Youre battles will be on a seperate mailing list? Does the list have other
topics? How much mail is generated by the list? The reason i ask is I don't
want to be bogged down, I had to get off the DC Heroes mailing list (great
game by the way), cause they sent like 150 e-mails to me in one day. And
guys, if you think we are bad, almost all of them were "good" or "I like it"
or what-not, very few useful e-mails.
Then again, there are very few useful e-mails here, too, come to think of
it. heh

Subject: Re: Dark Streets, Turn 5 (all players)
Sago (IC)
I approach Sammi and shake her hand. "Hi. My name's Sago. Want to share
a victory drink?"

Sammi (IC)
Looking briefly at Sago, Sammi took his hand and shook
it. "In a minute. Have you seen...?" She finally
spotted Shark off to one side, and headed over to him.
"There he is. Hey, Shark! I've got a bone to
pick...with...you?" She slowed down when she saw him
towering over a young kid, dressed in tattered
clothes. The kid looked harmless enough, but when
Shark said 'Get him.', Sammi knew something was up.
"What's going on here?"

When Sammi got a little closer, she saw that the kid wasn't dressed in rags
at all, but nice clothes, and faily new and clean (for a kid). He was cute,
with big round eyes and... cat ears and yellow cat eyes? What the...
This kid was one of those experiments the media was talking about, no
doubt... what was that company called... BI? Biosomething Incorporated?
Mabye it was one of those half-animals that she had heard about, living in
South America. Either way, the kid was in trouble, and Sammi was wondering
what the hell was going on.
-----
Sago looked in the direction Sammi was moving to. There was a kid there, a
very young kid, and it looked like he was being threatened. Strange, that
kid looked familiar...
Two big men rushed to grab the kid. Sago figured he could handle one and
Sammi the other, but then suddenly two more thugs came around the corner,
one holding a steel pipe. Both were heading in Shark's direction, and Sammi
didn't see them. Most people were just getting out of the way. These wern't
the kind of people that were called heroes out here on the dock, and
apparently no one was going to help out. Just another fight to them.
-----
Storyteller's note: Shark's men are trying to grab Ryuu (everyone can see
that), and only Sago sees the approaching thugs. What is everyone doing?

Subject: I stop "friendly" start plans for begginning tournament.
For reason of prepare npc´s, make background some background (thanks
C.Hoffmann) and equilibrate my npc (thanks J.Scot Pittman) for
tournament I must stop, friendly fights. At this Saturday I will make
the random selection, everyone read the invitation mail? There I explain
some changes in the fight for the title of champion. First isn´t the
same thing I said a few day ago I think in how make more fights and now
I found. I make 8 groups with 4 figthers each, there each figthter will
challenge the other 3 fighter 1 time and with this he fight 3 times at
the end the fighter with more wins go ahead in tournament and the second
place will make a extra group with other seconds from other groups the
winner of this group can go on.

The most important is figths with 20 rounds all of them will have this
limit, except the great final without time limit.
Exp points and glory and honor will be given after each fighter and
conform the figther performance.

Warning people who want change something the time limit for this end at
this saturday
Ps: Things like low atributes, or slow manuvers or at last a change of
fighter, this will okay.
Other important thing I´m creating new npc´s for that reason any person
of this list want his fighter have a important enemy npc tell me and I
put him in tournament I need only appearance, name and style, of course
if he have some manuver and you want this in this fighter, let me known.

Thanks people. Rinaldo Gambetta.

Nobody hurts a kid on _my_ watch! "Sammi!" I bark out, trying to be
heard over the noise of the crowd, "You take care of those two fools.
I'll handle the backup." Granted, I knew just this side of nothing about
her, but she seemed to be, how did Greg put it? A good egg? Yeah, she
seemed to be a good egg.

I jump high over the heads of the crowd, landing a roundhouse kick on the
forehead of the man with the steel pipe.

Where had I seen this kid before? You'd think that those ears would make
him stick out in my memory. Maybe I never noticed them before. Sago the
Perceptive, that's me.

This is going to bug me all day now.

OOC: Is Sharky the same guy I talked to to get my fight?

How's our (Sammi's and my) health doing? Have we recovered from our
fights (Something I should have thought about _before_ I jumped into
this)?

