I take it you guys don't own Secrets of Shadoloo?

Vega's description is EXPLICIT about adding the Claw Technique to his
Tumbling Attack damage (its in one of those colored boxes); its not
in the Tumbling Attack maneuver entry or on his character sheet.
That's why I called this an "annoying oversight" -- they didn't
include any 'Claw Technique' in Vega's stats, but went out of their
way to make sure you knew to add the Claw weapon modifiers and
Technique to the Vega's Tumbling Attack damage.

Ahh...here's where the oversight stemmed from.

Secrets of Shadoloo came out before Player's Guide. The rulings for weapon skills are in Player's Guide, so therefore they HAD to find someway to make sure Vega has a weapon to count.

Whhen Ryu blocks this move he reduces Vega's damage dice by 10 (block + stamina). The less you have, the more likely you botch. I don't think Vega can last very long on his Tumbling Attack on just 1-3 dice. ^_^

yes that truly was an annoying oversight.
they specifically tell you to use his rating in "claw" which doesnt
exist.

I thought they just forgot to give him a rating in claw, they could
have still done that using the original weapon rules from the main
sourcebook.

Could you repeat the text exactly? Maybe Claw Technique is a blooper and
they actually meant Weapon Modifier, but didn't clarify later when the PG
came out.

VEGA'S CLAW:

Vega frequently employs a claw when in combat. He prefers this
weapon over all others, primarily because it does not interfere with
his many throws and holds.

New Weapon -- Claw: +1 Speed, +1 Damage, +0 Move

Special: Vega can use Grab Techniques while using his claw. The
maneuver modifiers add to the speed and damage of his Tumbling Roll
and his three Strikes (which replace his three Punches). His dots
in Claw Technique are added to his Damage roll.

(No dots in Claw Technique are listed)

Weapons were in the Main Rulebook, as well as weapon modifiers.

About Vega, the more logical way to deal with this would be it seems to just
add the weapon damage modifier to the damage of the tumbling attack.
I can't see what being an expert with a weapon would help you do more damage
in an attack like the tumbling attack.

And if you look at the console game, vega only strike with his claw at the
end of the move...and if he loosed the claw before, he just finish with his
hand.....

My 2 Cents (of euro) comments....yes we can now too speak about cents =P

I figure they mean the weapon damage modifier.
There is no "Claw Technique" thus it seems quite obvious that you should use
what they give you: the Claw Modifiers. Understanding the rules of the game,
there is no instance where you should add two techniques plus an attribute
together. Otherwise, behold my fighter with his Jab damage being: Strength +
Punch + Sword Tech + Sword Modifiers + Jab Modifiers. Be afraid!

I feel to interpret it that way is misreading the paragraph (page 22 of
Secrets of Shadoloo). However, it is written in a way that a bit of thinking
is necessary (as it's not very clear and can easily be miscontrued as being
quite horrific).
I shall attempt to go over this confusing entry and make some sense of it:

Quote:
"VEGA'S CLAW:

Vega frequently employs a claw when in combat. He prefers this
weapon over all others, primarily because it does not interfere with
his many throws and holds.

New Weapon - Claw: +1 Speed, +1 Damage, +0 Move

Special: Vega can use Grab Techniques while using his claw. The
maneuver modifiers add to the speed and damage of his Tumbling Roll
and his three Strikes (which replace his three Punches). His dots
in Claw Technique are added to his Damage roll."

First Point:
"The maneuver modifiers add to the speed and damage" - What maneuver? Do
they mean Claw Technique, Claw Modifiers, Grab Technique?
Obviously, the author isn't writing what he means (conveying his intent)
because this makes no sense. No maneuver was mentioned. Thus "The maneuver"
refers to nothing.
I would like to make a motion to decide that the author is not in fact
talking about a maneuver but something else.

Second Point:
"his three Strikes (which replace his three Punches)." - This would seem to
indicate that he cannot Punch. Therefore, his Punch is actually his Claw
Technique. (We know from the videogame that he actually can Punch, just not
that awesomely.)

