Group: streetfighter Message: 14224 From: Erik the Odd Date: 1/16/2003
Subject: Breaking up is hard to do.
Okay, it's obvious that you are confused and worn out by thinking about
this, so I'll go easy on you. This means only minimal swearing will be
used, but be warned. On my best days, even when I try to sound nice, I
sound condesending.

You asked if you should break up with someone because they don't like RPing,
right?

No. Definately not.

Listen. Even the best relationship, at times, is a delicate balancing act,
and everyone in a relationship has been called to make sacrifices for that
relationship. Everyone. Not just the Role Players out there. Listen to
the ex-jocks at a sports bar whine about how hard it can be to get to the
bar, even if it's just to watch the Raiders on Monday Night. Listen to the
overworked white collar talk to the crowd around the water cooler about how
his woman doesn't understand how he spends so much time at work. "But she
has no trouble spending the check at the end of the week!" he'll exclaim.

As you progress in your relationship, you'll notice little quirks in each
other that, not balanced by how much you care for the other person, would
drive you nuts. Trust me, she'll do things that you don't like.

This is where the balance comes in. If you are a fucking man about what's
going on in your head, and you're brave enough to be honest with your woman,
then it'll go a lot easier. Talk to her. Tell her about all the things you
enjoy in her. Talk about all of her qualities; all the reasons you decided
to be in a relationship with her in the first place. Then tell her about
how much you enjoy spending time with her.

Now let her know that your friends, who you role-play with, also mean a
great deal to you. Tell her a few stories about when your RPing group was
just hanging around, not role-playing. This will show her that you are
being sincere.

Here's where being a fucking man about things comes in. YOU are now
responsible for spending time with your woman. Occasionally, this will mean
not RPing on Saturday. Make some hot chocolate, rent a few movies. Enjoy
yorself. When she asks about why you're not RPing on Saturday, tell her, "I
missed you, and it wasn't vital that I be there this week, anyway." This
will show her that SHE IS IMPORTANT.

Women need to know that they are important.

Then, set up a regular night, say, every other week, every week, whatever,
that's reserved for your friends and you. If she wants to show up, let her.
But be sure to say those six little words.

"Cool. But we're only Role Playing."

Oh, by the way. It's good to plan a date or a movie, or something on the
weekend day that you're not RPing. And get some sleep the night before.
Remember, it helps her know that she's important, too.

Remember, though. This doesn't really answer the question. Should you dump
your girl because she doesn't like Role Playing? No. After all, that'd be
like me dumping my wife because she doesn't like Faith No More. It's just
another thing to have an opinion on. So what if she doesn't like role
playing. I don't like cars with big, custom spoilers and flashing lights in
the wheels.

Get it?

Until further notice, I am, and will remain,
Erik the Odd,
Scion of the Holy Roman Empire.

PS... One more thing. If, during a game, she asks some questions, be
patient and answer them. Treat her like she was a new player that didn't
know a damned thing. It'll go over better later, trust me.

Okay. Music, music, music.

Now, for characters like Ken, you know, flashy, ultra-modern, etc, I
tend towards KMFDM, and the like. The music has to be something the
character would enjoy. Keep it quick, powerful. Full of bass.
Trance music would work, but KMFDM's "Juke Joint Jezebel" is a great
example.

The super-urban types, like Boxers and Cappoiera from the cities?
Lets go with early Rap. Like, lessee... Public Enemy, early Run-
DMC, etc. Make sure it hits!

But this is easy. The tough part is finding the appropriate music
for the less urban, more spiritual styles. Like, what the hell can
you play for a Tai Chi chu'an fighter with musical backup? Can't go
with Enya, too Celtic. Can't go with Shonen Knife, too modern. I
mean, you might be able to find something for a Native American
Wrestler, but what about a Pankration specialist? (*chuckle*
everyone remember those?)

I generally don't match music to character as I rather match music to the
scene and mood.