Is Sammi going to draw a wand and turn into The Magical Wrestler Pretty
Sammi?

Gokiwa hopes that Unknowledge will be there. Gokiwa feels a burning need
to _chat_ with him. Akuma would be nice, but I don't think he'll actually
participate.

Akuma would be nice, but I don't think he'll actually

Ryuu's eyes grew wide. "Gomen nasai," he stopped himself from continuing,
remembering that mama-san had said most people didn't speak Japanese here
in America. "I.. I'm sorry, I not mean to bump into you..." Ryuu trailed
off as five men started to close in on him.

Ryuu moved backwards still apologizing when his ear twitched. He froze,
suddenly terrified, at the sound of ... "something" metallic being snapped
into place and the cold gleam of metal that was reflected in the dim light.

Hui strained. She'd been doing this exercise for two hours now and she was
getting bored. Fill the bucket, step left, bend down, pour, repeat on the
right. Sifu had dozed off yet again; another all-night "meditation" session
with the wine jug. He'd said nothing about her victory against the Ninja
Bunny, although Hui thought it was pretty darn impressive for her first real
fight. He'd merely grunted, taken a drink, and then told her to go meditate
about her performance. To him, meditate usually meant "drink 'till you pass
out". Most of the time, that was just fine. But now...

Hui paused in her footwork drill and took a good long look at her Sifu. He
was holding a scroll in one hand and the earthenware jug in the other,
snoring like a woodsaw.

She turned and dumped her full bucket back into the huge jug she was
standing on, then turned back. And nearly fell off.

Su-Hua Chi was sitting up, wide awake, a big grin on his face.

"It is time."

"Time? For what, Sifu?"

"For you to finally put your skills to use. Do you know what this is?" He
held out the scroll.

"Of course not."

"It is an invitation to a fighting tournament. Fighters from all styles and
all countries will be competing. You will be one of them."

Hui's breath caught. A back-alley fight was one thing, but...

"Your training is complete, and your fight the other day shows that simple,
random tests will not be enough. Go sign up."

Sifu gave her the directions, and Hui had to keep from running the entire
distance from their hut into town. Perhaps he had faith in her after all...

And right now, the answer is, "Yes."

OOC: Sammi's going to drive a standing roundhouse into
the gut of the thug nearest "Ru/Ryuu".

IC: Sammi heard Sago shout out and quickly looked
around, seeing the two goons trying to grab the
cat-boy. 'I don't think this was on tonight's
schedule.' she thought to herself. 'So much for that
2 grand.'

"Hey kid, get behind me." she shouted to Ryuunosuke as
she spun around, driving her sneakered foot into the
closest thug's gut.

Artemis woke with a start after hearing a loud 'thunk'
coming from over by the door to her apartment. She
was so tired after her intense workouts that she
almost forgot where she was. "Oh, yeah...I'm
home...", she mumbled to her self as she got up, sore
from her kick practices and speed drills. Staggering
over to the small kitchen, she glanced over at the
clock sitting on top of her TV. "3:00 in the
afternoon? Jeez..."

Her bare foot stepped on something hard and
cylindrical, almost causing her to fall. "What the?"
she cried, steadying herself. Artemis looked down,
and saw a small mailing tube mixed in with several
other envelopes. Reaching down, she picked up the
tube, carefully opened it, and removed the contents.
"A scroll?"

Artemis read the scroll carefully. It was an
invitation to a large tournament, being held in Hong
Kong. Apparently whoever sent it was willing to
ignore her past losses. She took another look at the
scroll.

"The Gateway Tournament."

"Hmmm..." she thought to herself as she poured a cup
of coffee, then giggled to herself. "Let Portal
Kombat Begin." Artemis shook her head. "I gotta stop
watching late-night movies."

(Sorry about the pun, I couldn't resist)

So does this mean that Ryuu is Sammi's sidekick who happens to be part cat
and part ... ... ... umm, right. On to the game.

OOC: It's Ryuu.

IC: Ryuu ducked down and scrambed under the closet table, trying to get out
of the way. Poking his head up over the tables edge, he got to his feet.
Looking at the people who sat around the table in a stunned silence, Ryuu
smiled brightly. "Sorry," he said before rushing over to where Sammi had
indicated.

