Check out Warrior's Pride, the only SF:STG newsletter (that I've ever heard
of). It's online in the files section of the yahoogroup under Warrior's Pride.

Ok, so Im thinking of starting up a Street Fighter PBEM, and I got one
problem. I have no idea on how I would run Street Fighter combat in a
pbem.

Anyone got any ideas?

Maybe Savate needs to be revised. As it stands Savate isn't the
greatest anyway.

But Savate has magic shoes! So what would happen if a Western Kickboxer
but on some savate shoes? Would he get a bonus to damage as well? Why
can't every martial artist have these special shoes?

i think the description for spanish ninjitsu was simply written
before they even remotely conceived of making savate a style in the
game.

actually even before the STG like in descriptions from ther video
game ive heard (us)vegas style connected to savate.

and the "numbers" dont have to be the same to be related, could just
be the way their special and/or normal moves are executed. their
theory and execution. etc. story related stuff.

i would suggest getting just a quick paragraph, or 1 sentence would
be even better, that describes in general how they fight.

then you play it based on that.

"strategies" like in "Gateway" are just too much work for you to
focus on other aspects of GMing enough, and the way "Worlds
Strongest" was run is so slow its ut of the question.

savate fighters receive the bonus not for the shoes but for their kick

My 2 pence worth

Savate is a different style all togther between ninjitsu and Spanish
ninjitsu is what is termed as a Hybrid style. An almalgamation of 2 arts.
Or in vegas case a few stolen ninjitsu moves added to the Savate list.

He is calling it a different style and it is but Vega is in the middle of a
Savate fighter with some ninjitsu stuff. Simple!

Hope this helps!

Group: streetfighter Message: 14290 From: Rinaldo Gambetta Date: 2/4/2003
Subject: Re: Numeric Analysis
Searching in my files, I found an explanation:

While kicking, the fighter leans back much farther than other styles
allow or expect. This gives the fighter an additional +1 to his Soak roll,
provided the fighter is struck by an opponent who uses her superior Speed
advantage to interrupt a Savate kick attack. Any other move that is
interrupted will not give this Soak bonus, nor will Aerial Maneuvers (like
the Ax Kick), jumps or blocks. This Soak modifier also does not apply to any
types of leg sweeps or similar crouching maneuvers. In fact, a Savate
fighter takes a -1 Soak penalty when interrupted by a sweeping maneuver.
When kicking, a Savate Street Fighter gains a +1 dam-age modifier. This
simulates the hardened toecap of the Savate footwear and the fact that most
Savate kicks are thrusting kicks designed to strike a particular point on
the body, rather than sweeping blows to an entire limb. Other fighters have
difficulty blocking Savate kicks because the kicks are so difterent from the
methods they are trained to block.

Where did this description come from???

Savate as a martial art uses the same kicks as most kick kicking stlyes.
The description you have put below is more like the real style of Capoeira.
This uses odd angles and kicking styles but savate is a kicking style that
does not really have anything special about it - and where did the shoes
idea come from. The odd shoes are worn by Vega are bull fighters shoes not
Savate footwear.

Ditch combat. Fighting's not a big part of the Street Fighter game. Can't we
all just get along?

Having been doing martial arts for 12 years I would not say the details in
the Streetfighter manuals are accurate.....

It is an RPG and that is what needs to be remembered, the Savate in the game
is not accurate, some parts are that I will admit as many of the unique
punch attacks in Ninjitsu are very accurate but Savate is pretty far by the
description of its kicking styles meantioned earlier. Still is is a RPG and
a good one at that!

Savate is most like western style kickboxing in its art but its kicking
style is by NO means unique. Capoeira I would say is the exception to this
rule and from my experience Savate is not much different to Kick Boxing.

