Subject: Street fury alpha?
ok than, here is how i would keep play balance no one
can chalange anyone of higher rank than yourself
because higher rank fighters would never cheepen
themselvs by fighting a weaker fighter. if you are
higer rank and you wish to challange a lower rank
fighter the lower rank fighter probably would not
accept for fear of getting his butt kicked. And a
blemish put on his record.

Character creation.
Roll up a character like normal, concult the chart
below and pick your rank.
So here goes for exact exp.
Rank 6 250 exp and 13 total background points
Rank 7 300 exp and 15 total background's
Rank 8 350 exp and 17 total background's
Rank 9 400 exp and 19 total background's
And even though you cant start out at rank 10
Rank 10 500 exp and 25 total background's
(Some of the rank 10 fighters even surpass this.)

Krabi Krabong is a Thai Weapons Style developed
alongside (and taught in the same schools as) Muay
Thai. It emphasizes use of polearms, spears and other
long, bladed weapons.

For an example, watch Kickboxer staring Van Damme.
The training method his teacher uses towards the end,
in the ruins, is basic Krabi Krabong. (I think.)

Is Karate not the one that means 'empty hand' ?

I do know that a number of styles were designed around the fact that the
practicioner did not have access to weapons, or that access was severely
hampered.

However, this does not stop individual modern schools from teaching how to
use weapons. Some arts were even designed around having a weapon in your
hand.

(Offhand, I can't quite remember the name of one that is designed around a
blade tucked into your left palm.)

However, don't think that incorporating a weapon into another art is going
to substitute for being a weaponsmaster in your own right if up against
someone that only trains with the weapon. The results of that aren't pretty.
Men who religously followed Freddy Kruger and Jason Voorheese
(howeverthehellyouspellit) stopped watching slasher flicks and still have
recurring nightmares from watching some of the Corrections videos on what a
knife fighter can do to someone in a matter of seconds.

Internal strength is a type of strength that comes from thing like chi and
ki, and as far as the bully and lunch money thing if the kid is scared
enough and and its just one bully that bully might get killed (the scared
rat syndrome). Also as far as pain, is cocerned when was that last time dad
clean the house when he had his period, or made you dinner. When we as men
most of us even the ones that are "Super Human" and don't care to admit it
get sick or even bad headaches turn into mush, Women still function. Also
when was the last time dad took care of you when you were sick. Do you think
you could handle 19 plus hours of labor pain, I'd put money that you can't.
Most of us don't even like needles.

catch them right in the middle of a Cartwheel kick with a flying heel
stomp, and I don't think you'd hit them on the head. I also think that
they'd be sining soprano for the next couple rounds.

Auto-Dizzy! :)

Question: When you guys use the Cartwheel kick -- do you tone down the
move modifier at all (+2) as suggested on Howard Collins' page? (now
there's a name I haven't seen on the list in awhile)

I can see how that would be fun -- although in the game they are
annoyingly hard. Dan would also make a good Rank one annoyance ofr the
players, showing up to taunt them at every tournament only to get
himself pummeled. NPCs like like keep the players motivated. :)

Yeah you keep saying that....but even girls can learn sanbo. :)
Watch out for her flyin-ass technique.

Oddly enough, I'd put him up there close to the others. (Maybe 7 or 8)

I've found that if someone can't master the 'circle swing' of Zangief's
piledriver and can't stand fighting the controller for a dragon punch, Dan's
weak ass specials force a more basic game that can wind up putting a good
hurt on someone who relies too heavily on the special moves, and removes the
temptation to try for 'just one good Hadoken'... because there's no way to
get one.

(In other words, in his first appearance at the local arcade, Dan was one of
my strongest characters.)

Well first I don't even know if I would compete in it the fight/tournament if it were a fight it would just be a one shot thing. But even if I did no one if unbeatable especially if someone else is running the character. But what I said is I'd like to see it. I think it would be interesting watching everybody's charcters squaring off against each other. Besides it's just an idea I'd like to see happen.

But I use a hex map people known about it, in Gateway I use it to fights but in
Gateway I don´t have a fighter with Cartwheel Kick, and in this one I have a hex
map too, the only thing it´s that don´t have limit of space.

I never bothered toning down the Cartwheel Kick because it's pretty much

catch them right in the middle of a Cartwheel kick with a flying heel
stomp, and I don't think you'd hit them on the head. I also think that
they'd be sining soprano for the next couple rounds.

Auto-Dizzy! :)

Question: When you guys use the Cartwheel kick -- do you tone down the
move modifier at all (+2) as suggested on Howard Collins' page? (now
there's a name I haven't seen on the list in awhile)

quite. which is why I think I've made all of two NPCs in my campaign with
the Cartwheel kick. My players don't use it (except one who has a hardon
for it, but he's not very good anyway), and I know how to keep it from being
a problem, so I never developed a real dislike for it.

Holy GOD!!! You use those maneuvers in campaigns????? That is EXACTLY what
I was talking about with maneuvers being unbalancing, I would agree with
Joe, in that his maneuvers are pretty balanced (I like the table, never
really thought about doing that, I wonder if my maneuvers fit), but those
maneuvers are god of all creation cheap. . . . . . . . . .The point of
making maneuvers is to make up ones that would be good that the book left

This is actually kinda funny, I had a character who was a combat guru,
animal hybrid with the carwheel kick comboed right? I dropped him, and my
GM started using him as an NPC thug (the way he was going, it fits for the
character), anyways so Shadowloo started using my character (named Xian as
a note), so Xian was a real terror in the ring and he always fought with a
couple of cybernetic hybrids (a spider jujitsu stylist with all physical
stats at 7, and a beetle jujitsu stylist with strength and stam of 7, 20
health, breakfall, grappling defense, whol nine yards), anyways, my
character was escaping from a shadowloo experiment and they put this group
there to stop them, lucky we had chun li on our side. It was a brutal
fight, but we won (with a few lucky rolls from some repeating fireballs),
and I actually killed Xian, my own character, I was wondering if anyone
else has ever done that. . . . . .Killed there own character I mean, not
the WHOLE story . . . . .

