Actually, MI-6 is a British Secret Service agency (well, as far as I know).
Als i forgot to mention that MI-6 is also the agency that JAmes Bond
supposedly works out of. Hmmmmmm. Gadgets, eh? *mind brews*

And while doing a total military resource book is a great idea, I think it's
a bit of a heavy endeavor for one with my schedule (sigh). Even so, I hope
to make whatever I do exciting and above all useful.

Yeah i thought about that but i left it out because it
would be to unbalancing in a streetfighter game. the
-5 diff to damage rolls would be eanough.

Hello everyone. I've returned from my two weeks in China, and it was an
interesting trip to say the least. I filled about ten floppies' worth of
disks with photos, including some great shots of Tiananmen Square, the
Forbidden City, the Great Wall, Confucius' Temple, and my sister-in-law (the
little camera hog :p). Select shots will be posted on my web site in the
near future, but I figured everyone would like to know I've returned.

/me goes off to slog through all the backlog of mail that piled up while I
was gone.

you do, eh? cool. I'd like to ask him a few questions on why some of the
material presented in The Perfect Warrior is in direct conflict with
material from the rulebooks... Didn't White Wolf bother to make sure their
freelancers were familiar with the material?

I did "Speedy" (the Sumo Turtle hybrid) a while back. I gave him Toughskin
and Maka Wara to simulate his shell, and I think I gave him a natural +2 to
soak versus body attacks.

I've both run it and played in it. both times it was wildly different and
it never fails to amaze me just how differently two groups can play through
the same adventure. The end battle, for example, in the time I rain it
involved not a grand melee, but a gasoline fire, jeep chase, and one player
bravely holding off Phoenix (at rank 2) while his teammates grabbed Xaudo
and escaped.

Subject: Streetfighter Campaign
Here's an Idea. What if we start up a major campaign on this list.
Like everybody on the list could play with separate groups, but before running scenarios they consult with the GM(or GM team.)weither the scenario fits in or not, and maybe all fighters live in the same city(Which could be a fictious one or a real one), but can be whatever they like. This way we could have a campaign(starting with fresh characters) where we would build up our fighters, and set them up against each other in Tournaments, challenges and such.
We've tried one such campaign in Trondheim, Norway Some years back and it worked out pretty well.(If you ignore the fact that noone had any control over what scenarios was played.
It ended up with 20 different Tourist Trap scenarios.)
I'm just shooting the Idea out in the air here.
What do you guys on the list think???
Could it work???

Well the 'Fists are still at large, and the players hate them. Fixer
currently has a broken nose from a sucker punch, and unfortunately Sanjo's
brains were splattered across the wall of Phoenix's temple when Lara Croft
(an occasional ally of the players; she makes for great adventure hooks)
pumped a round into his forehead. He'd been trying to slow the escape of
the aforementioned jeep by lifting the back bumper off the ground, so she
blew his head off from the back seat.

I was expecting the fists to die when I ran it but they didn't
my players beat each other down from that hallucination gas, when it
cleared the fists came out, and jean lemonte was the only one standing
cammy had to save their butts...the fists and qebsenef
escaped..vowing
revenge on the heroes and cammy

I ran it more than once, I'll tell you the other times ran it

Though, 'tis blasphemy to mention this henious evil on the sacred Street

tough question, considering the number of characters I've generated over the
years... but the few who leap to mind include;

Chow Yen, the Dragon Princess - a corporate-sponsored, high-ranking master
of several forms of Kung Fu, the Princess is your typical femme fatale.
Always scheming and manipulating people, and being really charming while
doing it.

Bloody Mary - one of Vega's most dangerous Spanish Ninja, Mary is a split
personality in the worst way. Infatuated with Vega since the day she met
him, this Capoeira-trained foreign exchange student soon found herself a
prisoner of Shadoloo and subjected to a series of brainwashing experiments
designed to produce an undercover soldier who could be triggered anytime and
was virtually undetectable. It worked, and as Mary wears a mask while
working for Vega, no one has yet discovered her identity. The fact that she
has a completely different style when not in assassin mode further serves to
obfuscate things.

Miyamoto Otaka - every GM has at least one super-twink fighter they like to
pull out to really make people wet 'em every now and then, and Otaka is
mine. Originally an assassin for the Shadow Dragon ninja clan, Otaka nearly
met her end when a traitor she was assigned to eliminate fought back harder
than she expected. She underwent reconstructive cybernetics and became an
even more vicious fighter than before.

The Four Horsemen - A team of Shadoloo fighters consisting of a former merc
(War), a corrupt Kabaddi priest (Famine), a rabid rat hybrid (Pestilence)
and a Ler Drit commando (Death), they're one of Bison's alpha teams. My
players have been fortunate enough not to meet them yet.

