Subject: [Admin] Straight to hell
Hello.

Rinaldo has been doing these tournaments for awhile and he does an excellent
job of them. And as Joespitt pointed out it lead to some valid rules
discussion. Rinaldo does indicate in his subject line (most of the time)
that the email pertains to his tournaments. If you dont like, just delete
it put please do not tell other members of this list what to discuss. Thats
my job :) I asked before if we should keep the tournament stuff on this list
or have it moved to another one and most people agreed that having it on
this list is just fine, so it will stay that way.

Thanks

I havent used IRC in a looong time. Ever since I realised there were a lot
of crazy people that hang out in those chat rooms (Vampire the Masquerade
game I played in). But a Street Fighter chat room would be cool. I would be
up for it.

Oh more Jet Li news. He is currently in discussion to play Kato in the new
Green Hornet movie.

Do any of you guys use IRC?
Should we perhaps create a channel we could meet on once in awhile? What
Net? EFNet, Dalnet?

It might be a decent place if we ever wanted to do any Live
Role-playing.

Just another thought.

I think the online tournament would be GREAT in an online basis, have a
neutral party roll dice, make rulings, or each person could take a turn, I
have a tournament myself, I made 100 rank one fighters, I would be willing
to run some in a chat basis, I think A) running rank ones to start and then
giving XP based on fights is a better way of doing it than starting at some
insanely high rank that is almost impossible to get to anyways and B) doing
it through a chat medium makes the fights more real. . . . . .At least that
is my thought, if anyone wants to do that, or is interested, I could set it
up, my tourney can be run for just fighting or with a role playing element
(100 characters who almost all have something to do with each other, almost
any type of character fits in pretty well, there are also managers,
recruiters, senseis and stuff running around), let me know if anyone is
interested. . . . . .

Okay I've gone and done it.
Channel name is #sfstg on EfNet.

For thosewho are not farmilliar with IRC....keep reading.

