Same reason I put my web site in my sig file, Ego. We're attention

energy is usually depicted in waves, so you could say it's an (energy)

Subject: [streetfighter] Question about Elementalists

hmm... I remember seeing a post on this earlier.. I can't quite remeber
what I was said but I have some questions

the way I see it.. fireball in ryu's case is a misnomer...
Ryu's 'fireball' is called hadoken - translated (to make it easier for
me
to understand) wave motion punch... often its called cyclone punch.
this hints at his fireball being air (rather than a fire) elemental
move... my main question is where does spirit come into it?
(note you often see in the anime, etc a large amount of concentration,
etc
to do these kind of moves)

note: one hint to the above explaination is in general ryu's
standard fireball is blue not red - not saying you can't have blue flame
but its an attempt to represent wind... and yes he does have a burning
fireball which was added later, unless you count the old glitch

note: also more appropriately for fire elemental moves are Dhalsim's
various forms of flame (yoga fire, yoga flame, yoga blast, yoga inferno,
etc) and Fei Longs dragon kick (do his special punches also burn?..
their
name suggests so but it doesn't appear like it) and Ken's advanced forms
of dragon punches

oh and speaking of elements ... does Blanka's electricity come under the
same or similar heading? (is electricity an element? ... the
FIFTH?? heheh)

hmm.. one thing I just noticed missing in the whole sf universe (unless
you count marvel games) appears to be water elementals!... theres no
frozen in ice moves, (ie MSH/Xmen:COTA had Iceman, Thano's bubble and of
course magneto's throw hehehe)

I rolled a botch, didn't I. No need to deny it, I know when I'm screwed.
This guy's probably a used car salesman.

> Then
> what if he is reluctant to admit you into the secret tournament?

Mild-mannered. It would probably be a nice change of pace for the guy.
No need to give him reason to, oh I don't know, draw a gun or call over
his bodyguards or some silly thing like that.

If he refuses to admit he's a ring manager: Sago shakes his head and
chuckles, "Saying 'no' won't fly here. Guys like us, we can sniff each
other out."

If he admits he runs a ring but won't let me in: Sago smiles a crooked
smile, "Now, you're wondering 'Can I trust this Sago clown? I mean, he's
got no history in the circuit, hell, for all I know he could be an
undercover cop.' Well, I'm no cop and I want a match. You're thinking to
yourself 'Ok, he's no cop, maybe, but how do I know he can handle himself
in the ring?'" Sago looses the smile and his face becomes very serious,
"And my answer to that is give me a test fight, even off the records if
you want. If I do well, then I'm in. If I choke, you laugh in my face
and I head back to Thailand in disgrace. We got a deal?"

While not a participant, I felt that I should voice my opinion here. In a
real time game, only defensive maneuvers can be aborted to. But since the
moves are being plotted out in advance, I can't help but wonder if allowing
aborts to any maneuver would add something to the game. I fighter who is
down half their health would do something different from someone who has
almost lost no health, either by being more reckless or more conservative.

Subject: :"Friendly" Fight 52 Hotaru Seijuro Vs Gokiwa.
This serie of challenges made by the ninja bunny.

Hotaru Seijuro style: Ninjutsu country: Japan player: ArkonDLoC@...

Appearance: A short man wearing a hooded robe similar to a Shinto
priest's, on the back is the drawing of a firefly. With the hood pulled
over
his
face he seems normal, until someone notices his gigantic feet and large
fingers, both of which are covered in soft brown fur. As he draws back
his
hood, the
Illusion of humanity is lost. His face is that of a rabbit. His long
ears are held to the back of his head by a red headband. The only human
facial
features he has are his large, green eyes.

Quote before fight: "Kon'nichi wa, honorable opponent. May this battle
bring
honor and glory to both our houses."

Vs
Gokiwa style: Shotokan Karate country: Japan player: Chris Hoffmann

Appearance: A typical Japanese teenager in a dingy Gi. Look closer and
you'll see the vacant look in his eyes, the almost invisible grimance of
pain on his face, and how he cluches his stomach like something has been
riped from it.

Quote before fight: ...........!!!

Arena: Secret ninja house.

Fighters are 3 hexes from each other ring bells and fight start.

Move 1- Hotaru Seijuro move 2 hexes and try to make a Foward kick but
Gokiwa Jab
punch for his combo is more faster move 1 hex and hit Hotaru Seijuro and
he
receives: 2 points of damage but Hotaru Seijuro hit his Foward kick and
Gokiwa
receives: 2 points of damage.
Move 2- Hotaru Seijuro enter in Gokiwa hex and try a throw manuver but
Gokiwa
Dragon punch is more faster and Hotaru Seijuro receives: 6 points of
damage
going back 1 hex and stun!!!
Move 3- Gokiwa make another Dragon punch at dizzy Hotaru Seijuro and he
receives: 4 points of damage and knockout.
Gokiwa wins by knockout.

Introducing our three guest commentators to this secret match being
broadcast over international e-mail: Ken: The filthy rich street fighter,
Ryu: The incredibly obsessed street fighter, and Vega: The ridiculously
evil street fighter.