Third Point:
"His dots in Claw Technique are added to his Damage roll." - As the author
didn't actually seem to mean "maneuver" when he stated "maneuver" under my
first point, I would like to move that he doesn't actually mean Technique
here, but in fact, redundantly, his Claw Modifiers. Previously stated, his
three strikes replace his Punches which means that his Punch is actually his
Claw Technique. It doesn't make much sense to add that Technique to itself
again.
"His dots in Claw Technique are added to his Damage roll." - Wow? To all of
his attacks? To take this at face value, that's what it means. I do firmly
believe that this is simply redudancy, actually meaning to add the Claw
Weapon modifiers (+1,+1,+0) to his Tumbling Attack (Str + Athletics) and to
his three punches (Str + Punch - or claw if you prefer to call it that).

Clearly, the author didn't understand the meaning of the words he was using
(typos or Freudian slips (sp?) perhaps).
With much thinking on the subject, I am confident that the above was what he
trying to say.
Regardless, I just want to beseech the members of this list before they do
anything rash such as taking this entry from the book at face value:

Use caution.
Use discretion.

>> Well, Vega's Tumbling Attack doesn't do that huge damage in the videogame
anyhow so blocking it's 11 dice with a 10 soak would seem to be pretty
accuration. However, Ryu can't beat Vega on tie break with a combo Tumbling
Attack (speed 9) so it will defeat the speed of his Block in many cases.

Subject: Re: annoying oversights
sorry guys, problem with machine.

As I was trying to say before, I don't believe that this has gone on for as
long as it has without someone hitting paydirt.

Vega has a claw. Vega's claw modifiers are +1, +1, +0. Now according to
the rules for a couple of weapons, you use a different technique to a
"weapon" technique, And yes, these do exist, like sword technique, or knife
technique, hell even gun technique if you want to go crazy. Best example I
can think of right off the top of my head is the Cestus or Katar. Both of
these are punch daggers and as such use the punch technique, not a seperate
weapon technique to resolve damage.

There are others that use different ones, but lets focus on this for now.
Let me break it down for you.

"Special: Vega can use Grab Techniques while using his claw."
(This is an exception to the rule where you are not allowed to grab while
using weapons, so he has something special.)

"The maneuver modifiers add to the speed and damage of his Tumbling Roll"
(Once again something special, showing years of devoted practice.)

"and his three Strikes (which replace his three Punches)."
(Now this was the big giveaway. I don't care if Vega can punch in the
videogame, this is the role playing game, and in this, unless he is doing a
special punch move, he uses his claw. The three strikes, jab, strong and
fierce, as outlined in the main book, are what he is doing, and he is using
his punch technique +/- maneuver modifer + weapon modifier)

Example: Vega dashes in a gives Borris a fierce strike. Vega uses his
strength 5(?), punch tech of 5, maneuver mod of +3, and weapon mod of +1.
So Vega dashes in and does a potential 14 dice, minus Borris' stamina of 4,
having 10 dice to roll.

"His dots in Claw Technique are added to his Damage roll."
(Ok, now this is an obvious misprint. He has no separate weapon technique
as such, although some/most weapons do require it. Itc ould have mean his
Punch technique, or his claw modifiers, either one works.)

Subject: Combo off Abort
Last night we decided to stop allowing a Combo off of an Aborted
manueuver (specifically, the Block).

The situation was that a Thai Kickboxer was facing off of a Kung Fu
artist in a tourney. The Kickboxer would go for the Tiger Knee,
while the Kung Fu artist would go for a Roundhouse. The Roundhouse
damage was such that the Kickboxer didn't feel as though he had
enough Stamina to suck up the Roundhouse and not get dizzied, so he
would interrupt the Roundhouse with the Tiger Knee.

The Kung Fu artist Aborted to the Block, knowing he had a Block to
Hundred Hand Slap (dizzy) Combo that the Kickboxer would be unable
to Block, due to its Speed. The kickboxer had seen this particular
combo used earlier in the tourney, and so knew it would kill him if
it hit, so he Aborted to the Block rather than use the Tiger Knee,
thinking to use his Block to Tiger Knee combo.

End result? Both fighters aborted to a Block rather than attack.