Subject: Re: the crouch
I was actually just thinking about this this morning. I'd say no to punches
since there is a move "Ducking Fierce" that is a crouching fierce that costs
power points to purchase. It would be easy enough to convert that for jab
and strong as well. I'd say no to kicks since in the video games all ducking
roundhouses are leg sweeps or slide kicks which also need to be purchased in
the game with powre points. So any ducking basic punches and some kicks
could be allowed if one bought them with power points. Grabs are definately
no ducking. Never.
Ducking move = Drunken monkey roll. AKA pay power points to duck while
moving, works out to be the same concept as above.
Blocks are special. Lunging punch refers to a crouching block but if you can
always crouch while blocking why wouldn't you? You'd avoid most aerial
maneuvers and the spinning clothesline too. Id say if you want to allow a
ducking block make the player spend points to purchase it and don't allow the
+2 speed bonus afterwards, although even this may not be enough of a penalty
to offset the potential benefits.

On the contrary, guys. You can crouch and kick, punch
or block. It should mention it under the description
of "Crouching Maneuver" in the Combat section of the
first book. If it doesn't, then it should, because
you can do it in real life.

I'm pleased to see Dark streets getting off to a good start, and I'm going
to throw in all the characters soon. They are appearing in the same order I
received them in.
However, new turns might be a little slow for the next couple of weeks, as
I am moving right now. However, do not dare think that ark Streets has
ended, it just has paused for the moment (although that does not mean that
new turns will not appear, just not nearly everyday). Thanks!

"bright". But it might be a bit to common.

and make with perfection the Dragon punch", she remember what her first
master or better say her father say: "All things have their right time,
with patience you can do this, my child." Dad words, she seat on the

much to me.
-Aori...Aori.., is her current master saying her name.

it doesn't, and I'm glad.  If you could combine a Crouch with any maneuver there'd never be any reason *not* to crouch as you'd get all the benefits of a normal attack *and* the added immunity of never being hit by Aerial maneuvers.  This is one "real-life" rule that is not (and should not) be in Street Fighter.  If the maneuver description don't say Crouch, you can't Crouch.

Subject: Character post: The Emerald Dragon
Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this character...

"one bad-ass NPC who causes my players a whole world o' fear."

Thu, the Emerald Dragon

Background:

Sagat has never been much more than a loner, and upon his acceptance into
Shadoloo's fold has steadfastly refused to take on any new students.
Bison's brainwashing has been primary among the reasons for this; in an
effort to turn Sagat into the ultimate killing machine, Bison has elevated
Sagat's original mindset of rock-hard discipline and high standards into a
thing that almost no student can hope to survive. Thus, all those whom come
to Sagat for his teachings are either deemed too weak and turned away, or
end up crippled through his merciless and brutal training methods, which
have become even more vicious than Vega's practice of tossing recruits into
bull pastures.

At least, that's how the story goes.

Recently a woman has appeared on the circuit showing much of the same
vicious and unfeeling efficiency as the man whom she says taught her. That
man is, of course, Sagat. The fact that Sagat has not come to track her
down and silence her bragging only lends credibility to this story, and her
fighting skill is undeniable: she made Rank Six in less than two months
after fighting some of the best local fighters in Bangkok's fight circuit,
which is one of the most demanding and brutal in the world.

Little is known about the Emerald Dragon, as she calls herself. What little
is known, however, tells a great deal.

Thu was born in Sagat's hometown, and was always a headstrong girl,
according to the few remaining people who admit knowing her at that age.
Ever frustrated by the female roles she was expected to adhere to, Thu
managed to lie and steal enough money to bribe the coach of her school's
kickboxing team to let her try out. She was soundly beaten by one of the
team's second stringers, and would have been laughed off the mat if, moments
after her loss, she hadn't leaped to her feet and attacked the victorious
student from behind.

Six months later, when she was released on parole, she was trying to scrape
together a living in Bangkok's red-light district when she ran into a
scarred mountain of a man whom the entire nation regarded as a hero: Sagat.
He offered her more money than she could imagine, to do more things than she
could imagine. She refused, and instead demanded that he teach her to
fight. Sagat laughed in her face, but her right hook caught him so totally
off-guard that it shocked him into reconsidering over the course of the next
few weeks while she recovered in the hospital. When she could walk again,
Sagat tracked her down and told her to be at his arena the next morning to
begin her training.

