Subject: Evolution of the ‘Super’ Martial Arts
It seemed odd to me that in the Street Fighter universe there were so
few maneuvers per style. I can understand that there wouldn't be too
many Focused based maneuvers—even in the `Super' versions of the
martial arts the Street Fighters know but Shotokan has only 16 moves in
the core book.

I was reading through the RPG and going through some of the
sites...Capcom included and it struck me that Ken created the Flaming
Dragon Punch; whilst Fie Long created the Rekka Ken combo...although
not explicitly stated there is a good chance that Zangief created the
Turbo Spinning Clothesline, Siberian Bear Crusher and the Spinning Pile
Driver. Hell…T. Hawk may have created the Storm Hammer move and
apparently no one has figured out Blanka's Beast Roll. (I guess new
maneuvers only get created when new characters are introduced in
subsequent arcade games.)

After some thinking I was wondering how people handled `new' maneuvers
and how they impacted their games. How long does it take before Ken's
Flaming Dragon Fist became something that all Shotokan practitioners
were capable of learning?

Subject: Re: [streetfighter] Evolution of the ‘Super’ Martial Arts
In my games, new Maneuvers were always able to be designed by people that enjoyed the martial arts (see CHAMPS). It took about 100 points of Maneuvers to be considered a master of any given martial art. Special Maneuvers, especially Focus Maneuvers, were legendary but optional. However, true masters often knew a few of these secrets.

Subject: Attempting to Update and Expand Street Fighter
So, I've discovered that I might be called upon to run something for my gaming group in the near future. Been selling them on Street Fighter, and in getting myself all excited for running a SF game again, I'm going back and looking at some of the house rules I wanted to make and never got around to.

Figured I'd try to get your opinions.

In no particular order:

* Character Creation. I want something more flexible than the current category system, as well as a fix for the 5-1-5 Attribute shortcut, so I'm thinking of going to a strictly Point-Based system with the scaling being the same as improving scores with XP. Also gives better control over how powerful starting characters are, since the Storyteller can just adjust the raw point value.

Probably going to go ahead and do separate XP pools, one for Attributes, Techniques, and Powers, and the other for Abilities-- both at Character Creation and during play.

* Since Attributes are included in the "combat" XP, I want to use the Social Attributes in combat. At the same time, I like the Attributes from the New World of Darkness books, and I'd like to have some kind of Art of Fighting style dynamic with Chi and Willpower.

That gives us a Refresh and a Taunt maneuver, with Refresh being based on Composure + Focus, and Composure being used to resist Taunts. (Also means there's a reason for Balrog and Cammy having dots in Focus.) Still leaves me wondering what to do with Presence.

* Full Merit system, nWoD style. Some of you have already done some awesome work on this, and I was hoping to incorporate/adapt it with permission.

Figure this would be the ideal method to handle Exotic Backgrounds, especially if you broke them down into pieces.

* Weapon Styles and Maneuvers. The old WoD: Combat sourcebook is good, but is less help than I figured on. I remember seeing a few good pieces online-- can anyone point me in their direction again?

* Expanded Superhuman Powers for high-level play. Beyond Inferno Strike and Great Wall of China, there just isn't much material for fighters beyond the World Warriors... and the World Warriors themselves have been more powerful than their RPG incarnation for years now.

I've seen a couple of Super Arts variants, but I really don't want to go that route-- especially since it would involve adding another mechanical element to the character sheet.

On the other hand, abilities like soaking gunfire or always inflicting chip damage with certain attacks seem like they'd fit right in at high-level Street Fighter play.

Anyone have any suggestions or advice for me? Pages they'd like to show off? Criticism?

Sorry tha bad english, but i'm brazilian.

Im my personal caimpagn, i have one XP poll for each attribute,
technique, ability, etc, but you need a another sheet
(training sheet) for write them. I use "Training" im my games, where
the character don't gain XP only inthe final of the
game but in the game with your sensei or in your gym training.

About superhuman characters, im my old campaign the characters are
like Gouku, because the campaign have 2 years of old.
I wrote a big book with hundreds of new maneuvers from Dragon Ball Z,
Tekken, king of Fighters and other Fighting Games
with expensive costs and elevated modificators (speed +5, Damage +12,
by example). Otherwise, i don't have the material in
my PC, only im my "book".