I'm also rather fond of some of the hybrids I've produced, including The
Furry Flurry (Buster the Boxing Bunny and Bailey, the Kickboxing Kangaroo),
Speedy the Sumo Turtle (Dex 2, Zen No Mind, Toughskin, Maka Wara, pulls his
head into his shell to Block), and Bud the Frog (complete with Stunning
Croak).

For me, it was Kagemada Yûka, a japanese girl practicing Feminine
Kickboxing. She was the daughter of the president of a big company, and her
father didn't considered her nor her fighting style to be worth anything. So
she pressed out, and eventually became known in the arena. Then her father
died, not leaving her with any chance to prove herself. She then continued
to fight, but was no more "miss nice girl". She went hardcore-gothic, and
renamed herself Liz'Troy, playing the bassist in a punk-goth band. She
became Rank 6, and was shot at by a mad fan during a concert.

included one of mine, and another player's.

Mine was Ryoko, an adaptation of the young Judoka from Fighter's History.
Ryoko conned her parents into letting her go overseas to start training for
the Olympics. What they didn't know was her idea of training was getting
onto a Street Fighting team. The result? A nine-year-old Street Fighter
who was all speed and no Strength. I think her physicals were 1/4/2 at Rank
1 and they didn't change much during the time I played her. She was great
because no one took her seriously and she often had to goad opponents into
fighting her because they didn't want to pound on a little girl.

The other, and this guy is probably the funniest Street Fighter character
I've ever seen, was Jelly Roll. Jelly Roll was a fat geek with no physicals
to speak of except a five Stamina for reasons I still don't understand. He
worked at a comic book store and studied Silat at the gym across the street.
The only reason I recall this player choosing Silat was due to the fact that
you can create a starting character who has both Zen No Mind and Sonic Boom.
So that was Jelly Roll. He was great because people always assumed he was
Sumo because of his size, and since he couldn't move very far and didn't
have any good attacks but the Sonic Boom, he became the team's artillery
piece. Our entire strategy revolved around getting people lined up with
Jelly Roll so he could Sonic Boom them. Ryoko fought him once, and I
remember her blindly charging across the ring only to be slapped silly by a
Sonic Boom at the end of the round. (Remember, she had a two Stamina.) She
lost the fight, but the sight of her trying to Suplex that fatso is still
one of the funniest things I've ever come across in Street Fighter.

...oh, and I almost forgot;

at one point Ryoko and her fellow teammate, a sixteen-year-old Air
Elemental, had to arrange for schooling in order to stay with their team,
especially Ryoko since she was only nine. The one or two sessions we played
with those two characters trying to deal with school life was probably some
of the most enjoyable Street Fighter I've ever played. Imagine Ryoko, who
the week before had been shot at by Shadoloo thugs, reacting to an
overly-aggressive bully on the playground. And Maureen, for whom at that
age image is everything, trying to hide the fact that she's a Street
Fighter... who can fly, no less. "Fist-Fight High", as we dubbed the game,
was easily the most unique campaign scenario ever. I'll miss it terribly.

Subject: Re: player strategies
Well, you can abort to any block maneuver. Not just the basic block.

My only problem with blocking is that it doesn't reduce damage that well...(it just might be a personal thing. Every time i've blocked i've STILL gotten banged up for lots of damage.)

I think it's a personal thing.  Blocking is a pretty good way to avoid damage.  It's not the best, but it works.  You can't beat a Punch Defense for soaking up a Dragon Punch...

Additionally, blocking in the present system doesn't let you maneuver into a better position. You get a +2 speed bonus the round after, but this is to compensate for simply sitting in one spot and taking damage without dealing damage to you opponent. Also, if they manage to dizzy you your bonus is neigated. If they knock you down your bonus is defeated. If they throw you, you're screwed.

Unless you're knocked down via a Grab, or other maneuver that ignores Blocks, no maneuver can cause a Knockdown on a Blocking character.  That means Foot Sweep isn't half as nasty anymore.

Unless they're throwing a projectile attack you can very easily aviod ALL damage by simply moving out of the way.  It's probably just a personal preferience of my own to ignore blocking...but it's working so far.

more power to you.  I sometimes make characters with high Stamina and have them wade in swinging Fierces with no regard for their own safety.  Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

I remember a very similar scenario in our games. Trying to explain to
the authorities why this innocent looking 12 year old girl came to
school covered in bruises every Monday became a real problem... on the
up side, it gave her a real incentive to 'perfect' her opponents.

Some of my personal favorites:

Rawhide (Country and Western Kickboxing) He used to do
the Achey-Breaky whenever he won a match... which was
rarely, because he never really learned how to Block.
His player had alternate names for his special
maneuvers: Buffalo Punch was Cow Punch, Handstand Kick
was Donkey Kick, Slide Kick was Leg Lariat...

