Subject: I am back.
Hey, guys,

Looks like I'm back online (hold your applause). I am again active on the
net, forthe summer, apparently, and it looks like starting New LEgends
Online may be in order!
A few details though:

Our net access is hooked through my dad's computer, not my own as I once
thaought. So, I have taken this opportunity to explore a few other ways of
conducting the games. At this time I have downloaded AOL Instant Messenger.
You don't have to be a AOL user to use it, and I heard that it may be able
to support more people in a chat room, therefore eliminating our prior
problems with ICQ. You allknow where to find it, so download it and give it
a try. My name is Dchen8677.

Also, since I am at home, I have 2 e-mail programs. If there is anything
anyone wants to talk to me personally about, please mail me at
dare2live@....

Hopefully, I can get New Legends Online back up and running. I'll see ya'll
around.

Darrick Chen

No worries, Aliens are very cool, after all. It's just that I'm a bigger SF
fan than I am an Alien fan. I wonder how a SF would do against some of the
aliens from Starwars?

Apparently the new version of ICQ doesn't have the problems anymore, I have
yet to down load it, so I can't say if thats true or not.

P.S where do you download AOL instant messager?

Ok people, Before i answer this ...these letters are getting ridiculous lly long, no one keeps deleting previous quoted material.

Any ways...
Interestingly enough...street fighter the video games have all used one aspect of what is written in the players book.

Mutants....Blanka.
Cyborgs....The russian charcter in SF3
Elementals..The guy who lives in brazil and only uses one arm is supposedly an earth elemental.

Hey every one.
Ok.....
As for the predator. Im sorry but I think you only have it partially right.
Despite there size predators are quite dexterious stong and tough.

Aliens on the other hand vary. There are to many diffrent varietys of aliens.

While the fight s would be interesting to say the least. I do not think it would be advisable in either case.

1) The aliens bleed an acidic blood.Getting sprayed with this stuff would be very bad for street fighters.

2) On the matter for the predators. Equipment and firearms is heavily downplayed in Streetfighter.

This discussion is similair to the one we had a whole back involving the mixing
of SF with WoD. In this case it would be much harder and vicious.
and if the movies for either of these species was precident, Luck was more important in the defeat of either species than skill.

If you were to add them you would need the berserk rules from the players book most likely.

Unfortunatly the fact that we get our info from the movies is a problem as well. If these monsters are so vicious would ripley have survived.

as for the superior organism thing.....Superior in what aspect?
They might be superior over us in physical capabilities...
but we might be better then them intellectually.

Oh, someone is still alive out there. The reason of my silence is simply the
fact that my exam (yes, one per semester) is coming up in, say... 6 days.
Oooouch!

I have practiced Kendo for two years, two years ago. But Kendo is rather
basic compared to most other martial arts. I can almost remember all the
variations of all the chops possible to throw (and their Japanese names
too!).

Kristofer

P.S. Pointless, but I have to tell everyone. One of my buddies and my littil
bro both won one class each in a painting contest that was settled today! GW
stuff of course. I'm soooooo proud!

something involving closure fighting. If anyone knows where I could find a

Well, to be honest, I have only practiced a few martial arts. Most of my
focus is Northern Shaolin Kung Fu (Long Fist Boxing) hich I studied for
about a year. Then I studied Tai Chi Chuan for a year. Other than that, I've
taken a smattering of other arts, including Tae Kwon Do (a little too
militant for my taste), and I took a seminar in Ninjutsu. Also, I and
friend tried to pick up Capoeira and failed miserably at it.
My shoddy resume aside, I should say that I have STUDIED the MArtial arts
more than PRACTICE them. Meaning, I approach martial arts from a scholarly
point of view. I have spent the last eight years studying and comparing the
differnt styles that exist in the world, with a focus on the obscure ones
like savate, pencak silat, and others.
Martial arts is a passion for me, and not becuase of the violence aspect. To
me, martial arts are not about violence; it's about grace and fluidity of
movement, man controlling his body and and at the same time knowing his
limits.

That's all Ihave to say about that.

yes, but a Dex 3 is considered "quite" dextrous.  Two is average, so three is above average without being superhuman which, I'm sorry to say, Predators are not. :)

Ripley survived because she was the hero.  Simple as that. :)

I don't believe for one second that aliens are not very dangerous.  the Predators wouldn't hunt them if they weren't.  But for all their speed, instinct (hive mentality) and natural defenses, they can still be popped at thirty paces with a sniper rifle.

Just like a Street Fighter.

not that I've ever done that, mind you.  What I mean is that regardless of what sort of adaptations you make, there are always other ways around a character's fighting skill.

Frenzy would not apply to Aliens for two reasons.  One, as stated, they are a hive-mind creature, with the Queen at the head.  If it is necessary to sacrifice oneself for the hive, an alien drone will not think twice about it.  It will be done.  Two, Aliens do not frenzy because frenzy is a manifestation of the survival instinct, and as already stated, an alien's self-will is not the issue, it's the hive.

Erm, okay, one and a half reasons.  Still, aliens have no minds.  Ever see a cockroach frenzy?

Unfortunatly the fact that we get our info from the movies is a problem as well. If these monsters are so vicious would ripley have survived. as for the superior organism thing.....Superior in what aspect? They might be superior over us in physical capabilities... but we might be better then them intellectually.

sad to say, the only real experience I have with martial arts is from SF, but I have picked up bits and pieces about various styles from everywhere.  Still, my girlfriend is from China and she knows more than I do (much more) since she is an avid fan of the Dragon Princess and other martial-arts novels/series.  She also had to practice Wu Shu as part of her physical education in school when she was younger.