ATTRIBUTE ADVANCING
To avoid 5/1/5 characters, take a look at this:

5/1/5 - costs 10 Freebie Points for 11 stat points

5/5/5 - costs 40xp, 10 Freebie points for 15 stat points

So, that's +4 stat points for +40xp.

One quick and dirty method is to maintain the Freebie Point costs and
allow that Attributes are added at +10xp per point and stats over 6 at
+20xp per.

...

Here are other the clarifications/customizations that I usually pimp...

NEW MANEUVERS

http://www.geocities.com/mean_liar/StreetFighterRPG-styles_and_maneuvers.zip

ALL FIGHTERS MAY EXECUTE AN UNTRAINED CROUCH MANEUVER
- by the rules, Aerial attacks cannot hit Crouching opponents
- Speed still determines who goes first: a fighter that does not
execute their Crouching maneuver before an Aerial attack hits is not
considered to be Crouching
- unlike Jumping, a fighter can execute an untrained Crouch as a
modified Move maneuver:

CROUCH
Speed +3
Damage n/a
Move Zero

MANEUVERS THAT CAN BE ABORTED TO ARE EXPLICIT
- only Jump, Block, and maneuvers explicitly stating in their text
that they are Abort Maneuvers can be Aborted to
- maneuvers that are "like Block" cannot be Aborted to without their
descriptive text stating that they are an Abort maneuver

ABORTING CANNOT LEAD TO A COMBO
- Maneuvers Aborted to cannot be used as part of a Combo
- Aborting to a Block will still provide a +2 generic Speed bonus in
the following round

YOU CAN CHOOSE TO DO NOTHING RATHER THAN EXECUTE A MANEUVER
- you do not need to execute a played maneuver, instead choosing to
do nothing, conserving Willpower and Chi that would otherwise be spent
executing the maneuver
- you can use a maneuver's Speed and Movement components to move
around and still do nothing and save Willpower, unless that maneuver
is strictly movement with no attack component

WILLPOWER CANNOT BE USED FOR DAMAGE AUTO-SUCCESSES DURING A FIGHT
- using Willpower in a fight only allows you an extra damage die, not
an auto-success
- note that you can still use Willpower to achieve an auto-success
for damage outside a fight, such as if you are trying to break something
- note also that you can still use Willpower for Abilities, meaning
that you can buy an auto-success on an Insight roll during a fight,
for example

KNOCKDOWNS ALWAYS HAVE SOME EFFECT
- A Knockdown forces the opponent to either suffer a -2 Speed (if
they already acted that round or if they were prevented from acting in
the current round) or lose their next maneuver (if they can act but
have yet to do so that round)
- this clarifies that performing a Knockdown on a Dizzy or Held
opponent will cause the victim to suffer a -2 Speed in the following
round due to being Knocked Down

DIZZIED FIGHTERS CANNOT ROLL TO ESCAPE A SUSTAINED HOLD
- a fighter that is Dizzy gets no chance to escape a Sustained Hold
at the end of the round

DIZZYING PREVENTS ANY ACTION IN THE ROUND AND ANY ACTION NEXT ROUND
- when a fighter is Dizzied, they lose the ability to act for the
current round and can do nothing in the following round

USING A SPEED BONUS TO HIT YOUR OPPONENT THE ROUND AFTER YOUR OPPONENT
IS DIZZY IS DISHONORABLE
- if you take advantage of a Speed bonus to hit your opponent the
moment their Dizzy ends, you're tagged for "Striking an Opponent While
Dizzy" and suffer -1 temporary Honor. Just hit them outright and stop
toying with your food. :p
- you're only assessed with the penalty once for any single Dizzy
- its perfectly acceptable to use any increased Speed to move away
- EXAMPLE: with your opponent Dizzy, you Block to gain a generic +2
Speed in the round he can act again. If you use this Speed bonus to
hit the opponent, you are acting dishonorably.
- EXAMPLE: with your opponent Dizzy, you Block to gain a generic +2
Speed in the round he can act again. If you use this Speed bonus to
move away from the opponent, you are NOT acting dishonorably.
- EXAMPLE: with your opponent Dizzy, you start your Block to
Hyperfist (dizzy) combo so that the round your opponent recovers you
can tag him with a +5 Speed Hyperfist dizzy combo. This is dishonorable.
- EXAMPLE: with your opponent Dizzy, you start your Dragon Kick to
Slide Kick (dizzy) combo. You are assessed the dishonor from striking
a Dizzied opponent with the Dragon Kick, and suffer no additional
dishonor from using the Speed advantage of your combo to Slide Kick them.