And now introducing the challengers: In the oriental corner it:

> Hotaru Seijuro style: Ninjutsu country: Japan player: ArkonDLoC@...

Vega: Bah, another ninja. This is beginning to look more and more like
that fool Shang Tsung's Tournament.

Ken: Wasn't he the rabbit from that Ninja Turtle cartoon?

Ryu: And he kicked serious ass in that cartoon.

Vega: I must have missed that episode. HOW DARE MY VCR MISS AN EPISODE OF
THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES! IT WILL FALL BEFORE MY PSYCHO POWER!

Ken (turns to Ryu): That can't be good for his blood pressure.

> Quote before fight: "Kon'nichi wa, honorable opponent. May this battle

Vega: Feh. Another fool clinging to his outdated concepts of tradition
and honor. No offense, Ryu.

Ryu: None taken.

Ken (singing off key): I've got spurs, that jingle jangle jingle...

Vega and Ryu (looking at Ken): You're weird Ken.

Vega: Sounds like that Gokiwa fighter. That reminds me, I'll have to make
that boy an offer he can't refuse.

> Arena: Secret ninja house.

> Fighter are 3 hexes from each other ring bells and fight start.

Vega (looking panicked): Excuse me, I have to go to the little dictator's
room.

Ken: What's wrong with him?

Ryu: I don't know. He mentioned he was power hungry, so I gave him this
power bar you gave me. (holds up an ex-lax wrapper).

Ken (grinning): Ryu, you haven't quite figured out that there is life
beyond the dojo and the fight and, sometimes, I love you for it.

Ryu: You're scaring me Ken. Please stop.

> Move 1- Hotaru Seijuro move 2 hexes and make a Foward kick but hit

Ryu: Looks like Blaise is playing a conservative game against a unknown
fighter. A good strategy.

Ken: And Hotaru wasn't quite on his distance and missed because of it.

Vega (from a distance): Miserable maggots, get out of my way. I am Vega
and I will budge in line if I so choose.

Ryu & Ken: *sweatdrop*

> Move 2- Blaise block and Hotaru Seijuro move 3 hexes and make a Short

Ken: Very conservative game.

Ryu: I think Blaise just set Hotaru up for a powerful hit.

Ken: Ouch! Glass Jaw! You called it, Ryu.

Ryu: Well, it was a good hit, but that's definitely going to mean trouble
for Hotaru in the future if that amount of damage will stun him.

> Move 4- Blaise pose throwing a flurry of kicks in the air, and Hotaru
> Seijuro is
> dizzy.

Ken: Which points out a common moral dilemma street fighters have to face.
The path of honor vs. the path of the sure hit.

Ryu: The honorable thing to do is, of course, to do what Blaise choose to
do, pose, or block, or do anything except hit the guy while he's dizzy.

Ken: Personally, I like to pose, but Ryu here like to take a defensive
stance and wait for the instant it would be honorable to hit him again.

Vega: Bah. The Psycho Crusher was made for dizzying opponents.

Ryu: So don't drink and drive, stay in school, and don't hit dizzied
opponents. Let's make these holiday fights, safe and happy ones.

Vega (speed 6): Bah...

Ken (interrupting with a speed of eight): Humbug?

Vega (glaring at Ken): I wasn't going to say that.

Ryu (a bit miffed that he only had a speed of three and went last): Well,
what were you going to say?

Vega: Well, thanks to Ken, you'll never know. Muahahahahaha!

Ryu & Ken (looking at Vega): You're weird, Vega.

Ryu: Looks like Hotaru is making a comeback!

Vega: Well, a rabbit does have powerful legs. If backed into a corner, a
rabbit can often do enough damage to drive away some of the smaller
predators, like a fox for example.

Ryu & Ken: *gape at Vega*

Vega (shrugging a little self-consciously): Hey! I've got an Intelligence
of six, I have to know these things. Besides I didn't spend eight years
in evil crime lord school just to learn how to color-coordinate my
uniform.

> Move 6- Hotaru Seijuro make a Power uppercut but hit air because Blaise
> is more
> faster and quickly retreat 4 hexes.

Ryu: Blaise seems to be playing a game of keep-away. If he can make it to
the ten round bell without being hit, then he'll probably win.

> Move 7- Blaise block and Hotaru Seijuro move 4 hexes and make a Rolling
> attack
> and Blaise receives: 4 points of damage and stun!!!

Vega: An impressive display of power, to stun through a block. I must
have him in my evil army of criminals, assassins, and politicians.

Ken: Isn't that redundant? I mean, the first one covers the other two.

Vega: You just don't get it, do you Ken? Shhh!

> Move 8- Hotaru Seijuro block and Blaise is dizzy.

Ken: Rolling attack, Blocks when opponent is dizzy, the whole honor
thing...

Vega: It's Ryu and Blanka's love child. *raises his pinky to his mouth*

Ryu (sweatdrop): Um... no.

> Move 9- Blaise block and Hotaru Seijuro make a Foward kick and Blaise

Ken: Hotaru is learning how Blaise blocks. That same kick couldn't get
through his defense in round two.