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) crash course
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- You'll need an IRC client. mIRC is by far the most widely used
Windows IRC program. You can get it for free at http://www.mirc.com
- Once you're in that program you'll be asked which server you would
like to connect to. The server's are broken down into different 'Nets'.
Find an EfNet server close to you.
- Next you may be prompted for a channel. Type in #sfstg (or from the
IRC prompt type '/join #sfstg'
Now for some very basic IRC commands:
/nick [nickname] - changes your nickname. Your nickname is your IRC
name. (for example I use 'seagull'...always have...don't ask)
/whois [nickname] - Gives you some info on someone...
/msg [nickname] - privately messgae someone else. These messgaes are
only visible to yourself and the recipient. Like Whispering.
/me [action...] - specifies an action. Great for roleplaying.
Forexample typing '/me jumps over the brown fox' would end up
saying '* seagull jumps over the brown fox'
/join [channel name] - joins a channel. (ie. /join #sfstg)
/leave [channel name] - leaves a channel.
I think hat's enough. If anyone has any questions, email me privately.
I'll be in and out of the channel all day. Hope to see people there.
We could. . . . .that is a very real possiblilty, I don't have any on my
an online tourney and running it in real time is a GREAT idea. . . . . .
Speaking of tourneys by e-mail...I'm callin' out all you SF Gurus that want
to do a tourney. I have had all the books for quite a while now, along with
dice, hexmaps, etc, etc. I'm going to run a tourney for Rank 5 fighters.
Eight people will be taking part in this. The people that I am specifically
requesting are: Mike Morgado, Steve Kartstensen, Scott Pittman, Rinaldo
Gambetta, Chris Hoffman, and three others that want in. I'm asking that
people create fighters from the books (not net publications or personal
additions to the game that people have created). I'm allowing ANY
background from the books, so if someone wants to run that crazy
Fire-elemental-mutant-cyborg-ninja with the hated move that nobody seems to
like...do it! Be my guest. I'm looking for a representative from each
style in a no holds barred-type tournament. This means: weapons? Go right
ahead. Flaming Dragon Punches? Love it. Drooling yet? I'm now going to
be more active by e-mail (finally got everything settled from moving in with
my fiance'...oh yeah, I'm getting married) so please e-mail me personally.
I'm going to be writing up the fights as narratives. Remember those little
vignettes that we wrote up for Rinaldo's tournament(s)? I guarantee it's
gonna be somewhat cool, at least to me.
The Cubs beat the Braves AGAIN today! 11-4! They killed them. I cant wait to rub it in again. They are now tied with Houston for 3rd place. Stinkinatti...I mean....Cincinnatti is in 2nd. Subject: Re: [streetfighter] IRC
ok, anyone who wants in, email me with a rank one fighter (I may have to
tone up the tourney if characters just wouldn't be challenged) I have about
10% hybrid, some cyborgs, as well as having at least one fighter from each
game style as well as some of my own created styles and a few duelists for
those so inclined, the way we usually do XP for tourney fights is 3 points
a fight, 4 if you or the character learned something. . . . . .I just got
IRC today, so I could set up times for you to fight an NPC, they're not too
tough, and I do give an honor penalty for moves that hit more than three
times (we have had fatalities from the cartwheel kick). . . .
Heeeeyy! Why don't I get honorable mention.... :)
Anyhoo, I'd really like to see this tournament happen, with one possible
exception. I'd really like to have the contestants enter at Rank One,
for several reasons
- Rank One righters can be craeted from scratch with minimal
contraversy. Last thing I want on this list is argumants on who's
character is unfairly stcaked etc.
- These tounament characters should be dedicated only to this
tournament...that way, the only way to further develope the character is
to win fights. Good enough motivation. Only the Strong Survive.
Other than that...I like the NO HOLDS BARRED rules...except I think
there should be some kind of rule where you don't have to be forced to
fight someone. ie. I would hate to have my character be forced to fight
someone who isists on using a rapier and that will surely cu me down in
a couple turns....
What say you?
Brutal? every pro westler seems like they would be AT BEST a crappy rank
one fighter, grab no higher than 4, maybe a few with str or stam of like a
4 or 5, and probably a dex of a 2, with like the basic throw, grab and pin,
I mean some of them are reasonably skilled but nothing special. . . . . . . ..
I have set up an mIRC room that I will be using for Streetfighter, and some
room WILL have an automated dice roller that the players can use (and see).
The role-players there were very nice.
If I was to run the tourney, duelists aren't allowed to fight non duelists
with their weapons, and you can bow out of scheduled fights and take a
defeat, if you want to enter, email me with a time that's good to run
fights and I'll email you with your string. . . . . . .the tourney is 15
hey everybody
some of you SF fans out there punch code- I sadly do not (at least so far).
but I've been meaning to ask those who understand the whole hex-map concept,
how difficult it would be to write a really basic placekeeping program that
could be used instead of tabletops and miniatures. one on one fights arent so
bad, but whenever I run dozens of redshirts against my pc's (and you know how
much fun that is) I find myself wishing I knew c++. issues like facing, and
which character has already moved would be simplified, bmps could concievably
be used to represent player counters (or thugs, cops, ninjas etc.), and maybe
I'm better now.
Anyways, a few years ago I was a contractor for a small game company in