TAUNTS HAVE A SPEED OF +0 AND A MOVE OF ONE
- Taunts go at your base Dexterity and you can only Move one hex
while executing them

STRAIGHT-LINE MOVEMENT DOES NOT DEPEND ON MOVING ALONG SINGLE HEX-SIDES
- straight-line movement is not limited by the orientation of hexes;
simply count the number of hexes you want to move and make sure you're
moving in as close an approximation of a straight line you can manage
with the hexes

BOTCHES CAN UNDO YOUR MOVEMENT
- if you move one hex away from your opponent to strike them and
Botch, you are placed back in your original hex
- Botches also prevent further movement if the maneuver otherwise
allows further movement after an attack

I was going to go the other direction with it, using the equivalent of XP during Character Creation.

And like Jumping, the character should be allowed to combine Crouch with any Basic Attack. I like this.

> USING A SPEED BONUS TO HIT YOUR OPPONENT THE ROUND AFTER
> YOUR OPPONENT IS DIZZY IS DISHONORABLE

I was planning on ditching this entirely, as I find the entire concept ludicrous. Then again, I never thought it was "cheap" to launch a combo at a dizzied fighter in the arcade, either.

> TAUNTS HAVE A SPEED OF +0 AND A MOVE OF ONE
> - Taunts go at your base Dexterity and you can only Move

This makes sense. And I was planning on Taunting being effective for more than just gaining Glory-- I was going to implement Art of Fighting style Taunt and Refresh maneuvers.

Focus is the only Technique that doesn't have Basic Maneuvers associated with it. Not to mention, it allows me to make Social Attributes useful in combat, which is something I consider important given the nature of the game.

> STRAIGHT-LINE MOVEMENT DOES NOT DEPEND ON MOVING ALONG

Absolutely agreed.

Yep. The Jab doesn't have to do damage to keep you from eating the
Spinning Pile Driver... but you'd better at least connect with it.

Subject: Re: Attempting to Update and Expand Street Fighter
at www.dragonslayergames.com I have a streetfighter page called Dogs of War where I have many weapon Maneuvers listed, many of them just obvious similar Maneuvers to those of the ones in the books. In addition, CHAMPS (another site listed at dragonslayergames) is a sourcebook that allows you to make up new (and BALANCED) Maneuvers, Styles, and Backgrounds, basically by breaking them down as you mentioned.
I can't say that the Weapon Maneuvers are balanced because I did not use CHAMPS to create them, but they should be - and you could always use CHAMPS to check =).

Someone was speaking of advantages and disadvantages, but I have to say while I tried these types of Backgrounds for Streetfighter at one point, they just didn't feel right with the system, which is based on combat-characters. Who is going to pick Computer Expert when Combat Reflexes is avalible? While this may be good role-playing, I think you will find most players just min/max for the best combat effect (just as in the case of the 5/5/1 characters mentioned in this line of messages). Instead, think of doing something like TRUE 20 where they have a Vice/Virtue. It's much easier, fits well in Storyteller, and is nearly impossible to abuse.

First, sorry the bad english but i'm brazilian.

The OpenRPG works perfectly, but for the D&D Games. For play Street
Fighter with him, you have to modify some things, like character
sheet, maps, dices, etc.

In www.sfrpg.com, Matt are developing some thing looks interesting for
this purpose. Contact him for more details. I developing something
too, but i don't have much time to spend with this project, so, don't

http://www.arcadefly.com/arcades/lovegety-station
There are two Street Fighter 4 machines in Markham ON (pretty close to
Toronto)

My buddy and I are planning a road-trip to check it out. Can any of
you Canadians confirm the machines are there?