And I love finding fight scene music. So currently on my play lists are:

Fight Club
Epsilon Minus (for scene intros and filler music. Love the band)
VNV
Wumpscut
Limp Bizkit (perfect fit for some scenes/characters)
KMFDM
White Zombie/Rob Zombie remixes (Most of the remixes are better than the
original IMO)
Korn
Blade 1 rave scene
Blade 2 vampire dance club (The Roots & BT - Tao Of The Machine )
Gravity Kills (another band that has good remixes)
Godsmack (I Stand Alone is killer
Orgy
Mortal/Fold Zandura (not all of it but some of their harder edged stuff like
what came off of their Lusious album.)

And depending on my mood, most of the Queen of the Damned soundtrack.

But those are my picks.

If you feel that you need to break up with a girl because you like to rpg, then you either like to rpg waaaaay to much (if you like her) or you don't like her as much as you thought you did. Then again, you might have found a really good game.

Me, personally, I'd use something by Kitaro (who, IMO, is one of the better New Age Artists in existance.)

Here's one. What genre would you use for:

* a Wu Shu artist who thinks she's a magical girl (a.k.a. Sailor Moon)?

* a Spec. Forces trained hacker/troubleshooter?

* a punked-out, make-up wearing, Ler Drit weilding rocker with flaming halitosis? (Okay, bad Gene Simmons ref. Sorry all you KISS fans!)

* a Kung Fu Air Elemental who's decended from dragons?

* a Playboy Bunny who knows Muay Thai?

These are just a small sample (except for the rocker) of some of the PC's and NPC's in my old campaign.

Food for thought.

Josh

Belly. They were a Grrl group that was big for five minutes or so in
the early '90s. Look for the tracks "Dusted" and "Angel". Oh, and
there are others on that album that might work.

>
> * a Spec. Forces trained hacker/troubleshooter?

Look for stuff by MC Chris. He's big on the geek end of things. I
know, if SpecOps trained him, he's -not- a geek. But hey. He works
with computers. So look for MC Chris.

>
> * a punked-out, make-up wearing, Ler Drit weilding rocker with

Gwar. I recommend either their "Scumdogs of the Universe" album (a
truly seminal work) or else their "Ragnarok" album. Take note,
however. I suggest you read the lyrics first. Of course, for the
true effect, I'd say read the lyrics while you're listening to the
albums for the first time. It's truly worth the effort.

>
> * a Kung Fu Air Elemental who's decended from dragons?

Classical music. Try Orff, or Rachmanninoff.

> * a Playboy Bunny who knows Muay Thai?

Garbage. Their first album might make things interesting. (That, and
it's just plain sexy music.)

Pity you weren't aski8ng about anyone in a current campaign. I might
have been more help. Of course, you -do- still have to get the stuff
by MC Chris and the two GWAR cds. You just have to.

You should do this now.

there are others on that album that might work.

Look for stuff by MC Chris. He's big on the geek end of things. I
know, if SpecOps trained him, he's -not- a geek. But hey. He works
with computers. So look for MC Chris.

Classical music. Try Orff, or Rachmanninoff.

J-pop. Specifically Catch Me Catch Can (Intro theme to Card Captor Sakura).
She's practically a Wu Shu fighter when she uses the fight card...

Helloween's Twilight of the Gods sees very apropriate to me for some reason.

I believe you just answered your own question.

Ride the Dragon by Manowar

While I've never watched a playboy video (no, really. I haven't), I assume
that they have music on them. Since several bunnies in real life are black
belts, it seems apropriate to use that.

Gwar-Scumdogs of the Universe

Truly one of the greatest albums in my collection.

And just you see- when your players get into it- and a character is ready to
strike with an aerial move- they'll all be listening to the CD and quiet down
for that dramatic pause just before shouting out

"Deathpod comes from the Sky!!!"

and roll the dice, and seeing their results are successful, scream out

"It Does!"

You just get your hands on the album- you'll see it happen too.

Subject: Ruining a perfectly good boss character!
Okay, so you're tired of dramatic, regal Ler Drit fruitcups out
there. And you need to figure out what to play at the next Street
Fighter session? You want to ruin a perfectly good Ler Drit boss-
type character? I mean, completely tear away any drama from the
character. This is how.