Iron Head Junior (Wrestling) I ran a pro-wrestling
campaign once, and this NPC was a second-generation
Japanese wrestler who liked to use Flying Headbutts.
He was insanely fearless, and a real crowd-pleaser.
When his tag-team partner abandoned him to a
double-team, the players were actually booing like
real wrestling fans watching their hero get screwed
over. After that he went on a rampage, ambushing his
betrayers at every opportunity. Then he teamed up with
one of the PC's ("The Suplex Machine") and together
they won the tag straps. "Junior", as we
affectionately called him, was basically my Deus Ex
Machina in that Chronicle.

Yuri "The Russian Bear" Andropov (Sanbo) Basically a
Zangeif clone, Yuri was the terror of my last
chronicle. His player was merciless. He won a fight
once with his Block-Bearhug-Suplex Dizzy Combo. The
Bearhug dizzied his opponent, and the Suplex knocked
her out. Nobody wanted to fight him after that! He
ended up as the highest-ranked fighter in the league.
The rest of us had to design our characters with him
as the "industrial standard" which forced us to make
better fighters, so he was a huge help to us in that
regard.

Eduardo Lopez (Pankration) An NPC in our current
Chronicle... one of my players has a monster of a
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsuist. Eduardo constantly bad-mouths
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, saying the Gracies are a bunch of
fakes and their students are wimps, and has issued an
open challenge for any Brazilian Jiu-Jitsuist to prove
him wrong. The player took the bait, and Lopez kicked
his ass. Voila, the player now has an arch-enemy! I'm
gonna milk that storyline for all it's worth... I
might even have a Gracie show up!

-Yasu

This discussion about favourite characters has got me thinking of some of
the past adventures I have played in. In one session, our group was in a
team fight. 4 of us against 4 of them. In round 2, my boxer dropped his
opponent and the special forces guy on our team dizzied his opponent. Well
in round 3, the special forces guy decided to hold off and let his opponent
recover. Well that train of thought was just absurd to my boxer, so he
floored him. The remaining 7 rounds were spent with the two teammates
arguing over "honour" while the rest of our team cleaned up the remaining
two opponents. It was kind of amusing. How would you guys deal with honour
in that situation?

K.
Sorry anout that last message. Goddamn mail client was acting all
weird. I'll have to resort to good ol' reliable PINE.

Anyway...in this case I would renalize the boxer sdome nour for clocking
the dizzied fighter. However, I would also penalize both the boxer and the
special forces fighter for arguing during a match,

There's a time and a place...

Looks like my ISP's mail server is chewing up my messages (again).

Somewhat annoying.
Anyway, in repsonse o Mike's post...I would penalize the boxer
some honor for clocking the dizzied opponent.
The I would penalize both the boxer and the SF fighter glory
for arguing during a match.

There's a time and a place.

I may even give the other two winning fighters some additional
glory because they had to fight in their team members stead.

Now..if you'll excuse my...I have an ISP to blow up....

I think the favreite characters I've ever made are...

Dominique "ChinChin" Hawkins: The flakey french Shotokan Fighter. She was fun because she was my first character ever. Being a die-hard Ryu/Ken fan she was based off of them.
It was always fun practicing with her. All of the moves she was working on forced her to spin and she gauged her practice routines by how fast they knocked her down.

Eiji "Edge" Shinjo: My testimet to the "blocks are useless" opinion. He doesn't have a single point in block and he kicks ass. I've been knocked out a couple of times buy my win:loss ratio is still like 30:1 with him.

Mr. Panda: The ever present companion of a JKD fighter named Aurora Pheonix. He's a five dot Panda Hybrid sumo fighter that I modeled after Ranma Sauotome's father Genma in panda form.
He was going to be one of the major NPCs in one of my earlier Streetfighter campaigns that never got off the ground.
"The golden rule: you NEVER one round Mr. Panda. It just isn't done."

Magnus: Based off the same named character from chrono trigger he was the ancient fey practitioner of the thought extinct "Art of the Shadow."
The Art of the Shadow was a heavily focused-based style that I created. The later versons were actually (IMHO) fairly balenced. All focus with a bit of block (energy reflection and forms of Maka Wara and San He.)

Those are just my favrites.

here's one of my favorites

one of my players has a street fighter character whose name is jinx
and of course she's chinese...what i did was that I ran a
confrontation with chimu nihon (the characters from the 2nd edition
street fighter book) saying that she deserted the team a long time ago
and they want her back one way or another, she was with other player
characters, and stray laser fire was hitting from an unknown
direction
so a fight ensued...the other players mopped the floor with the
japanese team but were too weak when the real bad guys showed up
a couple of cybernectic ninjas they beat the players to a pulp and
kidnapped orihime from the japanese team and jinx from the players
team...to their boss, so the conscious members of chimu nihon had to
team up with the players to fight a greater evil.ya'll see where I'm
going with this yet?? and old movie but a classic can you guess which
one??