Thu's first official fight was at the Tournament of the Celestials, a fairly
high-class tournament in Hong Kong that bestowed an official title upon its
winners, allowing them to enter the ranks of Dragon. (Several years prior,
it is said, Chow Yen earned her title of Dragon Princess at this fight.)
Thu won, and ever since has been known as the Emerald Dragon. Her next
fight was on the underground circuit, arranged by Sagat. She has arranged
most of her own battles since then, seeking out the toughest Thailand has to
offer, and beating them all within an inch of their lives. It was only a
matter of time before Shadoloo came knocking, and Thu gladly joined its
ranks, eager to make a name for herself as one of the Bosses, hopefully
taking her mentor's place next to Vega and Balrog as one of Bison's
right-hand enforcers. Thu has recently taken up rank within the
high-Ranking team Sudden Impact. The other members of the team outrank her
by three to four levels, but she still holds her own.

Roleplaying Thu: You are violent in the extreme. Paranoid, remorseless,
and unfeeling are words that have also been used to describe you; the
inhumanly high standards Sagat has held you to has driven all semblance of
femininity from your body and left behind only a vicious fighting machine.
You tend to strike before your opponents even know you're a threat, both in
and out of the ring. As a member of Shadoloo, you know the depths to which
other members of your organization will sink. As a result, you view all
people you deal with as a potential threat, including Sagat, whom you feel
will eliminate you if you become too powerful for him to be comfortable
with. You are, however, a good actress, and can play the weak and helpless
female if it will meet your needs.

Appearance: Thu is a pretty Thai woman of average build and slightly
above-average height (about 5'6). She wears her hair long, and dresses in a
silken green outfit reminiscent of a karate gi in the ring, with an ornate
dragon logo emblazoned on the back. She wears hand- and foot-wraps like her
mentor, and anyone who has had the (unfortunate) opportunity to see her
without it has noted that her body is nearly as hard and battered as that of
Sagat himself. Out of the ring she dresses in middle-class clothing; jeans,
dress shirts, and a denimn jacket are her favorite attire.

sounds good.  We may even just name her Hui (after my fiance) as it means "intelligent".  And if our kid inherents even half of our combined smarts, she's gonna be brilliant.

Yah...But that sounds right. In chinese the family name comes first.
and then the personal name.

Heh heh heh. You have a quick fiance.
Maybe you should use the word "Meng"
in her name. Its the combintion of the characrters sun and moon and means
"bright". But it might be a bit to common.

Frankly, I tend to ignore that rule about crouchers ignore aerial attacks.
I mean, I hit crouching opponents all the time with jumps (I also tend to
eat a lot of power uppercuts to, it tends to cancel out).

In fact, I make it so that you only get half your block soak if you're
blocking in the wrong place (crouching or standing). Crouching will stop
crouching and standing attacks, but will leave you vulnerable to aerial
attacks. Standing will defend against aerial attacks and standing
attacks, but you'll loose half your block soak if you're hit by a
crouching attack. (Lunging Punch is a special case, and you loose *all*
you blocking soak if you try to block it standing).

But it's not all bad. I've also ruled that if you're blocking correctly,
you can't be knocked down _or_ dizzied (one or the other, if both happen
in the same round, you get dizzied or knocked down [your choice] but not
both) by the move(s) you're blocking correctly. If it's part of a dizzy
combo, the move's damage (if any) doesn't count towards the total.

And yes, I consider the various sweeps, slide kicks, and the like,
crouching. I also consider Dragon Punches and the like standing (for
doing damage) and aerial (for taking damage).

The Crouching maneuver itself is free, but I don't let anyone use it
unless they have at least an athletics of one (like that's much of a
requirement). It subtracts two from the move that it is added to, and may
be added to any of the basic six.)

And for a final though about where to block, here's a nasty move from my
favorite Bushin Ninja, Guy that I just cut and pasted from my webpage.

Neck Shatterer

Prerequisites: Punch 2
Power Points: Bushin 1, Any 2

Description: The Fighter rams his elbow deep in his opponent's gut, and
then whips his forearm up, ramming the back of his fist into the
opponent's throat.

System: The maneuver hits twice, using the modifiers below and can not be
blocked with a crouching block.

Cost: None
Speed: -1
Damage: +0
Move: -1