1) Give him Plasma Fart. You'll find that it is one of the moves in
Battle Arena Toshinden II, and not at all different from Yoga
Flame... Uh, except from the origin of the flame. (Ran into a
hillbilly named Backblast once, but that's another story. ^_^)

2) Buy Gwar's "Hell-o!". Listen to it until you know the entire
album, word for word. (Note: Since they didn't think anyone would
actually be -listening- to the album, they didn't include lyrics. So
this part could take a while. But then, it'll help you get into
Heaven. ^_^ Or not.) Then play it at the session where they PCs
are supposed to get the final bad guy.

3) Have the Character review a Shadowlaw report that the PCs have
landed at the Boss' hangout (Island paradise, volcano in the South
Pacific, whatever). Have him walk over to one of his Minarette
windows, glower meaningfully out of said window with the report
clutched in fist held behind his back.

4) Have the Ler Drit master (with Plasma Fart) say the following, to
the music of course... "Hmmph. Surely it is their death they seek;
To brave my toxic anal leak!" (At this point he should be shaking
his fist in front of his face, very Bison-like.)

Then, have him storm from the room.

Now, there are a few different levels that this works on. The first,
is that it's an obvious parody of every Chop-Socky movie out there.
You know the ones. The bad guy finally realises that he'll have to
take care of the good guys personally. So he storms out, all by
himself, to get the job done. Second, it instantly lets the players
know that the entire time the PCs have been after this guy, he's been
something of a joke. (Of course, coupled with his cruelty to
children, bilking of old people out of their retirement checks, etc,
you may get people who hate the guy anyway. Which is fine.)

Ultimately, though, it ruins the drama of the character completely,
and leaves him in tatters as a character. Hey, I don't really know
why you'd wanna do this. I just told you -how-. And hey, let's face
it. Yoga Flame is pretty strong. So, Plasma Fart might be a viable
move! I dunno... Maybe a Yoga Flame that's slower by one speed.
(You have to turn around, right?)

Just imagine their faces when they say, "My Boxer lost to someone
with Plasma Fart!" *shakes head* You know what? It might be better
just to forget I said anything.

Anything by Blumchen. Some german rave girl. Like a hand in a glove.

> > * a Kung Fu Air Elemental who's decended from dragons?

Classical lead by an 'erhu'. It's that stereotypical chinese fiddle you always hear in kung fu love/death scenes.

> > * a Playboy Bunny who knows Muay Thai?

Muay Thai music! They always have a band playing at fights in Bangkok (in RL), and it's crazy. Just a bunch of guys improvising based on what the fight's doing.
It may not inspire most westerners but the fighters seem to dig it.

> Wrestler, but what about a Pankration specialist? (*chuckle*
> everyone remember those?)

Hell, I train in Pancrase (again, RL) and we just listen to anything. My favorite is Too Legit for the Pit. It's bunch of old rap tunes covered by hardcore bands.
"Mamma said knock you out" sounds like the band is beathing the hell out of each other while they play. I could use a little of that right now, I think.

Alright,
Last night I got bored so I downloaded and played SFA2 for the first
time (I know I know, don't get me started.. I just never had a chance
to play it). Now, first off..... could this game be any easier? I
played Rose and got through it undefeated my very first time playing
on the regular difficulty setting but that's not why I'm writing
this...

can someone fill me in on this Rose character? Who is she? What's her
background story? What's her beef with Bison? I'm very curious about
her, in fact... just a link on where I can find background info on
all the characters would be super but failing that, Just some info
about Rose would be great.

thanks all!

Rose is the product of a secret US government experiment in eugenics. The
stated purpose of the project was to create a person who liked all pizza
toppings (even extra salty anchovies), but they instead created the ultimate
SF:STG player, making it a partial success.

Like all SF:STG players, she eventually got it in her head that her purpose in
life was to take down Lord Vega (hey, I'm sure we all went through that phase),
so she enters the fighting arena intent on beating the snot out of the man in
the red suit (no, not Santa. The other man in the red suit), and maybe finding
the recipe for egg salad.

I got all this from Cosmo.

for the Wu Shu girlie.

not yet but I HEAVILY played the first one and the move editor is
exactly the same i think, to the point of being able to import your
old FM1 stuff into FM2.

i think the only new thing in the sequel is now you can heavily
customize the way they look as well, which you couldnt do at ALL in
the first one.