On a related note, she loves SFII V because of its, in her opinion, remarkable similarity to the epic martial-arts novels/series of novels she used to read.  We watched half(!) the series last night and she's dying to see how it comes out.  Second, as you probably all know, Chun Li's outfit is *far* from accurate.  I asked her if Chinese acrobats ever wore anything like that and she asked me if I was serious. :p so, now you know. :)

soon as I can get her to overcome her insecurity about her English, she may join my campaign.  Right now, she just watches.  :)

Street Fighter Central is going to undergo massive re-construction shortly,
as soon as I finish learning JavaScript. Look for tons of new sections,
mostly on roleplaying the circuit, styles, and the genre of Street Fighter,
including a "How do I...?" section regarding adaptations of popular
characters to SF, and treatments of the backgrounds presented in the
series/films.

secondly, Contenders:TNG will be moving to the main SF site soon as well,
with a big-ass update to it.

thirdly, I have more 'tougher' throwaways in the spirit of the Nightmare
Guard, including elite commandos from Bison's private army and the Muay Thai
Assassins from SFIIV. Who wants 'em?

SlpStck-

Finding a capoeira school in the US is a bit tricky. I know that there's one
in Chicago, but your best bet is to look it up on the internet. Iknow that
there's a capoeira database out there.

Kirtan-

Youmay possess the mighty Tae Kwan Leep, but I have knowledge of the dreaded
PURPLE NURPLE of DOOM. Beware.

Steve-

Any sort of throwaway you are offering I will take, for I am getting closer
and closer to starting up New Legends Online for the summer. I am going to
be using ICQ again. In fact, i was trying to dowload itlast night, but I got
off the net after a thuderstorm to end all thunderstorms started up.

Subject: NPC: Muay Thai Assassins
Background:

Muay Thai is arguably one of the world's most dangerous and efficient
fighting styles. Given the number of people in Thailand who practice this
art, it was only natural that organized crime would begin hiring skilled
kickboxers as enforcers and muscle, especially since law enforcement bodies
(such as Interpol) made covert use of Street Fighters. The first assassins
were put into (very) effective use by the druglord Ashura, but since then
most of the so-called Golden Triangle has followed Ashura's lead and stocked
its ranks with these thugs.

Appearance:

Varies according to affiliation, but most of them wear black, hooded masks
and/or Thai boxing tights.

Suggestions for use:

Muay Thai Assassins make excellent "Eastern" muscle for tongs, triads, petty
drug lords, gangs, or whatever. They are easily the equivalent of rank one
or two Street Fighters, especially in 1:1 or 2:1 ratios. They don't go down
easily and their attacks are a good mix of power and speed. Plus, they make
good opposition for tournaments in a pinch. Just give 'em a name and add a
maneuver ot two.

Thai thugs come in three flavors: regular, enforcer, or killer. Regulars
are good for basic ass-kicking; enforcers are tougher and more skilled, able
to dish out more hurt. Killers are equivalent to regulars, although they
took a bigger beating in training and thusly are faster, tougher, and able
to last longer. They specialize in the quick kill.

Stats:

Hey steve. Like I said before. I have do disagree.
The predators are quite dexterious. The climb trees and walls extremely well.
And can naviget thru tree tops like a monkey almost.
And Im not reffering to there jumping ability which would be covered by Athletics.
But I beleive are answer would be a mix of 2 or 3. Sticking a being at 1 stat is rather static.

that's why I said 3.  that, in my opinion, is the upper limit.  can a Predator juggle effectively?  Dex 4 characters are very coordinated, to the extent of being a stage magician or performer.  I wouldn't argue with someone dropping a stat a level or two, because even humans have widely differing stats.  that's just on the average.

Hey again.

Uhu huh. No, your Right about ripley ...which was the exact point I was making. She was the hero.

Unfortunately.. I cant buy the hive mentality bit completely.
because there have been many occasions when the hive had nothing to do with the creatures reactions.
The  very first Alien movie was "Alien".
As in 1 creature.

And Isomewhat agree with you about the frenzy....I had my doubts about it hwhen I put it in.
and I still have doubts...but I hav to think about it.

It s interesting you should say that about Chun Li's Uniform.
I managed to get in contact with someone at Capcom and they told me that chun Li's
style is only kung Fu.
An interesting thing about Wu shu is that
Can you ask your girlfriend  If costumes like that actually exist or is that is an Wu shu
Costume. From what Ive seen Wu Shu Competitors only have two Uniforms.
A silk uniform. And a dark short sleved Uniform for a style called Nan Chuan.

The same sortof goes for Kabbadi. Actual Kabbadi is an Indian Game. Not a martial art. A rather interesting Game.

sad to say, the only real experience I have with martial arts is from SF, but I have picked up bits and pieces about various styles from everywhere. :) soon as I can get her to overcome her insecurity about her English, she may join my campaign.  Right now, she just watches.  :)

Thats a pretty interesting and brave Idea for a martial artist.
Remember I was talking to you about my story a while ago with the hockey players and such.
My story's turned into a Soap Opera.
one of my players is actually playing an armless Tae Kwan Leep stylist.

Enter Kirtan, the Tai Kwan Leap fighter in the traditional uniform of his
school. A simple white gi (spelling?) with the legs tucked into a pair of
well polished steel tipped combat boots. The absense of the student's
protective football helmet designates the title of Master to Kirtan. He
seats himself at the center of the arena and begins to meditate. His
opponent enters the ring, wielder of the dreaded Purple Nurple of Doom, but
before anyone can get a clear picture of what this opponent looks like,
Kirtan remembers one of the fundementals of Tai Kwan Leap -Get in the First
Shot.

BOOT TO THE HEAD (WHOOSH-THUMP)

His opponent screams in agony, "Oww you booted me in the head!"

Begin Round 2

(The Crowd cheers)
GO TAE KWON LEAP!!!!!!
GO PURPLE NURPLE!!!!!!