I don't think that the descriptions where intended to be recorded as
fact.just fun stuff. Just leave it at that. You cannot compare the game

Subject: Re: PBEM
Well first you must think about the world background, you know if you
plan a secret tournament or open contest... After the inital stage you must
set the character level, I don´t know what you plan but, low level
characters (Rank 1) are much easier to control than more advanced
characters.
Other thing the story don´t need to be a rack slash type, you can put
the players to think... Maybe some situation when the players just can´t use
their fists and need to work a litle more... Or maybe you just plan a lone
wolf campaing setting, all characters acting alone (Hard to control).
My sugestions:

1) The old Hong Kong tournament- Like the Gateway times, a tournament is
a great start to story but you must find something else to the players after
this, maybe the old cliche fight against Shadaloo or another evil... The
players start fighting for thenselves and for some reason must solve a
common situation.

2) My enemy my friend- This idea depends from a good background by the
players, maybe one of them have a enemy and soon he want to solve their
differences, but then something else appears and try to eliminate both, now
they must find who is the mysterious enemy, maybe a
Dark Chi user.

3) Corporation Tournaments- Make a tournament between great
corporations, a team tournament like King of Fighters.

Dammit AsQ, you never thought of asking me if i had some White

far more propaganda and a defense [to their usual readers then] of
their publication of the RPG. It gives no real information about the

Subject: Revised Spanish Ninjitsu (resend)
Now, I had a couple reasons for doing this revision. One of them was that
the descriptions didn't seem to match, which bugged me. Also, I wanted to
upgrade Vega's boys a bit for a new game and take my players by
surprise. No reason they should know what all the villains can do. So
using the description of Spanish Ninjitsu and what I can remember of Vega
from the games (not that I played much of them), I decided to use Savate as
a base, adding in some items from Ninjitsu and some throws. SN(r) is, in
my mind at least, a very mobile style granting a lot of long, moving
attacks, it's great strength being in it's kicks and the range it allows
users to fight at. I've removed all the Savate special rules for
this. Take a look a the following and let me know what you think.

A friend of mine showed me this survey put out by the Camarilla (the fan group,
not the vampi... blood sucking fiends... undead). There are a couple of SF
questions in it. If you care, point your browser at
http://www.q7.com/~bruce/survey and fill it out.

Apparently the Camarilla is thinking about expanding their thing to tabletop
stuff to. No mention of Rage or Wild Hunt or WW's other card games.

Hey kids, It's Ambrose. I have a fun questions to alleviate your boredom
and add to my files. So write away! And, yes I am so completely aware that
chain letters are lame. That being said if YOU have any shallow amusement
such as this, write me!

Welcome to the next edition of getting to know your friends. What you're
supposed to do is copy (not forward) this entire e-mail and paste it onto a
new e-mail that you'll send. Change all the answers so they apply to you.
Then send this to a whole bunch of people you know *INCLUDING* the person
who sent it to you. The theory is that you'll learn a lot of little known
facts about your friends and FINALLY SOME NEW QUESTIONS TO SPICE IT UP!

1. WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING?
Morning...?

2. IF YOU COULD EAT LUNCH WITH ONE FAMOUS PERSON, WHO WOULD IT BE?
Larry Hama.

3. GOLD OR SILVER?
Silver, for its association with Luna. She's pretty...

4. WHAT WAS THE LAST FILM YOU SAW AT THE CINEMA?
Daredevil

5. FAVORITE TV SHOW?
I don't really watch T.V., though I did tend toward funny hosts with
celebrity guests (Jon Stewart, Conan O'Brian, Dennis Miller).

6. WHAT DO YOU HAVE FOR BREAKFAST?
Breakfast...?

7. WHO WOULD YOU HATE TO BE LEFT IN A ROOM WITH??
Unattractive strangers. Y'know, the kind with open sores that tend to
frequent urban Denney's. Yeah.

8. CAN YOU TOUCH YOUR NOSE WITH YOUR TONGUE?
You wish.

9. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Oddly enough, it's often people.

10. WHAT'S YOUR MIDDLE NAME?
Gabriel. I hear he's the Angel of Death. Too bad I'm not cooler.

11. BEACH, CITY, OR COUNTRY?
Sleep. If I have to go anywhere I'd rather go drunk. To live, I would
rather live in the country, maybe the mountains.

12. SUMMER OR WINTER?
Winter. The girls look prettier, the weather is better, far less sunlight,
and no bugs. Oh, and blankets rock. MMMMMMMMM-WARM.