Its a really powerfull tool but it requires actual talent to make
anything good on from scratch. those not good at animation can still
cut n paste other ppls moves though.

I would recomend.

well theres "capcom all stars" or some such coming out,
many sf and other capcom characters, old ones like mike hagaar, and
even totally new ones.

I dont know if the story there will be canon or not though in the sf
world.

On a side note, not Street Fighter but related...
Soul Caliber 2 is being released on all three home platforms (PS2, X-box, and GC) with a unique character only available on each game.
X-Box - Spawn (yes, THE Spawn, McFarlan's Spawn, that Spawn...) who comes equipped with an axe.
PS2 - Heihatchi (sp?) armed with, get this, a magic gauntlet.. the dreaded Tekken! (Rough translation - Iron Fist, I think. Could be wrong on the translation)
GameCube - Adult Link from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Master Sword and all.
Just thought people would be interested....

Well I don´t remember the last time I wrote but I remember the old
folks: Karstensen, Pittman, Hoffman, Morgado,Rice and other good friends...
:). I don´t know who still in the list anyway, but greatings for everyone
(regards from who play Gateway tournament).
Now about your question here a description From: "STREET FIGHTER: THE
ENCYCLOPEDIA COMBATICA SECOND EDITION
MANEUVER COMPILED FROM WHITE WOLF AND NEW MANEUVERS BY SCOTT PITTMAN."
I recomend you download the book, you can find it in the group files.
but anyway I hope you can understand this outstanding maneuver.

Rising Storm Crow (pw 60) The fighter grabs the victim's head and flips over
him, then flip-throws him foward
Grab Maneuver
To Learn: The fighter first learns Throw {athletics 1}, then The Rising
Storm Crow {grab 3, athletics 3, throw}
Power Points: majestic crow kung fu 4, kung fu 5
System: the fighter must start at least two hexes away from his target.
he can throw the target in a straight line foward for as many hexes equal to
his strength. the target takes two damage tests; one at the fighter's
strength -3 (botches for this roll should be ignored and concidered to be 0
dmage, although the maneuver is NOT interrupted) when the forced flip is
initiated, then another at twice the fighter's Strength when the victim
crashes to the ground. Thus, a character with a high strength throws farther
and harder. The opponent automaticaly suffers a knockdown whether or not he
receives any damage form either test. Both damage tests combine to detirmine
whether or not the victim is dizzied.
Modifiers: cost 1 willpower, speed: -3, damage -3/x2, move +2 (minimum move
2)

I realy hate Heihatchi and his entire freaky combo family, the game is
only made to them, the true challenge when you play Tekken is when you pick
a character like Jack or Kunimitsu, but it´s only my humble idea about this
game, this remember me the hideous anime from tekken, man it´s terrible.

I did check and, at first, I was profoundly disturbed. But then I realized
what it ment. It ment that Heihachi basically has the Tekken tournament
wrapped around his little finger! Heihachi is that bad ass!

Don't underestimate Jack. He is King... er... He rules at Tekken 3's Ball
mode.

It's even freeware, so you have none of those pesky moral qualms about

So, I'm home, bored and reading through Secrets of Shadowloo when I get to
the Spanish Ninjitsu section. It's supposed to be descended from Ninjitsu
and Savate, but I couldn't really see the similarity to Savate in the move
write up. Anyway, I started running a points of similarity comparison
which then expanded to include all the styles. I'm easily amused by
math. Anyway, the results are as follows:

Style Points of Similarity
AI 3
BA 3
BX 0
CA 6
JJ 4
JK 8
KA 2
KF 2
LD 5
LU 4
MC 5
NA 5
NI 8
PA 7
SA 4
SF 7
SI 1
SK 1
SV 3
SW 1
TC 5
TK 0
WK 2
WR 4
WS 12

Not all that much like Savate at all, eh? What's that mean, probably
nothing more than the fact I'm somewhat anal. Well, that and I should be
posting a revised SN for the lists perusal later in the week.

Actually, it means that Balrog has been stalking Chun-Li for _a lot_ longer
than we thought. Seriously, she should look into getting a restraining order.

Check out Warrior's Pride, the only SF:STG newsletter (that I've ever heard