I bought a DVD player a few days ago, and one of the DVDs I picked up with
it was the SF anime. I've already got both versions ("regular" and "uncut")
on VHS, and I haven't had time to watch the DVD yet. But I'm curious; does
anyone else out there have the DVD? If so, is the blurb on the back cover
about the feature "being restored to its original theatrical release" mean
that it's letterboxed, has the infamous "shower scenes" intact, etc? Or is
it the same as the unrated version released on VHS? I'm curious because I
don't recall it ever being theatrically released here in the 'States, so I'm
wondering which version they mean...

oh, and PS: for the fella who asked about good adventures, the "Hook, Line,
and Sinker" articles in Warriors' Pride are an excellent source of adventure
ideas. You can find Warriors' Pride in the Vault on eGroups.

i made stats way back when (when the RPG had jsut come out, and i had just
got secrets of shadoloo), i made stats for mirror versions of Balrog, Vega,
Sagat, and Bison. they were a foursome of former-shadoloo operatives, who
had turned their collective back to Bison. their leader, the LerDrit master,
was (as i planned it) a former lover of Bison's. the four of them were
nasty... mostly cause i had no idea of that little thing called "balance".
truth be told, any of them could probably kick the living Chi out of Bison,
without breaking much of a sweat...

Luck? Its just a roll of the dice...

Shadowroo...when Australian animals go bad... :P

Since I was the one who ran Street Fighter the most in
our group, I never really had the chance to develop
any decent PCs. NPCs on the other hand, I had to make
interesting, since the group kept beating them...and
beating them...and (you get the idea). Some of my
more interesting teams and villains are...

The Elementals: (Shadowlaw)
4 Special Forces fighters, each with a different
Elemental Power, lead by a high ranked Ler Drit
practitioner calling himself "Chaos".

Ragin' Cajuns: (Shadowlaw)
Lead by the Wu Shu Hillbilly Dixie Dare, these
critters (one of my few animal hybrid teams) were the
terror of New Orleans.

The Wrecking Krew: (Shadowlaw)
A former street gang, turned over to one of
Shadowlaw's cybernetics geniuses to "improve their
performance in the ring."

Dragon Master:
A World-Warrior class Ninja, he was one of the
team's allies, until dying of a rare form of Dim Mak.
(The actual killing touch, not the version listed in
the book, which, I believe, is really toned down from
the stories and legends.)

Kevin J. Sleet:
Not a Street Fighter, per se, but rather the CEO of
Bio-Tech Research, a Shadowlaw-owned science
corporation researching the hybrid condition. BTR was
the corp that "created" one of the PCs in my group.

Subject: here's an adv. idea!!
I was just thinking about this one...

you could start it off with the bio tech labs creating a new type of
experimental parasite for assassination methods for shadoloo, one of
the scientists gets a change of heart and decides to steal the
parasite and destroy it, but during the course of this something
happens and the cannister breaks, infecting the scientist with the
parasite, he or she are fleeing their captors when they come across
our "good guys" the question which side will the player's choose??

if they choose to help the scientist, and of course smash the bad
guys
then they will have to help the sceintist get to a certain "secret
location" to get rid of the parasite...but in the meantime they are
going to have to acquire drugs not only to sedate the parasite, but
also to prevent the scientist from being eaten from the inside out

a lot can be done with this adv. because since no one really knows
that the biotech labs are connected with shadoloo, they can dupe,
other street fighters, bounty hunters....and maybe even world
warriors
to do their dirty work...

cool adv. idea what ya'll think??

Hi! I have yet to actually play this game but I have almost all the
books except for Secrets of Shadoloo. I found them all second hand a
few weeks ago. So, I've just been making characters up. I figure I
can get some good ideas if I hang around here. Um...yeah. That's
about it. Hi!

Good basic idea! It needs a main bad guy, possibly a shadoloo agent wanting the parasite, a real parasite himself (or herself) who has lots of tough street fighters as sidekicks (of course). I would also suggest a time limit to liven things up - if they can't find the antidote to the parasite formula quick enough (which is now on it's way to Miriganka but hasn't left the country yet), then the characters are in real trouble - they have been infected too!!!
Years of gamemastering has made me diabolical.

One of my favorite characters I created for the Street Fighter game was "sensei", a small boy who was actualy thousands of years old. Trapped within the samll child's body, he was not strong enough or fast enough to be a world warrior, but he knew almost every Maneuver in the books and nearly all his Techniques were 7-8 in level. Therefore, Sensei, in his hidden home high in the Japanese mountains, makes the perfect teacher. he is demanding and a perfectionist, and trains the mind as well as the body. I made up many, many tests for the mind and body Sensei used. My players loved the guy!