13. FAVORITE ICE-CREAM?
Pistachio Nut. It's green. Yeah.

14. BUTTERED, SALTED, OR PLAIN POPCORN?
I'ma go with Nic, "Buttered AND Salted". I also dig lemon pepper. What?!
Shutup! It's good. Yeah.

15. FAVORITE COLOR?
It depends.

16. FAVORITE CAR?
See photo. *drool*

17. FAVORITE SANDWICH FILLING?
Meatballs, with a good tomato sauce, Provolone, Mozzarella, and buried with
Parmesan.

18. TRUE LOVE?
...

19. WHAT CHARACTERISTICS DO YOU DESPISE?
No man, that would take forever.

20. FAVORITE FLOWER?
Um...Are roses too queer?

21. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU HAD A BIG WIN IN THE LOTTERY?
Ah, the inevitable Lotto Question. Well, I'd buy the top floor of the
building Downtown with the secret elevator, set up a loft with pricey
electronics, and a big table for all my friends(hee heee), and a store that
sells books, and games, and music, and snacks, and toys, and, and, and I
would be the biggest geek kingpin on the West Coast, and then, I would go to
school to learn what a run on sentence is. Then, I would buy and customize
a 1998 Dodge Viper GTS with the '97 wheels, an 18" black Remington 870
pump-action shotgun, a bottle of Dewar's' Scotch and a couple of other toys
and go on a road trip across America until I die, drunk in a fiery crash
that frightens the local cows, and the rest of my millions will go to all of
you ungrateful fucks who didn't even show up up my goddamned funeral 'cause
I demanded an open casket wake and the inept hayseed FUCK-HEAD county
coroner couldn't even identify my charred remains!!! Bastards.

22. FIZZY OR STILL WATER AS A DRINK?
Still.

23. WHAT COLOR IS YOUR BATHROOM?
Eastern Bloc concrete.

24. HOW MANY KEYS ON YOUR KEY RING?
I can't find it.

25. WHERE WOULD YOU RETIRE?
Right now? Flagstaff or Seattle. Or Oceanside.

26. CAN YOU JUGGLE? IF YES HOW MANY?
I just tried, and ...no.

27. FAVORITE DAY OF THE WEEK:
Like I ever know.

28. RED OR WHITE WINE?
Actually, I hate wine. I know, I know, if you refuse wine at dinner you
must be a drunk, but I jus- Waitaminit. I AM a drunk! Yay!

29. WHAT DID YOU DO FOR YOUR LAST BIRTHDAY?
Again, I defer to Nicole's wisdom. "Can't remember, must have sucked".

30. WHO DO YOU LEAST EXPECT TO SEND THIS BACK TO YOU?
Hi Holly!

31. WHO IS THE PERSON YOU EXPECT TO SEND THIS BACK FIRST?
Kim. She just wants to love herself.

32. WHAT THE FUCK MAKES YOU SO DAMN SPECIAL?
...*sniff*... ...nothing... ...*sniff*...

33. ARE YOU A JUNK MAIL PERSON OR NOT?
Sorta...

34. WHAT KIND OF SHOES DO YOU WEAR?
Old, dirty, beat up, ripped-and-held-together-with-duct-tape black boots.

Now add a question and send it to me!

Don't hate me because I'm lonely....

How works the K.O.F system in STF, my curious is how much for example if
fighter win and is replace by another fighter and rest for while, how much
he can recover in this litle break?

When I played K.O.F. in my adventure, I used this simple rule:

The match has 10 rounds. When you win the fight, you gain a number
of Health Levels equal to the remaing rounds (i.e., if you win the fight
in the third round (wow!), you will recover seven Health Levels).

Maybe you can increase the match to 20 rounds, it's up to you :-)

Hey Kids!

See, you are all having fun. Still, there are many who refuse to share in
our joy.

Join us! Answer my inane questions!

Also, how did "WTFN?" get on there? What's it mean? Anyone?

And what about this hiatus? When can we discuss SNK characters again?

Answer the call my children. Answer my (and Staredown's) questions.

