that chance.

To cook him with microwaves would destroy
his flesh and blood, so therefore he
would instantly die if shot with a huge
microwave cannon, or placed in a huge
microwave oven. 'Pop', goes the Wolverine.
-If there could be made strong enough microwaves.
With supers being in a supernatural world,
I suppose it couuld be.

Which reminds me;
Has anybody made rules for
Firearms Techniques?
Like making a Pistol technique with maneuvers,
Rifles, so on?

I made a few Pistol maneuvers,
but we haven't needed them yet,
as the mood it gives has not
fitted our games.
And also we've been playing
in a medevial China-setting, so->

And -sorcery?
We've boiled it down to being Focus,
which relates to the original system,
but made a new Magic Theory knowledge ability
requirement for some of the more
ritual magic/classic fantasy spells.
Any thoughts?

Um, actually in the updated X-man book (came out sometime in the late 80's or
early 90's) it listed his regeneration as Shift-X (150) and said that at that
level, he'd get back a point of health every six seconds.

Hmm.. In the medievil orietnal china setting run by herr Tevik on this list (Hellu Stele), we all created standard kung fu characters with weapons. But instead of using all the old maneuvers in the book, we all started creating lots of weapon maneuvers which we played out in the game(the creating part).
After some playing my Character: Whirling Thunder Hawk, developed his unique Kung fu style. It involves Speed, Lightning, Aerial Maneuvers and possibly Air elemental.

This Storm Kung Fu style just reminded me of his style(which I don't yet have a name for)..

As for the maneuvers, they will be available at my website as soon as I get it to work again.
I will notify the list when it does..
(WARNING: All maneuvers are inspired from Wuxiaand Hong Kong Action flicks.)

What is he a god???
How the hell does one even do damage to someone with 8 Stamina...providing
you can even hit him with his 5 DEX?

I still think that some of the World Warriors could give Wolverine a good
fight...but not with Stats like those.

Zangief! Zangief! Zangief! Punch him silly then Pile Drive his ass!

I also think Chun Li, Vega, or Bison could handle Wolvie even at those
physicals.

Bison JABS for 14 dice. (PK Channeling)
He also has that cool Psychic Vice thing goin' on. (soak with your Int
against my 12 dice or be Dizzied, Stamina Boy)

And there's Chun Li and her cute "Lightning Leg on Speed 7" trick.

Vega would just keep grappling him really fast from far away. (Choke Throw,
et al).

If I had to judge it as a DM, I'd say that there would be little
chance of Wolverine getting killed from a slash to the throat. The
bullet through the eye socket seemed like a better idea. Just my
opinion, though.

Looking over the champs damage stuff...why is Strength + focus for damage +250 points when the benifit 'X For Damage' is only +30?

Should focus for damage be 25 or 30 instead?

No. Strength + Focus equals two scores, with a possible maximum of 16 damage, each at a possible of 8 maximum). Using "X" for damage gives the character one score with a maximum of 8 for damage, a much weaker damage rating. To even get a good damage rating with such a Maneuver you would need superhuman scores, not counting other bonuses that the Maneuver might have (which have their own costs).

Mass Driver

Special Power Point Modifiers: -6 from Shockwave, -5 from Flying Heel Stomp = 7

Power Points: Zack’s North American Blend 5, Associated Maneuver 7

Although not mentioned in the rules as an oversight, a Maneuver is only decreased in Power Point cost by the highest total Power Point cost of a required Maneuver. In other words, this Maneuver only recieves -6 PP from Shockwave, and not the -5 from Flying Heel Stomp. This Maneuver would be illegal.

Totally my fault for not going into more detail about reduction in costs for required Maneuvers. I have added a Frequently asked Questions page to the CHAMPS home page, and have added a clarification of that rule. Sorry about that!

I have added a FAQ page to CHAMPS. I'm glad you brought this oversight to my attention right off the bat! I included the question and your name is credited under it. Kinght of the Black Rose also has a new Bonus on the page.

As we make up new Maneuvers, I hope to answer any more questions and place them on the page, and hopefully you guys will come up with new Bonuses and Weaknesses to add to CHAMPS.

I'd also like to add any Maneuvers you wish to submit to a page in CHAMPS, as well as Backgrounds and Styles.

There was one Maneuver that had the rule I mentioned above applied in the CHAMPS rules: Mind Control.

Mind Control

CHAMPS version

Created with the CHAMPS system

The fighter takes over the mind of his opponent

Focus Maneuver

Tag: Focus

To Learn

: This is an incredible maneuver, and learning it can take years. First, the practitioner must learn Psychic Vise {focus 4}, and Mind Reading {telepathy}. He may learn Psychic Vise and Telepathy/Mind Reading in any order. Then he is finaly prepared to learn Mind Control {focus 5, telepathy, psychic vise}

Power Points

: ler drit 5

System

: The maneuver can be used on a character with no willpower left, but not a character with an honor of 10. The victim must be within the attacker's focus + wits in hexes. Both roll intelligence, and if the attacker receives more successes, he has taken over the mind for a period of time. The victim's Honor vs. the attacker's Willpower may be rolled when the victim is forced to go against his own morals. It is rumored that conditioning to make a victim a permanent slave is possible.

1 success - 1 round of combat (10 turns)

2 successes - 1 hour

3 successes - 1 day

4 successes - 1 week

5 successes - 1 month

Modifiers

: cost: 2 chi, speed -3, damage: none (see above), move: none

CHAMPS SCORES:

Basic Modifiers

: cost: 2 chi (-100), speed -3 (+100), damage: none (see above), move: none = 0

Advantages/Weaknesses

: Mind Control (600) = +600

Technique/Maneuver Requirements

: focus 5 (-120), telepathy (-2), psychic vise (-2) = -122

Total Construction Points

: 478

Basic Power Point Cost

: 9.56 (10)

Special Power Points Modifiers

: -6 PP from Psychic Vise, Total PP = 4

Power Points

: Kabaddi (CHAMPS version), Ler Drit (CHAMPS version) 2, Akido (CHAMPS version), Baraquah (CHAMPS version), Lua (CHAMPS version), Silat (CHAMPS version) 3, Any 4

First of all, sorry to everyone for sending these answers in cut-up e-mails. I'll keep the number of e-mails down in the future, answering everything I can in a single e-mail.
You have your Tags right, but you need to answer the following questions:

Is Demon Fist a Punch or Focus Maneuver?
Is Rib Quaker a Punch or Focus Maneuver?
Is Mass Drviver a Kick or Focus Maneuver?

(Ground Pounder os obviously a Grab maneuver and Standing Thrust Kick is obviously a Kick Maneuver)

Each Maneuver has a Tag that indicates which Styles will receive reduced costs when purchasing it, but must also be a basic type of Maneuver, such as Punch, Kick, Grab, etc.
See Step Two: Determining Maneuver Type for more details.

When you have answered these questions and we have fixed Mass driver, I'll add the Maneuver to the CHAMPS page, along with the Maneuvers from Knight of the Black Rose.

I'm working on an example of Style Creation.

some fighters would knock even wolvie senseless only thing was the
regeneration that kept him going