It looks like a few of you are nearby so I'll post the details of the
trip when I have them. It'd be fun to meet up and play a few rounds.

Hey Folks,

I am new to this Street Fighter Community and I am excited for all
of the potential that this venue presents to everyone.

I would love to bounce some ideas off of you folks and seee what you
think of my ideas.

I am making a new core rulebook with all of the fighting styles
listed in the original, plus Contenders/Perfect Warrior/Players
Guide/Secrets of Shadoloo and perhaps one or two new ones.

I want to update the Setting of Street Fighter and add the new
manuevers.

I have added Merits and Flaws (which I am positive alot of you
already have) I didnt create any new ones, I just took ones out of
the old World of Darkness books that related to this setting.

I am an excellent Typesetter and I do all of my own graphic work,
(as a function of my career as well) So the work I have done for the
new core book is superior to the old 1994 version.

Welcome to the group, it's nice to see a new face!

Sounds like we have a lot in common. Updating the game to include the
new characters/styles/maneuvers (with professional looking
typesetting) is my goal too, but like most here we probably have
different ideas on the specifics.

I have a lot done in html (many here do) but it's really
old/outdated/ugly and I'm in the process of updating it and moving it
over to a nicer looking pdf, but I just don't have as much time for
this stuff as I used to.

I'd be interested in seeing the sample you offered. It's always nice
to see someone else's take on the game. New ideas and implementations;
the more viewpoints the better.

You can see some of my stuff at sfrpg.com

If you are doing a source book to include all the official stuff, I
feel I should point you to http://mu.ranter.net/rpg/cartwheel.html (a
great page) where there is a revised version of cartwheel kick written
by the game's designer. Sort of unofficial/official errata.

Also sometimes people get all copyrighty about copyrights around here
when talk of reproducing the entire book comes up, but people seem
fine with maneuver/style compilations etc. so I'd be careful not to
reproduce TOO much of the originals (anything approaching "the whole
thing") even though personally I wouldn't mind it at all.

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has a place where character backgrounds and
stories are written for the fighters in Street Fighter III 3rd Strike?

I am thinking about running the game after having it since it was
printed. I tend to play role-playing games to see what life would be
like in that universe. I am not sure how much information has been
written up on these characters in the United States.

Any advice?

If someone has a complete and undamaged character sheet for Amanda Raintree.

A character from the original core rulebook for the street fighter

storytelling game. I would be really thankful if you could share to me this

tiny tidbit of information. jpg or bmp format or even ms word or notepad

will do.

Please and thank you.

I just got an XBox (for sf4) and sf4.

Obviously I plan to convert these new characters to the rpg.

I created a table here at the group site for sharing x-box live
gamertags so we can play online together.

Not entirely on topic (rpg) but I figure we are all, or most Street
Fighter fans through and through.

Had a new guy find my site by random googlin' and asked me about it
(probably will happen a lot more now with the sfiv hype).

He said to put in a good word for him so I choose the word "cockpit". I
always thought it was a good word, because it sounds vaguely like a sexual
reference but isn't.

Anyway he is using the email address registrationadress@... which
might look to a mod like a stupid spambot, but it's not, so please don't
delete him.

Personally I like the word "fiasco".
I mean, you want to draw emphasis to something, call it a FIASCO.

I'll keep my eyes out for the join request.

Hi. So, you guys have online games here? I just got the SFRPG a few days ago. I made a character, don't know if it's any good, but that's what practice is for.

Okay, I'm settled at my new position and fired up a Street Fighter game... and then got saddled with non-posters.

So...

Street Fighter - Punch Someone in the Face
http://www.rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=34449

I'm being generous on character creation (it's a little fiddly), so read up if you want to play. If you can do up a full character, please do so.

The game is closer to Final Fight/Streets of Rage than Street Fighter, but I love the Street Fighter mechanics so there you go. There will probably be few to no one-on-one tournaments and will probably just be waves of opposition, non-fighting interludes and hopefully loads of witty repartee.

I only need a few players - last time I ran SF I had good players and too many of them and it was too hard for me to run with all I had going on. Here, I just need a few more.

Add in some kind of writing sample for your character and try to have as much fun with it as possible.