And as a special gift to you, because you demanded it, my answers to
Staredown's question. Please hold your applause until the end.

New Questions that make it sorta relevant to the list:

35. CAMMY OR CHUN-LI?
Cammy, strictly on the basis of the high quality of www.cammyfan.org

36. ALPHA, EX, OR ORIGINAL?
Alpha 3 had lots of cool features, but my heart belongs to the opportunity
to carve out Ryu's liver with The Fugu Blade of Haoumaru and Capcom vs SNK
2. Rockin' the 15%, Baby! YEAH!!

37. PANTS?
Ripped and dirty. The chicks love it.

38. IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY STREET FIGHTER DO ANY ONE OF THEIR MOVES ON ANY
ONE
PERSON... UM WHO WHAT AND WHO?
Thrax's Vulcan Cannon on Gwen Stefani, or that J-to-tha-HO who is clearly
keepin' Affleck down. "Word, bitch! Phantoms like a mother fucka!"

39. ALL RIGHT, CAPCOM HAS MADE OTHER FIGHTING GAMES BESIDES THE SF/Vs. ONES.
WHAT ONES DO YOU PLAY?
Tech Romancer and DarkStalkers! I love John Talbain, but what the hell was
with the White Wolf endorsment?

40. IGNORING SF:STG FOR A SECOND, WHAT RPGS DO YOU LIKE THE MOST?
I really enjoy White Wolf's World of Darkness, Macross II/Robotech, Rifts,
CyberPunk 2020, and a special nod to WarHammer Fantasy Role-play.
But not D&D. Too gay. Way too gay. Even for me.

41. DO THE WORDS 'MOVE ZIG FOR GREAT JUSTICE' INSPIRE YOU TO VIOLENCE?
Yes.

42. IF YOU COULD HAVE A CHAT WITH ANY SF CHARACTER, WHO WOULD IT BE (ASSUME
THAT THEY CAN SPEAK IN SUBTITLES)?
Ken Masters, I'd ask him for a grant.

I do it all for you, my friends.

Hey kids,

Well, the way my old GM used to run the things was to pick three fighters,
face 'em off against three other fighters, and duke it out one on one. No
health regained, no tagging out. Just smash. I had the strongest guy go
first in hopes that he could clear out all three opponents. However, when I
play the video game I save my best(often Terry) for last.

So, now I gotta question. Who is your favorite K.O.F. team + striker?

Mine used to be Heidern's team, with Ralf and Clark, but now, sadly, I go
with The Warriors of Destiny. Andy and Terry Bogard, Joe Higashi with The
Dual Suspension Ninja Girl Mai Shiranui for a striker and bonus eye candy.
Also: to bug Andy.

Don't forget my questions! Thanks Slappy.

Joe Higashi (my best character), Blue Mary (I like her better than Mai), and
Yamazaki (I never make a team without at least one psychopath. Plus I figure
he's Lina's (Bubblegum Crisis) ancestor). I never really got down with
strikers, so I would usually randomize them. Which means, for reasons known
only to the randomize seed in KOF Evolution, I would usually get K'.

Funny you should mention Team Battles. My artical for the next issue of the
Pride (which probably will not come out until the day when all are one) is a
dissertation on that very topic...

I think it involved a poker game, a lot of saki and dirty water (domestic

A grant from Ken Masters??? That would definately be an intresting
conversation but why would Ken need subtitles? He's american.

(mr brady voice)
Cindy, when you call DnD gay your actually calling yourself gay.
DnD is exactly what you make it.
it varies from group to group.
no 2 ppl play it the same, and no 2 DMs run it the same.

so if your experience with DnD left a gay taste in your mouth, try
not being so gay when you play DnD.

-----------
(btw i assume you are using the word gay to mean bad. which wont win
you any awards, but correct me if your actually saying that it is
homosexual in nature)

It's an RPG in the style of the Old Warner Brother's Cartoons. You make up a
character which can be just about anything you want as long as it's silly.
When you get Bonked (knocked out), it lasts for three minutes real time. I've
never actually played the game, and I can't see it working for long campaigns,
but it sounds like the perfect party game.