Only with you have wits 7 (is a focus manuver) and you reach the guy with some
athletic work if you win the will contest the Cartwheel kick is stoped of course
I forget to say to build a combo using stunning shout you known, Stunning Shout
and a very good speed manuver after maybe Cannon Drill + Music Acompaniement
with Plague this works at a first moment :).

sure, Maka Wara is probably one of the best ways. Few fighters have Wits 7,

We are talking of maneuvers someone normal can actually have, even for a
cybernetic with mental stats as his primary, it would cost 36xp JUST to get
the wits up to 7, why would a character waste those points? if they're
human that's 76xp, I don't know about you, but I can think of a LOT of
better things to do with 76 points than to get one scary stat. Same reason
I don't like having people create high level players. It's like if you're
playing D&D, (forgive me, gotta use this one), and you start with 20th
level characters, you never built them up, you just wanted to play powerful
characters without taking the time and effort to level them up. Now my own
character is decent, but I made him from scratch, and I take pride in what
he can do, I don't think you can really say that about someone who starts
powerful.

I want make a tournament with powerfull characters this the reason but when you
put 7 in place you remove from another one don´t forget this, everyone have
weakness in some place. But you known something strange is more fun run a rank 1
tournament than a rank 9 tournament it´s strange but I think that way but now I
start something and I must finish it. :).

I completely agree with you, and although I disagree with your methods, I
can't help but respect the time and work you're putting into your tourney.
I think in a way it's good to play god likc characters from scratch, it
let's you appreciate your good old rank ones you know?

A gun but anybody have a weapon here... Exist many ways to stop cartwheel kick

I've been using the "Steve Wieck" version of Cartwheel Kick, and it's not that scary. With all the talk I'v heard about the original being unbalancing, I figured why bother with the original?

Sure, you could build an entire character around it and whup ass indiscriminately, but what would your Concept be? Guy who whups ass with Cartwheel Kick? Gee, sounds like a really challenging roleplaying experience...

Absolutely! I played a 25th-level D&D character once, and it sucked. When characters get that powerful, all the DM can do is try to kill them off in as nasty a manner as possible. That's no fun. A 1st-level character, on the other hand, could be killed by a kobold at the drop of a hat. That makes even the simplest adventures that much more thrilling.

I think if you're going to run a high-level story, the GM should build all the characters, or at least work with the players to ensure that the playing field is balanced and fair, and that nobody number-crunches too much.

No. La Boxe Francais IS Savate. Besides, Krabi Krabong is from Thailand or
Malaysia. Possibly Vietnam, but thereabouts, geographically speaking.

Yeah, and my ears are still ringing from that Stunning shout
:) ... However, if people are really that unhappy about Cartwheel kick (I
won the match! Yay!), I'm willing to design another fighter not using
Cartwheel kick. So, what do you say, Rinaldo? Should I design another

one thing that amazes me about my players is that they are so quick to point
to their rank like it was some kind of Level in AD&D or something instead of
taking their actual abilities into account. They panic when their Rank 2s
get jumped by a squad of ten Shock Troopers and forget that they've already
earned enough XP to put them at Rank 5 if they'd done nothing but compete...

In a way it is a level, it is the measuring stick street fighters use to
measure each other for commonality. A rank six should be evenly matched
with another rank six, and so on. I agree with you on what you said about
rank, we have some npc's who just don't fight in tourneys because people
refuse to fight them, so they're rank ones who could take a rank six or
seven. My own character is still technically a rank 6 (I think, whatever
21-6 is), but he hasn't had a match in so long, all he does is run around,
train, and get in the way of shadowloo (both accidently and on purpose),
when he goes back to tourney fighting, he's probably gonna go straight for
world warriors (First thing is a rematch with Dee Jay). That having been
said, it's still a matter of starting with experienced characters, it
basically ruins the game. My own character is right now trying to master
his style, it just wouldn't have been the same had I just been handed the
points (also I probably would have wound up with different maneuvers,
priorities change during game play). .. . . . . .

Heh. I dunno, I just shake my head and sigh when one of my players gives me
The Look. You all know The Look. That look that, upon your announcement
that four more Shock Troopers brought up the rear to cut them off, signifies
that your players think your favorite hobby is tossing them into deathtraps
and watching them die. That "How could you do this to us?!" look that
signifies incredulity at your lack of foresight into their capabilities.

Forgive me for assuming that, since your Fierce Punch does 13 dice of damage
and you have five Stamina, that you could take on four thugs at once. With
two Stamina each.

Never mind the fact that twenty minutes later, the players are still
standing and the Shock Troopers have been bent in half.

Perhaps I should be flattered that I've achieved that modicum of controlled
panic that so many Gamemasters strive for; that tension that really puts the
fear of God into a player who truly believes he's fighting for his life...
and yet emerges victorious through clear thinking and good die-rolling.

Then again, maybe they're still paranoid over that time they nearly got
slaughtered by Battle Droids because they couldn't punch the broad side of a
barn that day.
