Subject: Re: [streetfighter] Block vs. Athletics!
There not exactly the same thing. Game wise You can use maka wara as chi
kung. But chi kung would have its own section.

you have to realize that the term is supposed to be Maki Wara
and a maki wara is the wooden post with the rope tied around it.
Used for calisthetics

Chi Kung is a little more broad.

Chi kung would look something like this.

Chi Kung
--------
System: Whatever is written here

Punch:

Kick:

Block:
Maka wara
San He
Athletics:

Focus:
That attach weights to you thingy ability
Body toughning
Few others

Heh well you better get used to it. Im guessing you never played the monk
character from the originall Ad&d. on top of that he's back in
D&D 3rd edition. There also used to be a system for Ad&D called oriental
adventures(which I picked up lately). You want martial arts check that out.
Some of the Characters were Just damn nasty.
Plus dragin magazine let out rules for sumo wreslters, capoeriaista(or
battle dancers as the called them) and others.

Legend of the 5 rings is amazing! I have it but havnt played it yet.
I read the rules though. Its like a combination of a buch of diffrent
systems but It comes together So well its incredible. The nastiest thing is
the Iajutsu duels. The combat really can be one hit.

The Kung Fu in the book is more meant to represent wingchun in certain ways
only because the Fei long character is based upon Bruce Lee.
So what it might represent more is bruce lees Kung Fu.

Sengoku is a game. It uses the Fuzion system which is something of a merger
between they Cyberpunk and Champions system. It seems you either hate it or
love it. But I believe they have conversion rules in teh book too. But it
is definitely its own game.

Talk to a Judo stylist or Special Forces practitioner about a lack of
Focus Techniques being "weak". ;)

Combine some nice punch combos with a few Generic grabs and Brain
Crackers and you could have a pretty amazing style.

I do believe club stats are in the street fighter guide. As for Wing
Chun,
it would be a crappy street fighter style, no focus, the only real moves
they get are deflecting punch and Rekka Ken. I mean they get other
moves,
but they're all covered by basic moves. You're better off just using
Kung Fu.

she did a little bit of sword, but she never mentioned if they taught

on a related note, there's a local TV station that broadcasts several
blocks of various Asian networks at night, so you can watch
Japanese/Korean/Chinese TV. She, naturally, watches the Chinese news
every night. I saw a brief clip during one highlight of a large group
of (female) Chinese soldiers dressed in camouflage practicing Kung Fu in
a courtyard. It was quite interesting.

Erggghhh....Ahhh that weapon does to much damage for a Chinese
broadsword

Im guessing your wife did broadsword as her short weapon when she did
Wushu.
So her long weapon was probably Staff, right?

Yeah... ask Balrog for that matter!!!

Combos are a big part of any fighter's style; it's not
what you know but how you use it. Wing Chun stresses
the "Plant/trap/hit" theory, which translates nicely

it depends on which school of thought you belong to. You can either say
"if you don't have any dots in the Technique you can't use its Basic
Maneuvers." Or, you can say "If you don't have any dots in the
Technique, you can use the Basic Maneuvers, but they won't do as much
damage". Which is true. Strength (4, for example) + Kick (0 dots) +
Forward Kick Modifier (+2) = a whopping 6. Wow.

Now, there is nothing to stop a Boxer from spending XP to raise his
Kick. It's pointless, since Boxing has no Kick Special Maneuvers. But
if the person was saying you cannot even LEARN Kick as a Boxer, well,
that's just plain wrong.

If it's that important to you to have a Kick Technique, I'd recommend
going with a Western Kickboxer instead of a straight Boxer. They have a
lot of the same Punch maneuvers as a Boxer and a few extra Kicks and
Throws as well.

I agree with you but the GM want stop me in the character creation to
put 2
in my kick level, this strange but I got the idea about it at last I
think.:)

heh... I'll see if I can transcribe the recording later tonight, but
Jeff was using a voice that would be perfect for Balrog. He just kept
talking on and on like a big dumb boxer. Stuff like;

D'udder night I was up against George Foreman. He's big and hits on my
head mighty hard. Last night he hits me with a right hook. But not a
real right hook, but a big meathook or somethin. I saw monkeys again
and Moody Mouse. The referee comes up and sees that my eyes is rolled
back in mah haid and he sez "Lemmer, where is yo' eyes?" I says, "Leave
me alone, I'm tryin to focus on mah thoughts."

It's probably hard to find now, but if you can get a hold of Jeff
Altman's "I'll flip you like a cheese omelet" CD, do so. It's some
funny s#!t.

Hi. I was wondering if any of you have created characters from the
Alpha and 3 series to use. I was also wondering if you "updated" the
characters in the book (Such as Blanka with the later-released Animal
Hybrid rules). If so, I would be very interested in looking at some
of these, as I am trying to myself.

Hey everyone!

I'm offering a special buy on character sketches to those in the Street
Fighter mailing list!
$5 per sketch, only one per person, please. The sketches will be in black
and white, but are very high quality. The sketch must be of your street
fighter character, and I would prefer the one in the Ages tournament, so we
can make a web-page of our fighters.

If you want to see some examples of my black-and white work, go to:

Rinaldo has all the details. But yep, you can create a fighter and duke it
out. It's fun!

Well, apparnatly weapons arnt chosen by wushu partitioners.
Its based on body type and personality. It generally seems if you do
Broadsword you do staff, Straight sword you do spear, Southern broadsword --
southern staff.
That doesnt mean you wont learn the other weapons You see them enough
though.

Do you know what the telecast was about?

Right. The punching post. Ryu seems to be hitting a modified one in the SF

Well, considering my wife's study of Wu Shu was only as "phys ed" in
school, I don't think they went into too much detail on weapon
techniques. I do know the couple of times we got into a heated argument
I found myself on the receiving end of a pulled throat strike, though.
;)

I don't make her mad anymore.

Well, apparnatly weapons arnt chosen by wushu partitioners.
Its based on body type and personality. It generally seems if you do
Broadsword you do staff, Straight sword you do spear, Southern
broadsword --
southern staff.
That doesnt mean you wont learn the other weapons You see them enough
though.

Do you know what the telecast was about?

no clue. Nancy lets me fend for myself when it comes to TV, and my
vocabulary is too small to get anything but the occasional word.

Still, it was very Street-Fighterish. And on a related note, for you
Shanghai Noon lovers, she's promised to take me to the Forbidden City

True, if you're talking about a swing, but to any damage the swing
has
to cover a fairly wide arc (saber, as an example, often covers a 270
degree arc in it's swings), which takes time...

Now a thrust/stab motion is almost always faster than a swing
(shortest distance between two points and all that), and the thrust
will be slowed down by the weight of the weapon.

However, as it was mentioned before, the writers may have included
the
additional reach in with the speed, which is something I hadn't
considered since I use it in a different way...

That of course varies on the weight of the
sword and
> tai chi swords are very light.

Exactly how light are we talking here? I've never used one so I'm
shooting in the dark here, but I'd probably place it at a -1 or +0
speed (remember though, I don't factor in reach). If it's about the
same weight as a combat knife, I give it the same as I gave the
combat
knife (+0). Otherwise I scale it down to a minus one or two or
whatever I feel is apropriate.

nah, I've got that beat.

We were doing a one-shot with some of my old players and they needed a

Eventually they came up with "The Clandestine Throat-Slitting Fists."

Well, it does say on the storyteller's screen that the prereqs for
the
basic maneuvers are their technique at level 1. This is the same

with the main book. Besides, even if they have an athletics of one,
I