Ken: YEAH! That's the way. Take the hit and nail that guy!

> Hotaru Seijuro wins by knockout.
> Hotaru Seijuro winning quote: May honor shield your heart from

Ryu suddenly starts laughing hysterically.

Ken & Vega (looking at Ryu): You're weird Ryu.

> Hotaru Seijuro bows and leaves.

Vega: and I shall do the same *teleports out*

Ryu: Yeah, I've got to leave too. I've got a big fight in the morning
against a guy named Son Goku.

Ken (whips out his cell-phone): Hi, Manny? This is Ken. Fifty thousand
on Son Goku to win. *hangs up phone*

Ryu: Wow. That was a confidence builder.

Ken: Well, until Chris Hoffmann get up off his butt and MST3Ks another
fight, I'm Ken Masters.

Ryu: And I'm Ryu... er... hey Ken, do I have a last name?

Ken: No. Not that I know of.

Ryu: And I'm Ryu. Just Ryu.

Ken & Ryu: And we'll see you next time.

One day in my first game of Stf, I never play stf rpg at that moment and
in my first fight is against a Sambo guy or just mean this grab here and
grab there, but in my head before my lose I think a plan, jump no,
monkey roll Wrong, what is this so?
This a manuver created by my fighter (created is very prepotent maybe I
should say used by this situation).

Desesperate Fall (any 1pt): The fighter see a incoming grab or fireball
or high hit and say for the ground and quickly fall his body at ground
avoid the fireball and the grab. Only problem this a knockdown and you
receive the penalty at -2 speed in next turn, for stand up, but you can
escape from many things with this and put kippup is good for me.

Hey andy, for abort manuevers , I keep it as is.

As for the showing off, my characters do it when ever they dizzy a person. I
would have it at speed +0. If they dont wnt to do it, fine let them block,
its their choice. If they show off at the end of their
fight they still get +1 glory. Keep the rules as is, I say.

Dear Sir,
I have noticed we both have certain... abilities that our peers do not.
If you should care to, I would like to test our abilities against each other.
And, perhaps, in the future, we can go into a team fight together. I believe
we would be well suited together. Please, let me know whether you would agree
to this agreement.

Sincerly,

Subject: Re: Question about Elementalists
Hey forge. Ok this is a little weird but Ill try to explain it.

If any thing ryus punch should be more like chi push(That cool move at the
back of contenders.
I remember reading somewhere that according to the chinese, chi was drawn as
Wave lines akin to fire. Hence, fireball.
But later people reffer to chi as bio-electrical energy. So the fire ball is
done differently. I dont beleive it was done blue to represent air, but blue
to represnt Electicity. Look at the opening in SF2 turbo, with Ryu Charging
up.
Anyone else notice that the regular fireball was blue in sfa and red in SF2.

Yes hadoken translates to Wave motion fist(or energy fist)
as for the cyclone attack....I dont think so but I could be wrong.
Its quite possible you are thinking of Shinku Hadoken, Which translates to
Vaccum Wave motion fist.

Heres the interesting thing. Spirit is required to creat these mystical
moves and spirit is represented by two things in the game I beleive,
Willpower and Focus. Primarily focus in this case.
The spirit is required to create these moves. Hence the need for 2 focus for
fireball.

The idea behind dhalsims ability to spit flame comes from fire
eaters. Weve all seen these people swallow fire and spit it out.
Its an old talent requiring much training. Does this mean that all
fire eaters are elementals? No that would be quite inappropriate.
but a messed idea for a story.

The term burning is often used in fighting systems like SF
and anime to represent the intensity of a fight and spirit of the two
fighters. The term burning vigor is often used by ken himself in SFA3
or sf3(cant remember which) and is used in rival schools to represent the
meter on the bottom.

If there was a frozen I would disagree with it.
A water elemental is able to manipulate Water, not its temperature.
A fire elemntal might be able to freeze water though.

As an interesting note in the term of spirit, I was thinking about
the rules to power activation, and damn does it suck. That had to be the
worst thing I heard. but after alot of research I finally figured it out.
And I hate to say it but the rules for Power activation with yells is kinda
close. I tried to find alternate rules for it, but I practically went full
circle.

A yell or Kiai is a show of spirit, or focus of energy.
If you notice in the game any move that has a word associated by it
such as hadoken, requires a willpower point or chi point to use.
I figured it like this. The Yell is a component of creating or doing the
attack. So i figure play it like this. If you dont want to do a yell for an
will or chi costing manuever(or cant) increase the difficulty of the manuver
by 1.

Ok to continue some info on elementals here, what elementals are we talking
about? Asian, american? The ones in the RPG are clearly american elementals.
If it were asian then it would be Wood, metal, Water, fire, Air.

Nahh, Ryus kick is simply an advanved form of a jumping inside kick.
The only thing that supports him is all the training hes done to achieve it.
And its semiplausable. Think about the number of times a figure skater can
spin in 3 or 5 seconds. Ok. Add a kick.