Next round, the Tiger Knee goes off at 9 Speed. Same deal occurs --
the Kung Fu artist aborts to the Block (which goes off because of
the +2 Speed from executing a Block last turn [*]), so the kickboxer
AGAIN aborts to the Block.

Second round of nothing happening.

What a crock of poo! No fighting? Just a Willpower-fueled Abort-
fest? Bah!

So, no more Combo-ing off of the Abort for our game. And I have to
say, when we replayed out the fight with this new change, the fight
was much more satisfying.

[*] - we had previously decided that despite a Block following a
Block normally allowing the second Block to go at infinite Speed, if
the second Block was an Abort rather than a played card, it would go
at normal Block speed (+4) plus the bonus for following a Block (+2).

Subject: Re: Combo off Abort
We have a rule where you cannot stop an attack because your opponent aborts
to a block against your attack. It's impossible because you were already
throwing your attack. You have to at least throw the first hit of the attack
(or all if not a multi-hit). You often don't realize they're blocking until
the moment before you connect (when they either declare or abort to their
Block).

Also, (our method of playing) you cannot abort after you have moved even a
single-hex. Once you've committed yourself to your action in any fashion,
say goodbye to any chance of any Abort maneuver (i.e. just how I figured the
rules work - you can only Abort before you've committed to your action that
round).

Thus, we've never had any problem with aborting to a Jump and being able to
act on a Jump to whatever combo on the next round (Abort maneuver combos are
a pretty handy thing).

Has anyone done up a style for mexican wrestling? Its
way to quick and air intensive for me to think of

You could argue that Native American Wrestling could be used for a grappling style that has alot of athletics.....Besided, T. Hawk (NAW poster boy) DOES fight in mexico. If that's not suited for you, just use the general 'Wrestling' style listed in "The Contenders". They say that covers things from greco-roman to Pro-wrestling. Just customize it to your character as need be: not every sanbo has to be Zangief. =)

Wrestling (from Contenders) isn't what you're looking for.

I'll take a poke at it, sure. Give me a week.

Puerto Rican Wrestling: One of my players sent me this. Puerto Rico doesn't
subscribe to traditional Lucha Libre, but instead mixes Lucha Libre stylings

Cool thanks. I also agree now that I think about
native american wrestling might be a good one to look
at for a general idea.

well native american wrestling won't work. Not enough
aerial moves. A very nice selection of grapples and
athletics all the same though. Where can I find the
website for champs?

Hello everyone,

I am new to this group. I recently played Street Fighter III 3rd
Strike for Dreamcast. I was curious about the origins of the
characters. What is known about them? Anything written out there?

Please let me know!

various sources which i have forgot the specifics of.

I know I base it on the games endings where possible.

Some of them I typed directly from the instruction manuals (most of
EX's)

I got some from web FAQs, strategy guides, and fan pages.

If I ever just MAKE something up that is BS I will put a BS
disclaimer on it. like, if i need to make it fit into the rpg world
by making up a assanine meteor like white wolf did or some nonsense.

I try to stick to actual stories from official sources though.

LOL, has anyone ever read the description of RYU in the EX2 guide?
something about "his every fight is to the death" and "he is
struggling to resserect the emperor". its HORRIBLE!

Hey Guys,

The new location of the CHAMPS and DOGS OF WAR pages can be found
at: http://www2.tsixroads.com/~sblade/rpg/pages.html

Please update your bookmarks and such. The new pages are at my own
domain (dragonslayergames.com) and will not have those annoying pop-
up banners and the like. Thanks!

delete it. It is a dead link.

Really? I wasn't sure if it was making fun *with* martial arts or making fun
*of* martial arts. I may rent it when it hits the video stores.

It makes fun of martial arts movies. Endless bad dubbing jokes, nods to
various special effects (mMtrix, Romeo Must Die, CTHD), a few jabs at the
formula itself, and general goofiness. I say go ahead and rent it. I
thought the film was okay, but paying full price for a 70-minute movie is a
special brand of offensive.

That's true. My webpage hasn't been updated since the carter administration.
I'll probably do something about that someday...