Californy that was attempting to make a Battletech-type space combat game
using an isometrically-viewed hexmap as the playing field. The map
scrolled, and since hexmaps tilt in an isometric view, you can't use a
standard scrolling algorithm. It took me DAYS to come up with something
that even drew the hexes properly, let alone something that scrolled without
mucking up the screen.
Anyways, hexes are evil. Scrolling engines do not like them. One bit.
hey everybody
some of you SF fans out there punch code- I sadly do not (at least so far).
but I've been meaning to ask those who understand the whole hex-map concept,
how difficult it would be to write a really basic placekeeping program that
could be used instead of tabletops and miniatures. one on one fights arent
so
bad, but whenever I run dozens of redshirts against my pc's (and you know
how
much fun that is) I find myself wishing I knew c++. issues like facing, and
which character has already moved would be simplified, bmps could
concievably
be used to represent player counters (or thugs, cops, ninjas etc.), and
maybe
scanned maps and floorplans could be overlayed on the hex-grid.
Hey!
How ya doin? I'm feelin better although I still have a fever. I am trying
to convince my mom to let me play in the game tonight. My dad says its ok.
But my mom is still being uptight. To me baseball is very important it
doesnt matter if I am sick I should still play. Although my mom doesnt
really think the same. But anyway Steve is such a goober. He can get very
annoying. I have been to the Shell Factory. I went there like 4 or 5 years
ago. I was to young to really appreciate it so I didnt have that great of a
time. Maybe that would be different now though. Anyway...How can you say
that you are plain? I thought that you had a wonderful personality and were
very pretty. I cant see how you could say that you cant see people flirting
with you. Anyway. The Cubs beat the Braves AGAIN today! 11-4! They
killed them. I cant wait to rub it in again. They are now tied with
Houston for 3rd place. Stinkinatti...I mean....Cincinnatti is in 2nd. That
wont be for long though. Oh well I got to go now. Talk to you later!
I look around at the fighters our cosmic sponsor has gathered, and I like what
I see.
They are all very small. There are no other JEGs, which makes sense when I
realized that the Guardian probably wanted a lot of variety. Most of the other
seem to be pure human (except for Plague who gives me and everybody else the
shivers).
Odd thing is that everybody seems unafraid of everybody else. Several people
are all ready challenging each other. Several are eyeing me and I'll probably
be challenged sooner or later. It's insane! In my own time, challenging a JEG
was considered a painful form of suicide.
I like insane.
Who to challenge? Voss seems to be looking at me intently, he'll probably
challenge me sooner or later. Ghost Bear is probably the closest one to my
weight class, hmmmm.... Decisions, decisions.
Then out of the corner of my eye I see Dragon Reborn. No one else seems to
have noticed that he's like me, filled with the spirit of something larger than
ourselves. I don't know who or what's filling him, but we shall see if it is
greater than the spirit of Japan.
Yeah, I'll just go up, tap him on the shoulder and challen...*ouch*.
I look down at the little girl who just jabbed me in the stomach with her
finger. "Name's Maso, amazon. Let's rumble."
Yeah, I like insane, "If rumble means a challenge, then I accept, Maso Amazon."
Well I make the fight in weekeend but just for a remember could you send your
And a short description about Maso: A punk rock girl with jeans (have holes on the
knee) a short white t-shirt and boots, of course carry chains.
Well when I enter in this list I think why anyone try to do this, I
sugest I
wait but I never make anyone do what he don´t want make so If I want a
tournament I make one by myself, and I liked and many people love it
too. Why I
don´t like the online tournaments? The idea is good but the time is the
problem
I can´t use the internet for long periods in my home, this the why I
make
tournaments using the current system used in Gateway and now in Ages
Tournament,
of course I commit many mistakes and I say this with proud because they
make my
concept of fight better and of course this make many rules discutions
like said
J.S.Pittman, continue in online tournaments I realy I can´t do and I
can´t enter
in one because I´m out of time, this the other reason the results of all
fights
comming up in the weekend sorry if this generate a lot of traffic
messages and
disturb someone, but if the admin Mike said the thing is ok, I continue
the job
and try to improve my manage in these test fights for the real thing,
and for
people who don´t enter yet I don´t close the doors I just wait for more
fighters
just e-mail me for info.
Well appears a good idea but after read this my mind developed some
questions:
1) About character creation stats for atributes and abilities,
techniques.
2) How many fighters you want in, you known the number of contestants
and of course if you use npc fighters.
3) Guys with weapons and guys without weapons this the start of a good
thing or a good headache.
But by the way this will be fun and thanks for remember me dude, wait my
character soon.
You could very easily do it in a console app, but it would look like crap
eh. GUI isn't the difficulty (although I admit if you don't know it, it can
seem intricate), as I said, it's the actual hex tracking. Best thing to do
would be to fool the system into thinking the hexes are a grid, or work out
a reliable mathematical relationship between the hexes.
don't bother with a console app. it'd never work.
Depends on who's running it, if it's me, it's all good, you can even
combine elemental, animal hybrid and cybernetic, but beware, you get an
adjusted string the second round of the tourney (five fights) and those
fighters are MEAN, you have been forewarned. . . . .
